There are areas of missing and damaged veneer on the base. The drawer pulls are not original. And the drawer locks have been removed. One of the pads(back left) the base rests on is missing. The spindle detail on the left side of the base under the marble is missing. There is some silver loss to the mirrors. The marble has some staining and a few scratches that don't detract from the piece. The dimensions are 46" wide x 21" deep x 74" tall overall and 39" tall to the top of the marble. The four front columns are twist rope carved, carved pinched drape collared, with carved scroll capitols, the front legs carved to match. The uprights between the drawers with relief carved stiff acanthus leaves. The drawers and doors have recessed panels, the drawers with the original mahogany knobs. Behind the doored compartments are three original shelves. Pine case, solid mahogany sides with recessed panel. One drawer is velver lined for flatware. The drawer interiors are maple, the bottoms chamfered. The doors below are veneer fronted, and open to a divided compartment with one stationary shelf( shelf to left side missing. The top is one solid mahogany board, a horizontal crack long its middle. A very fine solid stripped mahogany antique. Circa 1890's, Louis XVI style server. The front legs are carved with a top scroll rosette and acanthus leaves, and with paw feet. The platform base is shelf as well as stretcher. Two curved front drawers with flame mahogany veneers, the case sides also flame mahogany veneers. The top boards are solid stripped mahogany. The drawer interiors are yellow stained mahogany boards. Server measures 4'10" 58-1/2" wide by 36" tall by 2'1" 25-1/2" deep. Excellent condition: original finish, no cracks to solid mahogany, crazing to the veneers on the case sides. Minor chip to top edge board on side. Some scratches on top boards, as expected.

Here is an unusual and rare piece of Berkey and Gay of Grand Rapids. Michigan, Gothic Revival furniture. Based on the paper tag, it was made in 1899, however, it is not like most of the furniture that this high end American cabinetmaker or furniture company was building at the time. This is a step above.gorgeous and long at 6 1/2 feet figured mahogany sideboard or server with the original beveled mirror, original finish, original hardware, all of the carvings are in excellent condition. The carvings are everywhere.the dolphins and fruit at the base of the mirror, the four roaring lion heads, the half round columns with tons of detail and the carved paneled doors with the face of Bacchus who is surrounded by detailed grapes, baskets of fruit and ribbons with more dolphins towards the bottom of the carvings. Baltimore, c.1820 This sideboard form. For its time, was fairly novel, appearing in the October 1822 issue of Ackerman’s Repository. The pyramidal doors open without suggestion of their being doors, and the drawers above are architecturally developed within the cornice molding. The depressed marble mixing surface is also fairly novel, below which is a pull-out serving slide and drawer. The backsplash is developed with a mirror flanked by carved cornucopia. The quality of which is truly exceptional(see detail) this also can be seen in a sideboard heavier in feeling at Winterthur and another related ... moresideboard is in our collection( Still another of this form can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago. Without the carved, mirrored backsplash. Also, a variant without the middle pull-out slide and a boxy two-drawer middle section is shown on the attached scan.
