The secretary is in fair condition, and unfortunately has some ... moreissues. The shelves are loose within the bookshelf / Vitrine section although the glass is intact on the front of the door. The secretary has a mirror, that is on the top at the right side and unbelievably gorgeous carved details and applied accents all throughout. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

It has matching brass knobs on all doors and drawers, with the exception of the far right drawer, which has a drawer pull on it. The desk has a large amount of surface scratches on it, particularly ... moreon the top surface. I am unsure of its actual age. I would guess that it dates to the 1940’s or possibly a bit earlier. It has the original hardware on the drawers although some of the drawer pulls are missing parts of their swivel handles. The desk drawers pull in and out smoothly and have dovetail joints. There are some nice carved details to the front of the desk, but it will most certainly need to be refinished as there are a lot of scratches on it, and some stains inside the drawers as well. The desk is 30” tall, with the space for the chair being 21” high, and 17.5” wide. The desk is 48" long, and 18" wide front to back at most.

ANTIQUE 19TH C SOLID WOOD DESK TURNED LEGS MORTISE & TENON CONSTRUCTION DRAWERS
Here is an absolutely delightful antique solid wood desk with front to back planked hand planed drawers. Mortise and tenon construction and beautifully turned legs. This desk stands 30 3/8 inches tall and measures 40 inches wide and 28 inches deep, front to back. The top consists of two boards, one 13 inches wide that runs flat across the top and a second board 15 inches wide that angles slightly down towards the drawers. The two drawers are each 14 1/4 inch wide by 22 1/2 inches front to back and 2 1/4 inches deep. The drawers do both still have an old lock mechanism and there is a key that works them that comes with the desk but I always consider old locks"risky business" which tend to stick and will not guarantee the locks as working for any length of time. This desk is completely pegged and stands strong. Level and sturdy. I ... morenoticed upon close examination someone has reinforced some of the joints in the drawers with screws and tightened the top down perhaps with screws they have pegged the ends of as well, tastefully done probably to maintain the desk as a functional piece without the costs and labor involved in a complete re-gluing of a piece like this. These adaptations again are not really noticed unless one looks the desk over very closely and in the end has kept it strong and sturdy. I am not positive if this wood is a lighter colored walnut, cherry or something like chestnut so I am choosing not to identify it for purposes of my listing though someone familiar with this type may recognize it immediately.
