The molding on the double door top is unusual chain style going around both doors. It is a heavy duty solid wood desk. There is a crack in the lid as shown in the photos. Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful tiger sawn oak most unusual carved Victorian partners desk dating from the 1890s in previously refinished ... morewonderful condition. It is an unusual desk with drawers opening on both sides and one door on both sides. Each side has a center drawer, a right-hand drawer, and a right-hand door. The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. The overall size is 52 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 30 inches high.

VERY NICE ANTIQUE FOLD OUT WRITING SLOPE/ DESK- LATE 1800's? MAHOGANY? Up for sale is this very nice writing slope. We don't know the age of this item but it looks like it's from the late 1800's. It might be oak or mahogany. But whatever it is it's very nice. It has a little drawer below the writing slope area. The slope folds out and has a leather surface, this may have been replaced at some point. The hinges on the side also don't look original and were probably replaced. You can tell around the hinges where the wood failed and they replaced the hinges. The top flips up too to allow access to the slots for papers and envelopes that is in the back. Behind the writing slope is a wider area to hold other things. We've tried to show how the whole thing works in the first five pictures. The top has a lock but it doesn't ... morehave a key. The drawer has a lock on it and it does have the key as you can see in the pictures. It's very nicely done. The drawer is dovetail mortised on the sides. It's a very nice size and would be fairly portable if you needed it to be. It measures 14.5" W x 9.25" D x 10.25" H. The slope part is 13.75" H by 13.25" W. It weighs 9 lbs. It has accessories- they are in need of repair/refurbishing. There is a brass swivel ink-well/pencil holder in the center. One of the ink well rings(1 of 3) is gone. It screws to back. And lost screw. Needs to be short so it won't interfere with the roll-top when it is open. There is 4 letter sized drawers. Two have need of handle repair. There are two perfectly good"secret" pencil/pen holders disguised as corner molding. All the slots are long. And they are all there and work fine- great for organizing reciepts! There is a leather hanging trash bin. Which used to fit under the desk, but the leather has disintegrated and needs to be replaced. Canvas would work fine. It is in good condition for the age. The secretary needs a little TLC. In the picture it looks like there is a gap between the roll and the desk side but there is not I just did not have the cylinder part of the desk down on the peg where it rests on the desk. There is some minor wood working that needs to be done. A few of the ears need to be fixed and the desk needs to have a writing surface made. Antique Vintage Child's Wood School Desk Bench Chair - very nice condition!
This very nice late1800s school desk will look great anywhere in your home. The bench seats folds up. The desktop has a hole for inkwell and a groove for pencils. Very nice ornate wrought iron legs add to the beauty. Inscribed on the leg are the patent dates from 1881. 1890, and 1891. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos but the words are much clearer than these pictures show. There are many uses for these school desks as a decoration or actual use in your house. I have seen some used as very nice plant stands. This desk is in great shape for it's age with some minor scratches and aging. Antique Wood Roll Top Lap Desk, Travel Writing Slope Box w Drawer, Nice Patina
Beautiful Antique Roll Top Lap Desk. Writing Slope Up for your consideration is this truly beautiful antique lap desk. Made of wood. I am uncertain of the actual type of wood but has nice graining. This is just great in every way, it is intact and very secure when completely shut and when you pull out the drawer at the front, it will open the roll top portion in the back to expose a three section area inside. Once the roll top is open, you can unfold the desk portion which flips open from back to front and leans securely on the open drawer for stability, the desk has a purple or a worn blue felt top with brass hinges. Again, the wood is very nice inside and out, the drawer opens nicely as does the roll top portion. There is a large transfer decoration on the wood desk top, there is also the very slight remains of one on the top of the roll ... moretop framed area. There are only two areas with minor problems, first is the lower right corner which is missing a small corner wood piece, and the upper left corner of the framing of the roll top where there is also a small piece of wood missing; otherwise, working very well and looking very good. There is a brass lock in place for the drawer but no key and the hinges are brass as well and seem to be original. It measures 12 1/8" wide, 9 1/4" deep, 5 1/2" tall. It is very clean, no major breaks, cracks, or discoloration. Nice patina, nice scroll design in wood at the top roll top framing, transfer decoration is wearing and almost gone on the top portion, and of course, the two missing pieces mentioned earlier. This raised panel tiger oak flat top pedestal desk dates from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. It has eight drawers and two writing pull-outs. It was refinished about 30 years ago. The finish is not perfect. The top has an ink stain. Two of the drawer handles are missing. One is broken. The imperfections give the desk some character. Nice ANTIQUE 1827 AMERICAN TRAVELING LAP DESK Secret Compartment PROVENANCE NOTE
I will be listing a variety of nice estate-fresh Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is a Great ANTIQUE MAHOGANY AND POPLAR WOOD TRAVELING LAP DESK with EARLY PROVENANCE NOTE FOUND HIDDEN INSIDE A SECRET COMPARTMENT INSIDE DESK which reads"Made by Thomas J. Luther. June 26. 1827 in the 70 year of his age. Witness John G. Hopkins" There is also another 19thC name written on the frame of the interior writing surface which looks like"Miss Lizzie Carlile" see photo) I would guess this to be an American Lap Desk since the secondary wood is made of a poplar wood. Desk box is 22"W x 11"D x 8-1/8"H. I was not able to identify who the names on the note and box are in my quick research. Since the note says Thomas Luther was 70 years old in 1827. Then he would have been born in 1757(or maybe 1756? I find it unusual ... morethat this maker's information was witnessed by another gentleman- I've never seen that before. Beautifully made early lap desk. Early square nail and dovetail construction. Lovely old patina to exterior mahogany surface. The desk has a working key for the exterior lock(you need to turn key to the left a bit hard to lock the desk. But will turn fine and lock and unlock the desk once you get past the sticking point) The desk also has a locking bottom drawer- you pull up the metal rod on inside of box to release the drawer. The desk has a secret triangular-shaped compartment underneath the center well- first you push down the outside end of the pen tray to lift out the tray, and then you lift out the partition wall to access the compartment. The Early-19thC provenance note was found rolled up inside this compartment. The brass hinges look like later replacements but function very well. Some chipping to edges of wood around the hinges. Also a chip off of wood on the rear side right corner of box. An aquaintance of mine nicely replaced the leather hinges behind the green felt on the interior of desk. The surface is slanted and the 2 1/2 inch drop/slope starts at 8 1/2 inches from front of desk and stops 21 inches down at a'pencil stop' piece of small well-rounded oak molding. The 4 drawers along the top are all 16 inches wide-3 deep and 23" long-one of them is a coin drawer*see photos) One side column consists of five 14 1/2 inch drawers all 5" deep and 23 long. The other column has a 24 inch'roll top' section X 14 wide followed by a bottom drawer also 5" deep and 23 long.
