Projecting over the front and sides with tight turrets at the corners over spiral-turned columns- these complex formations transition from a series of tight ring turnings into the spiral balusters over tiny urns and completed with a series of complex ring turnings over cork feet. The columns define the chest, greatly elevating the form with tasteful embellishment that does not distract from the overall composition. The graduated two over three drawers retain their original rosewood knobs, these flanking the inverted tear-drop escutcheons and framed as a whole in the rectangular stringer inlays. Dovetail construction dominates the chest. Through dovetails securing the sides of the case to the bottom and presumably to the interior framing upon which the top is set(unable to verify without removing the top) The back board is deeply chamfered to slide into rabbets in the sides and is secured with glued blocks inside the case and tacks along the lower edge. Here is an exquisite. Massive, Antique 19th cent. American(probably Horner) quarter sawn oak sideboard buffet server. Straight out of a Long Island estate. Was in the same family for 70 years. This piece was made around 1880 and represents carved oak at its best. Incredibly carved with lions' heads. Paws, ribbons, and scrolls. Doors are all carved scrolls with center cartouche. They are separated by 2 columns of carved ribbons and fruit. The drawers above have handles of lions' faces. The top is crowned with an incredible lion head. The only condition issues are a small ring stain and a darker area on the top front right. Also a thin slit in the wood appx 18 inch long. These are very minor and can easily be fixed. Antique Sideboard- American Sheraton style
You are bidding on a Circa 1860( this was from an appraisal we had done in 1983 available on request) American style sideboard. As you can see from the pictures it has in-layed woods with beautiful detail. Over all its in fair condition. There are scratches. Some areas where the inlay has come unglued or chipped, a few of the legs have been broking during moves and have been repaired and braced. Some of the lock hardware will need to be replace. Drawers are in good shape and felt lined for silverware. All hinges are good and there is a key for most of the locks. Dimensions: Appox 38 inches high. 63 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Beautiful American Antique New York 1800s R J Horner Carved Oak Sideboard Base
Here is an absolutely fabulous 19th century RJ HORNER New York USA made sideboard buffet base. You can see three small holes on top at the back where a mirrored top was probably attached. I bought this as a base only and had it refinished over 30 years ago-it was a dark mess and the wood grain wasn't visible otherwise I would have left it original. I wanted to see the glorious oak grain and everyone that has seen it over the decades has mentioned what an awesome piece it is. The carving is magnificent-hairy feet. Faces, shells, florals-fantastic quality. The drawers in the center are still there and usable, though could probably use some TLC to get them back to their best-there is a small chip in a corner and chain that holds it open needs some work. There are a couple of minor scuffs-one on top and one on lower side-captured in photos, ... moreand a couple of scratches on the top-tried to photograph. The bottom drawer sticks out-since last move 25 years ago. The nose of a center face has been flattened somewhat-again-with last move. One handle on left drawer is not rounded-may have had a piece off-has been that way since I bought it over 30 years ago. There is some minor denting around key locks-no key available. There may be another flaw,but I don't see them-but again this beauty is way over 100 years old. The back is fully intact-solid. Weighs a ton-built to last forever. It is a wonderful scaled-down example after the originals of a century prior. Throughout the surface, a warm mellowing and patina have developed quite nicely, the result being an overall presentation that is quite above reproach. It is angular with outstanding lines, these accentuated by the fruitwood stringer inlay in each panel and door, bellflowers inlaid above the front two tapered legs. The drawer retains it's first pair of brass knobs, the sides hand dovetailed and the bottom ... moresliding into the sides in routed grooves on either side. It has a wealth of cabinet space, the middle cabinet divided with a single shelf in the interior. This is a Beautiful Form Antique American Empire Circa 1830- 1840 Dining Room Server in Striking Flame Mahogany Veneer. The piece has wonderful curved top drawers with hardware. There is no key present, I believe the knobs are original. The doors swing out to reveal a large interior. There has been a small repair to the back left top as shown, a triangular repair to the corner. There is a modern door latch as shown. The server measures 44 1/2" tall, 43 1/8" wide and 20 1/4" deep at the top. The feet make the server measure 23 1/3" deep at the bottom. Antique American Made Empire Walnut Sideboard Buffet Server. 1830's-1840's.
The sideboard is from the Early Empire period. And was hand made. The primary wood is walnut, with secondary wood of southern pine. It is from the 1830's- 1840's, and was made in the South. It came from the estate of the Hendrix family in Bowman, Georgia. The top, legs and balusters are beautifully carved of solid walnut. The joints are intricately dove-tailed together by hand. The drawers and doors are walnut veneers over pine. It measures 44"50" in height, 60" in length, and 21"23" in depth. With its classic design and beautiful luster, the sideboard or server would be outstanding in traditional or modern settings. Shipping can be arranged. With seller paying packing and insurance.
