This is a turn of the century wood lap desk with some issues. It measures about 11-5/8" by 8" by 3-1/2" deep. The wood is probably walnut or mahogany and does have age wear- a solid box- both the cover and the bottom have splits as you can see in the photos- has the compartments- one of the small dividers is missing- not sure if the locking mechanism works as there is no key. The lock is present and there is no key. Locking top plate needs to be reattached. Its hinges need to be reworked. The hinges are included. But the location on the box needs to be repaired. There's the label on the back that's patially in-tact. These desks were manufactured from the late 1920's thru the late 1930's. The desk measures approximately 23" wide. 15" deep, and 33 1/2" tall. The chair measures approximately 12 3/4" wide, 12 3/4" deep. and 26 1/2" tall. The wood looks to be maple. The condition is awesome for used furniture over 80 year old. This very nice late1800s school desk will look great anywhere in your home. The bench seats folds up. The desktop has a hole for inkwell and a groove for pencils. Antique School Desk Ward Ware Buffalo NY 1881 Vintage School Desk Youth Desk OLD
PLEASE READ ENTIRE AD AND VIEW ALL PICTURES! You are looking at a Couple of Primitive Antique School Desks. THEY ARE BEING SOLD BY THE PIECE. BUY BOTH FOR A SET OR JUST ONE WITH 1st CHOICE TO 1st BUYER. These are old late 1800s early 1900s. I believe the 2nd desk(pics 8-12) older than the 1st one pictured(pics 4-7) The 1st desk has more adjustment than the other and just appears to be newer with more adjustment options: entire desk and seat can be raised or lowered and seat has a pitch adjustment. It is cast 1881 but that is a patent date and I believe It is closer to early 1900s. The 2nd desk definitely appears older with 1881 stamp and I believe is late 1800s with the only adjustment is the pitch of the seat. Both have ink wells so they are on the older late 1800s to early 1900s. Seats fold up on both but the desk folds down on the newer ... moredesk. Both are made by the Ward Ware Co. Buffalo New York. I love the old patina of the wood. All castings of the maker and patent dates are cast into these pieces. Possibly they are real close to the same age but just different models. I like the fact that they both have decorative cast Iron frames although each one has It's own unique look. I believe they look good together. They both have a number cast in them, the newer has a"4" and the older has a"1" possibly row seating numbers. I would prefer LOCAL PICKUP but I will ship. It will be expensive and calculated by your location and they will be BROKEN DOWN COMPLETELY for shipping. There will not be any combined shipping since each desk will go into a separate box. It is fully functional and very sturdy! I noticed that one of the screws is missing from the top portion of the writing desk so the top is a tiny bit loose with a slight wiggle. There are some pen marks and paint marks on the desk- you know how kids are! There is a 4 in split in the wood on the top writing desk. There are scuffs and scratches from use/storage.
