The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. Raised picture frame molding is featured on each side of the base with wide recessed carvings on each side of the bookcase top which has a slight Gothic influence. Additional wide recessed carving is present on the slant front portion of the desk with the original pull out support slides intact. This secretary breaks down into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. Measurements: 84 in. 7 ft. in total height total width of 43 in. depth at the base of 21 in. depth at the bookcase top portion is 14 3/4 in. weighs approximately 160 lbs total. All the locks are intact on this piece but we do not have the key. This fine 19th century piece has it's original old plank boards intact on the back. The fold down writing surface has an older repair near the hinge areas on each side. Howard Frankland 1800s American Country Chippendale Cherry Slant Front Desk

Florida. This is originally from the est ate of Howard Frankland- Tampa Businessman who proposed the bridge named after him between Tampa and St. Petersburg. If it is needed I can find the original buyer of the estate years ago but doubt I can find the relative who sold the house contents out. Size of this desk is as follows: Height 44 1/2 inches Depth 17 inches. Base is 41 inches by 17 inches. Top of desk is 7 inches. Top of desk has a light spot from water from a flower vase staining the wood light. Drawer sizes are staggered: 1st drawer is 4 1/2 inches height. 2nd drawer is 5 1/2 inches height. 3rd drawer 6 1/4 inches height. 4th drawer 7 1/4 inches ... moreheight, I did not measure the drop down lid or the cubby holes or the little drawers. measurements are pretty close with a ruler. I have been to a furniture refinisher who has dealt in early furniture for 50 years and the desk is cherry with poplar secondary wood. Meaning the drawer sides and bottoms of the drawers. The bottom of the desk or base board underneath with the dovetails extended through is pine. The brasses are later and one is missing on the bottom drawer. The period is 1840-60s. The photos were taken on a cloudy day with a flash and some look dark but it is a reddish color. There are a lot of square nails in the back some appear square some are round. The bottom underneath has square nails. Almost everything is dovetailed but the back boards. The foot is called a bracket foot. There is a crack in the top right side of the slant front. The desk was originally used by another business man also. The next owner was a business man also and the last user was a nice teenage daughter and has powder and dust in the cubby holes from makeup and play toys stored in all the neat drawers and the dresser drawers as well. We picked this beautiful peice up at an estate sale. The previous owners didn't know much about its origins. But thought it to be an italian peice from the late 18th-early 19th century. The desk was appraised at $2500+ by an antique specialist, but are letting it go for less as we have been unable to confirm its origins. It is definitely hand-carved, and is an amazing exhibit of craftsmanship. Has three serpentine. Dovetailed, drawers with intricate handcarvings on the front(3 3/4" deep) and a lock in each drawer. Pine secondary wood and original stamped brass hardware Dimensions: 38 7/8" long x 21 3/8" wide x 44" high. Turreted corners typical of Sheraton pieces from this period and region with original oval pulls and a slant lid form more commonly seen on earlier desks mark this as an early transitional period piece. Exquisite antique continental slant or fall front desk. Made with intricate inlaid marquetry featuring striking burl fruitwoods. This small decorative piece was likely intended as a ladies' writing desk. The fall front opens to reveal a writing surface as well as two cubbies, two drawers and a tiny cabinet with door. There are two drawers below the writing surface, each with consecutive concave sections, scrollwork inlay and ornate meta pulls. The bottom portion features a carved skirt and graceful cabriole legs ending in trifid feet. Overall the desk is in good antique condition. With some wear and minor crackling to the surfaces. The key surround at the top of the piece is coming loose and there is a small break behind the front left leg, which is not visible without lying under the desk and does ... morenot seem to affect the sturdiness of this piece. Great 19Th Century Formal Mahogany Hepplewhite Slant Lid Lap Desk. Hidden Draws
For sale is a great late 19th century formal mahogany Hepplewhite slant lid lap desk. The lap desk is an overall good condition with some areas of repair as noted in the pictures. This lap desk has several areas of hidden compartments and we've taken pictures of those areas before your consideration. The grain of the mahogany is a very nice with lots of green shelling in a medium brown wooden tone. There are two holding handles on each side of this piece. We are unsure if they are original to this lap desk. The escutcheons looked to be all original with original natural material. The draws all contain original dovetail joinery with what looks like poplar or pine as a secondary wood. There are a few original pieces left in this lap desk including some old glass inkwells a quilt pen and a small holding box. They will be included in the ... moresale but will be packed separately. They are not in the best condition so we are mainly selling it just this lap desk. The left portion of the top lid was at one point glued and repaired back together. There was also repair on the bottom right corner of this lap desk. Please see the detailed pictures of these areas. This lap desk is the very sturdy and an overall good condition. With bracket base and solid bat wing brass hardware, bench made during late 19th century. This desk was made by a master craftsman from early boards and solid tiger maple boards, to look exactly like an original period American Chippendale desk from 1775. Measures 36 inches wide by 41 inches high and 18 inches deep. There are four graduated bottom drawers and a full interior with three secret compartments. The drawer sides are hand dovetailed, made from solid American chestnut. Excellent condition with a deep rich old patina. This is tiger maple at its best, in a desk of rare size and desirable form. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. We have a wonderful antique, Victorian era slant top lap ... moredesk which is on a stand. Inside of the desk is a panel that conceals two secret drawers for security while travelling. You never know when your stagecoach is going to be set upon by brigands or highwaymen! The wooden box, we think it is walnut, features brass hardware, as you can see in the photos, the lock, the inset on the cover, and straps around the corners, etc. The box measures approx. 13 ⅝" by 8 ¾" by 5 ¾" standing approx. 19 ¼" tall with the stand. When you open the desk. You can see the desk top panels are covered in a textured black paper with gold gilt trim. The finish of the wood has a wonderful glow to it, along with signs of age and use, such as surface scratches and little nicks, as well as mystery stains. We found an old hand written name on one of the wood pieces- T W Cox. We took photos of it, so that you can see for yourself. We believe that the stand is a later addition to the piece; the wood is not quite a match. This is an amazing Slant top secretary writing desk in great condition! It is antique white painted over genuine mahogany and gold painted edges for added detail! This Chippendale secretary desk has such details and charm as well as quality made! The overall paint color is a creamy white and in some areas you see the mahogany showing thru. There is some very minor paint loss at the bottom and some around the edges but in think it adds additional character and charm to this piece! The hardware is an antique look and dark brown almost black in color. The drawers are dovetailed at the edges which is a stronger way to connect the ends together! The drawers slide out on the tracks very smoothly. It is a slant top and has supports once you open the top. Has turned legs with a slant front desk top that lifts up and a secretary style top with doors that open and cubbies inside. Not sure of history of this piece. We obtained it from an estate sale in Johnston County, North Carolina. One of the most interesting thing about this desk is that in the upper corner of the right door there is a piece of paper taped inside that lists the presidents of the United States and has 24 of them with Woodrow Wilson being the last one and the date listed is 1893. This piece looks like perhaps the top may have been added later, not sure, and also where the slant top is looks like it was altered at one time as well. An amazing piece, all pegged. Cherry & Mahogany Chippendale-style Slant Front Desk
Chippendale-style desk. Deep. Rich patina. Cherry front has turned a deeper brown due to age and oxidization. Appears to be mahogany on the sides. Four graduated drawers; interior has secret compartment. Hand dovetailed and planed. Ball& Claw feet likely replaced. We repaired the front piece of both support rails using an antique restorer. The piece was purchased at an Eastern Shore auction many years ago. It has been in a non-smoking home with other fine antiques. Although I have specified that this is for local pick-up. AT THE VERY TOP OF THE DESK THERE IS A BRASS RAIL WITH IT'S ORIGINAL PATINA. ON THE TOP SHELF OF THE DESK THERE IS LIGHT WEAR INCLUDING SOME CUP RINGS. AND A FEW VERY OLD PAINT SPECKLES. THERE ARE ALSO PAINT SPECKLES ON THE SIDE OF THE DESK. THE SLANT FRONT IS A WORK OF ART. THERE IS SILVER. BRASS, COPPER AND MOTHER OF PEARL INLAY. THE TOP LEFT AND RIGHT CORNERS ARE INLAID WITH A FIGURE, AND THE BOTTOM CORNERS ARE INLAID WITH SUNFLOWERS. AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SLANT FRONT DESK. PENNSYLVANIA Probably Chester County. Signed illegibly four times and dated 1807 Item# 411IQL13P This fine example of Eastern Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Almost certainly originating in Chester County, has a distinct air of ingenuity about it. A departure from the typical corinthian fluted corner columns seen on these cases, the desk employs a quartered column with three graduated divisions of double-ringing in completion of the drawer blades they flank. This effective treatment softens the facade and introduces a certain magnetic rural character to the form. The interior is exceptional. The deep writing surface edged by a scalloped molding conforming with the serpentine of the ten blocked front drawers beneath ten pigeon holes. Instead of employing a prospect door, the center of the interior ... moreis a complicated little box that is easily drawn from the center- over the pigeon holes in this box, the valance actually is a tiny hidden drawer. By removing the entire dovetailed box from the interior, a previously hidden document drawer becomes visible. On the front it is signed illegibly"J. Sh.f.p Rat. 1807" the same signature seen also on the two hidden document drawers that flank this drawer and the two hidden document drawers that flank these as well- to bring out the deepest document drawers, a long string is attached and can be tugged to bring these unseen pieces forward. The front of the desk is composed of a pair of lopers. The fronts of which are set on tiny dovetails and sunk into the blades, and four graduated drawers retaining their original locks and untouched structure with replaced brasses. The top and bottom of the case are openly dovetailed, the back of the case with untouched half-lapped planks retaining their original rosehead and cut nails and a nearly black level of oxidization throughout. BEAUTIFUL EARLY 19TH CENTURY CHERRY WOOD DESK A wonderful early nineteenth Century cherry wood. French foot slant, front desk in original condition including the finish glue blocks support and bracket, just the way a purist would want to find it. This gorgeous piece came out of a Massachusetts Estate. The desk has nice patinated hardware. But not of the period. This desk has very elegant shaped feet and of full height giving the desk a very pleasing look. Hard to find a better one in the market dating from this 1805 period. This desk is untouched. So there are stress fractures all shown in the photos. This French foot chest is also very practical for daily use being 43 1/4" high and 40" wide by 20" deep. Primitive slant-topped schoolmasters desk This marvelously proportioned. Primitive slant-topped schoolmasters desk, probably dating from the mid-1800s, was purchased at an antique shop in Birmingham, Ala. in the early 1970's and later brought to St. Louis, Mo. The construction is all pine. Height: 39 1/2" Width: 36" Depth: 30 3'4" Hinged. Slant top has slight overhang on the front to provide finger grip. Desk displays a marvelous dovetailed construction on all sides, and the Hepplewhite style legs are carefully pegged, so there is no space between the different pieces of wood. The interior offers a small, centered drawer and three"cubby holes" above the drawer. Metal lock on front is probably original. Lock does not have a key. This piece of furniture is a tribute to the workmanship and sense of proportion ... moreof the joiner who crafted it. The legs are not too fat or too thin. too long or too short. Their elegant taper serves to elevate the body of the piece. The skirt boards contribute to the pleasing mass of the desk itself. A mass emphasized by the well-proportioned legs. It sits solidly on the floor, projecting dignity and character. It symbolizes a more balanced and simpler time in the history of our country, as do so many primitive pieces of furniture. The hinge on the left side on the lift-top is loose. So closing the lid into the locking mechanism must be carefully done. There is a replacement piece of wood on the lid where that hinge is secured. On the right hinge, another piece of wood was cut out where the hinge is screwed into the desk. It was replaced and the hinge was screwed into that. Wear on the piece is typical of the age of the desk. The legs are sturdy and straight. For local pickup only.

We are selling a lovely antique secretary drop front desk with an inlaid design on the front. As you can see the inlay pattern is quite nice and incorporates mother of pearl. The desk stands approximately 40" high by 28" wide by 15.5" deep. While the desk is a little rough around the edges- it could use a thorough cleaning and does have a number of scuffs and dings. As well as some loss to the back panel and the lower right edge of the front- it has a nice shape and patina with a little TLC will have a lot of use left to offer.
