The following is a modified version of the appraisal. Modified only to read clearly to an audience: American golden oak cylinder front desk. Circa 1890. Also, it appears to be quarter sawn oak, also referred to as tiger oak. Those are the lines in the wood that run across the grain. This is usually an indicator of a quality piece and is a desirable feature. It is unusual that it has the tilt writing surface which is adjustable for drawing. Drafting, or perhaps other purposes. Also very unusual to have the hidden compartments on each side of it. 1890'S Double Sided Lady's Decorative Writing Desk Hand Carved Quarter Sawn Oak
Congratulations! You are bidding on a gorgeous 1890's Double Sided False Front Victorian Lady's Decorative Writing Desk with chair. The Desk is solid quarter sawn Oak with hand carved columns on the corners and leg opening. Hand carved"rope" decorative edge on the top and highly carved decorative legs with wooden ball and claw feet. The desk has all the original pulls. The contruction is of solid oak, dove-tailed corners on all the drawers. One of the drawers has had the bottom replaced with slats of wood(see pics) otherwise each drawer bottom is constructed of one piece of wood. Also, there is a split in the wood of the top of the desk. The split is approximately 1mm in width(very small) and I could not get it to show up on pictures accurately. The desk has been lovingly restored using an oak stain and a polyeurothane sating ... morefinish so that it will be hardy enough to stand up to daily use. As mentioned above the desk is double sided with a false front that draws attention to the unique hand-carved details of this beautiful piece. This is a smaller victorian desk that would make a great statement in any home. The chair has not been restored and has the original dark finish on it. Massive Antique Quarter-Sawn Oak Roll Top Desk Owned by Canadian Mounties
Massive antique oak roll top desk made by Horrocks— practically a ship. 71.5" wide. 35" almost 35.5" deep, with 30.5" of desk surface, and 43" high at the tallest point. This desk spent most of its life in an office of the Canadian Mounties. A traveling U.S. citizen fell in love with it and talked the Mounties into selling it to him; he moved it to Colorado, where he discovered it was too big to fit into his study/office, and so it went into storage for 40 years. It came to Santa Cruz, CA, in 1970; my father, who loves all things massive and well-made, bought it and it has been in my family's home since then. It needs a new home. A big one. With a big door. The smaller things: this desk has three deep drawers to the left of the chair space and two to the right(one is sized as a file cabinet) And a large flat drawer ... morewith a key(we have the key) It has many small drawers at the back of the desk space. There are two very cool corner drawers(on the inside of the inner arch, and they open up to a curved trough, which is perfect for pens and pencils. There is a mystery drawer with no known key. There are two pull-out writing tables. One drawer has a chip taken out of the wood, and we have the piece(as shown) One leg(to the left of the chair space) needs some refinishing. The desk is in very good general condition, and could use a good waxing. The hardware is brass. The roll top can stick but it works. And we have the key for it, too. Finally, the number"1821" is stamped on the underside of the desk. This is a splendid and dramatic desk. It is also comfortable to use. Its size makes it easier to accommodate modern office equipment than most antiques.

1800s Angus of London Roll Top Desk Quarter Sawn Oak
This a beautiful desk. All the drawers are great and the roll top slides real nice built by Angus London a well built company in the 1800. I have the key and it is on its original wheels. There is a 2 drawers that were used for pens and pencils and felt or sanding it down should do the trick. This is certainly the absolute best quartered quarter sawn oak desk I have ever offered for sale in my near 40 years in the antiques business. I would call this American desk Arts and Crafts style or possibly Aesthetic Revival. Dating from circa 1895 it is of the very highest quality. Some description but please look at the photos to have a better feel for this piece. The stepped rounded corner top over one foliate frieze drawer. Flanked by double pedestals, one with a paneled cupboard door and one with three drawers, the other side of like configuration, to paw feet, with very unusual applied tapered columns at the sides. This desk has the original unusual solid brass hardware and is all hand carved, not machine. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth authentic finish. Antique White Oak Library Table Writing Desk Golden Oak Quarter-Sawn Quarter-Cut
LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY* Up for sale is this beautiful old library table or writing desk made out of quarter-sawn. Or quarter-cut white oak. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained, the wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures about 26 inches wide, 42 inches long, and stands about 30 inches tall. There is a drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. There is a burn mark along the edge as shown in the 5th photo, but otherwise the table is in good condition for its age. The inside of the drawer seems to have been replaced with some plywood at some point in time. The drawer doesn't slide smoothly, but may be an easy fix. Roll top dest in Oak S curve roll quarter sawn
Here we have a really nice Oak Roll top desk. This one has the solt after style the S Roll, which is in good condition and rolls well. As you can see in the many pictures it has six draws and a middle one, it also has a lock but we do not have the key so we have duck tape around the lock, you can get them thru Van Dykes in the Dakota's but my hubby does not want to change it so it is up to you. The desk has been refinished before we got it. We have always wanted one and now down sized and don't have room.
