Unusual and Lovely Victorian Partners Mahogany Carved Desk A superior desk in every respect with the classic 9 drawer configuration and original turned bun handles. The reverse has 9 dummy drawers which make the desk appear identical from both sides and it is perfect for sitting centrally in a room with the back on display. The desk has a number of very fine quality ... moredetails including hand carved panels at each flank and either side of the kneehole. The upper panels with etched back and crossed oak leaves on twisted branches and the lower panels of trailed ivy wrapped with ribbon. The upper drawers and side panels are dressed with thickly cut and beautifully flamed mahogany. The overhung rounded top is inset with an olive green leather in very good condition with gold tooled and embossed edge detail and gold leaves to each corner. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have good strong interiors with dovetailed joints. The escutcheons are original throughout. The desk dismantles into three sections- two pedestals and top and has an unusual mechanism whereby the top slots down into the pedestals and wraps around the front- so that it looks very much as though it is made in one piece when all together. Condition: there are minor dings and veneer repairs here and there to the working drawers and some very fine and old grain cracks which are stable and not going anywhere. Hand Dovetailed drawers and the back is also hand dovetailed in place(pic#12) Nice stepped back lower drawer. The Bookcase Section as two OG Doors that open to reveal three shelves. The bottom shelf has fifteen shaped document sections. The middle section has two blind doors that open to reveal nine drawers and twelve cubbies. Bottom case section has three drawers with opalescent sandwich glass pulls. A very fine and probably one of a kind antique American R.J. Horner highly carved mahogany full standing winged griffins with tails Ca. 1890's. This a rare large oval solid mahogany top which measures 59" inches long. It also has four original draws two in the center one on each side and two on each end of the oval top.The only one I have seen before. This desk is in very good to excellent condition for its age.All of the original wings are present none have been broken or repaired. Note in one photo you see the oval top lip on one end its up a bit off the apron just missing a couple screws forgot to screw it down they are in the draw. Antique 1860s Flame Mahogany American Empire Carved Column Foot Slant Top Desk
1860's Flame Mahogany Late American Empire Desk with Carved Corner Columns and Feet This estate item is ready to use as is. It has beautifully carved front corner columns and feet. The inner desk case and all drawers are dovetailed construction. The front dovetails of the drawers have been bulked up with added strips of wood that cover them up. but they are there! The back corners of the drawers are dovetailed as well. I pulled the inner case out so you can see the construction. Also there is rough cut wood on all drawer bottoms and back of inner case. Secondary wood looks to be pine. The pulls as you can see are changed out to glass. The key is with it and works to secure the drop front. All and all this is a very pretty desk ready to use! Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top c1850 Being presented for sale is this Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top and 2 working keys.This fine 19th century piece has its original wavy glass and original hardware with all the locks intact but one of the keys work the lock on the glass doors and one key works the lock on the large drawer at the base. The bookcase top offers three original adjustable shelves that each measure 37 1/2 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches deep and provide a beautiful way to display that book collection or special collectibles. The fold out writing surface has vintage replacement light brown felt and is in very nice condition. This secretary desk does separate into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving.This Empire secretary is solid and ... moretight. The drawers open and close smoothly. This piece does show some very small veneer chips on the top of side moulding on the right side and some areas on the left side moulding shows some age shrinkage( see close up pictures) this is very common in period Empire pieces of this age and does affect the functionality or integrity of this fine piece at all, there is also an old repair by the hinge on the right door at the base which appears solid and tight.Please enlarge and examine the pictures for better detail. It consists of separate upper and lower cases with a fold over slanted writing surface with the following features& characteristics: The outstanding mahogany finish with crotch mahogany veneer is in excellent condition. Viewed from front or sides. The entire piece has a stunning, rich and warm patina. The upper bookcase and desk features a handsome projecting molded crown/cornice with a flat top. The double glazed panel bookcase doors feature individually paned window glass. All but two of these beautiful old wavy glass panes are original. The two(which were cracked) have been replaced with wavy ... moreold glass of the same period. Three wood shelves. Original to the piece, are fitted inside the bookcase. These. Plus the bottom of the book cabinet provide four display and storage surfaces for books and collectibles. Each of the 3 shelves is 39.25” wide and approximately 7.25” deep. There are two shallow. Made in two parts from perfectly matched mahogany and inlaid with boxwood. Spade feet. The top section is 33 inches high to the finial and the bottom section is 40.5 inches high. The total height is 73.5 inches. It is 29.75 inches wide. 16 inches deep, and 30 inches high to the writing surface, which is 21.75 inches deep when open. The lid measures 12 inches when closed. There are eight interior drawers, one door and several ledger compartments. The bottom has three serpentine drawers over three smaller serpentine drawers. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. This is a very nice mahogany with satinwood inlay American writing desk. to the top behind the door there are drawers with pigeon holes. To the base there are there drawers to either side they are there compartments for keeping bottle of drinks. It has the pull down flap for writing with a green baize. Circa Fourth Quarter of the 19th Century Item# 1408AWV10S This is a wonderful find. Crafted entirely with period techniques, tools and fasteners during the Centennial era of the late 19th Century. It is one of the truest representations of the Boston Kneehole Desk we've seen from this era, the craftsmanship positively impeccable. The dense mahogany planks for the top and sides of the case present a marvelous display of swirling grains and symmetry. Likewise, the boards used for the drawers have a fine swirling that augments the bow of each drawer to create a sense of greater bend and depth than actually present in the wood. The top is crafted of two planks of mahogany thumb molded of the solid, conforming to the ... morecase and projecting softly over all three sides- it affixes to the case by sliding onto dovetails along the sides, allowing the top to expand and contract over time without threat of splitting. The front of the desk features a broad single drawer over three graduated drawers on either side, flanking a single hidden drawer over the tombstone kneehole door. All drawers are crafted with great skill, the dovetails precise and perfect at each joint, the bottoms set perpendicular to the frame and affixed with tacks around all edges beneath applied runners on the sides. They retain their original hardware and working locks. The drawer bottoms, like much of the desk, are sawn by hand and lightly planed by hand- the kerf marks of the uneven saw are evident throughout these secondary surfaces. The feet are untouched and entirely original, the blocking still intact and in place other than a single missing corner block. An original Boston Kneehole desk would be beyond prohibitive in pricing- this fine object is as close to the original as is otherwise possible. Antique American Mahogany Writing Desk Bureau with Brass Handles Made in 1800s
This is a very nice very heavy Desk Bureau made in USA circa 1820. There are a few little repairs to the flap but the rest of the desk is pretty good. The colors is a brown and slightly reddish. The drawers and the flap has satinwood string inlay. There are small areas were some is missing, it sits on splayed feet and has brass handles which may not be the original ones. The back and the drawer linings again are all original with dovetail joints to the drawers. Its fitted with 2 envelope drawers to the interiors and many small drawers with a few small brass handles missing. But we will try and find these before its sold. The slides work fine to support the flap. Measurements are 42 wide 20 deep. 43 high.
