I believe the case is bronze as its very heavy for it size. It stands 14" tall to the top of the finial and is 7 1/4" wide at the widest point and is 4" deep. The first few picture depict more of it ... morereal color as the camera flash is making the others look lighter. It has a porcelain hand painted ball at the top and same with the plate at the front. The front of the porcelain dial has a beveled glass and it screws into the case. I cannot find any flaws on the case. The works are not original. It now has Davall made in England key wind 8 day works. It runs great but needs adjusting as it is 20 minutes slow over a 24 hour period. Great addition to a collection. Happy Bidding. This elegant style has been reproduced by the repro artists due to its exceptional traditional flair.but this one is old. First of all the color. The picture of the whole mirror came up more vanilla. Due to the flash. This was a tough one to photo. The true color of the background is a more neutral, old aged soft antique white. The front pictures of the mirror showing the gilt carving, are the true colors. The mirror came fresh from an estate in Manhatten and is even a bit dusty.right off the wall on the east side. The mirror is 59 3/8 inches high. And 38 1/2 inches wide and the depth is approximately 2 1/2 inches thick. The frame is good and solid, the mirror ... moredoes not wobble and is structurally sound. The oil painting is lovely and it could use a good cleaning and it would sparkle, however; I leave just as is for the purists, and leave it up to them. To each their own. The gilt on the carved filagree and scrolls are in excellent condition, intact, with no repairs. Like I say.from an estate and was kept for many years. The age of the mirror is somewhere between 1820 and 1860. This of course, is my best guess upon examing the mirror and knowing where it came from. If you are an antique lover of French, you will come up with the same conclusion, just by seeing the back pictures. Infact, they come up lighter than they are, due to the bright sunlight in my room. Frthim6 Antique Silver Vain Beauty Thimble w/ Waffle Knurling French* Circa 1900s This hard to find silver thimble is known as'Le Miroir' The Mirror) or'Vain Beauty' Two young women stare into a mirror in the central medallion and daisies decorate the the sides. It has"waffle" style knurling and the design flows up into the knurling. It is stamped with the French boars head hallmark that was used for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris. It also has a diamond maker's mark but I can't read it. There is a small hole low in the band where the boar's head is stamped. I believe it is from a too hard stamp and not needle damage. Rare antique french 18th century violin made circa 1780. Rare and beautiful antique french 18th century violin made circa 1780. This instrument is a summit of french elegance. Made after a Stainer pattern as often at the time, the body remembering the works of Claude-François Vuillaume(Vuillaume père" but with a better varnish, usual for the colour(brown on a golden ground) at the time, but with a rich oil craqueled texture remembering the slightly later works of Falaise and Charotte. The top is made of two parts of spruce and shows fine narrow grain widening to the edges. The back is made of two parts of faintly flamed maple. The ribs are of the same wood. The head, a pure and aristocratic expression of a talented maker, has been beautifully grafted on a modern neck. The violin is in a good restored condition. With different ... morerepairs on the top and a few worm works on ribs and edges. The instrument has been set with a Despiau bridge, a rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, the matching endpin and Thomastik Dominant strings. The rosewood pegs are older(probably 19th century) but fit perfectly. The sound of the instrument is superb. A mature, warm golden sound with deep baroque accents, a real french 18th century wonder! The Laberte workshop produced beautiful instruments. Especially when they were made in copy as for this beautiful violin, made after Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. The front is made of two parts of spruce and shows straight and narrow grain widening towards the edges. The back is made of two pieces of strongly flamed maple, the curl very slightly descending from the center joint. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The varnish is a pure beauty, an exquisite oil varnish of an orange colour on a golden ground. The violin is in a mint condition. Without any crack. The varnish is wonderfully preserved and 100% original. A rare antique french master violin made by Etienne Perrin circa 1830. A beauty! Beautiful and rare antique french master violin made by Etienne Perrin in Mirecourt circa 1830. The violin is extremely well made. With a top made of two parts of spruce of regular grain, and a fantastic back made of one piece of maple, finely flamed with dancing horizontal curl. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The head is a pure beauty, with an aristocratic french elegance inherited from french 18th century parisian school. The varnish, of a delicate orange-brown colour on a golden ground, is a pleasure to the eyes and entirely original. The purfling has a lot of character, with its distinctive bee-stings running far along the corners. The condition of the instrument is excellent. To the exception of a repair at lower right part of the top. The ... morerarest is that almost everything is original in the instrument: the button of the neck has not been broken as often with these early instruments, and the back kept its two original wooden nails on top and bottom. The neck and head are of course original also, and even the slightly shorter fingerboard, which has been elevated a very long time ago with a maple saddle, is thin and original(but still playable) The rarest is certainly the original ivory nut at the top of the fingerboard. There is also a story about the violin: the precedent owner was an old french lady. Who said that she had it from a long time in her family, and that the violin belonged to her grand-grandfather who died during the first World War. And the treasure is hidden on the back near the corners if you pay enough attention: the man has very faintly written near the corners the names of the women he loved before dying!
