Here is another nice functional piece. This is a Mid 19th Century French Red Leather Top Desk. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Writting surface is covered with red leather, which has darkened with age and has some discoloration that does not take away from it's beauty. Straight tapered legs matching in front and back, all done in herring bone pattern inlay, as well as the rest of the piece. Top has a nice wood quarter inch gallery, that tapers in the front. Each side has candle pullout surface, that is leather covered as well. H eight is 29.5" to the top with 24.5" ample leg room underneath which is often not the case with period desks. Here is another top of the line item carrying a thrift shop price. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. Greatest feature of this desk is in it's inlay which carries many different prescious stones and metals, you will see in the photos(lapis, etc) There are areas of inlay where metal is other than brass, ... moresome silver in nature as well as copper. Also there are small nail heads throughout the piece, giving it an interesting detail. Unusual and great. English 1870 Leather Top Writing Desk. A precious writing desk from about 1870 was hand crafted in England. The original finish on mahogany is well preserved. There are mars and shrinkage separations from age, see photos. An upper gallery surrounds a pen rest and sockets for inkwells. There is a saddle leather insert on the slanted writing surface. Under the lift lid is storage space plus two tiny drawers. Because of the stacked bookshelf and spiral threaded spindle design, the frame has some flex, but is strong and usable. SORRY FOR THE PICTURES FOR SOME REASON THEY DIDN`T COME OUT GREAT. This is a very nice mahogany partners desk made in England circa 1870. Its in very good condition. The only thing I can see is that there has been a repair to the top right of the desk but looks fine, there are a few marks in the leather again nothing really bad. To either side of the desk there are pull out slides with leather insert. The quality is very good the drawer linings are solid oak with dove tail joints. This comes in 3 parts two pedestals and the top. It has brass handles and also brass key plates. There is one key plate that is missing. Measurements are 60 wide. 45 deep, 32 high.

This is a mid 1800's civil war era field officers desk. For it's age. It is in good condition! It still has the original leather with gold leaflet and all moving components of the desk work perfectly. This includes a spring action door revealing two hidden compartments containing original pen tips as well as a penny red stamp! The pen tips as well as the stamp are included in this rare auction! The leather has separated partially at the folding point of the two wooden top pieces and there is a small crack in the top as well as the bottom. Antique Walnut Gold Embossed Leather Top Dovetailed Lap Desk
This is an Antique Gold Embossed Leather Top Lap Desk. The wood has a beautiful patina. It appears to me that the top frame of the desk is walnut and the secondary woods of the side and back panels is pine. The back corners have beautiful hand cut dovetails as seen in a pair of closeup photos. That attest to the age and hand made nature of this piece. The desk was purchased in England. And we are pretty confident it was made there as well. We do not know the age specifically but we are pretty confident it is a 19th Century or older piece. The total size of the desktop frame is 18 3/4" x 13 3/4" The leather clad writing surface is 15" x 10" The height at the back corner is 3" Transitioning very slightly higher at the edges transition to the upper surface. The three sided framed out support measures 17 1/2" x 12 ... more1/4" The desk weighs 3 1/2 pounds and it is a substantial, solid piece. You can see the construction in the photo of the underside and the two photos of the dovetails. The three panels are attached with screws. There are some remnants of some sort of paper covering on the bottom as seen. I do not know what this was from. With the warm glow of the walnut. The beautiful leather, and the great hand cut dovetails, this fine desk would be a wonderful addition to your home for decor and/or actual use! Condition Overall. The desk is in excellent overall condition. The walnut top has a beautiful patina with dings and wear consistent with its age and use. The leather top has a couple very minor scratches that the photo flash highlighted making them more apparent than they actually are. The top is firmly and uniformly glued to the wood. In some of the photos, you can see some slightly wavy appearance that is an artifact of the original creation of the piece, but we will guarantee your satisfaction that the writing surface is as you would expect it to be. This Auction is for an Antique 19th Century Approximately 1870's Victorian Walnut Kneehole Writing Table Desk. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish.
