This impressive sideboard of large proportions has a large mirror upstand with ornate carved showframe over a base of inverted breakfront form with frieze drawers supported by twin pedestals with ornately carved fielded panel doors united by undertier and raised on plinth base. This stunning sideboard/dresser/buffet travelled from England to America with my parents when they moved here in the 1970's. And took pride of place in their home for the remainder of their lives. It is now time to liquidate their assets, and pass on the pleasure of ownership of such a beautiful and versatile piece to someone who appreciates the beauty, history and craftsmanship of high quality furniture. It is made of mahogany, with beautifully carved embellishments and a gorgeous, flawless large focal mirror. The bottom section has six dove-tailed drawers, and the top section consists of a large focal mirror flanked on each side by two small shelves. Above the main mirror is another shelf, ab ove which is a smaller mirror. Both mirrors have bevelled edges. Here for auction we have a good Victorian mahogany sideboard of inverted breakfront form dating to the latter part of the 19th century. This well proportioned sideboard has a moulded edge top over a single frieze drawer and recessed cupboard flanked by further fielded panel cupboard doors and is raised on a plinth base. For auction here is a lovely example of a 19th century antique walnut buffet sideboard used in dining rooms and large kitchens for storing and displaying your china. As you can see it has a lovely patination. Quality fielded and carved panels along with nicely balustraded shelves, the drawers are fully oak lined. The top of the sideboard has opened up a little( see photo) due to shrinkage commensurate with a piece of furniture of this age but does not affect its function. It has small cabinets behind the ornately carved dragon doors in the hutch section as well as display shelves, and has drawers across the top with more open cabinet space below in the base section, which is where you see the traditionally older construction front to back planking across the bottom.
