The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. It is an unusual desk with drawers opening on both sides and one door on both sides. Each side has a center drawer, a right-hand drawer, and a right-hand door. The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. This is a late 19th century Tiger Oak Side-by-Side Secretary Desk/ Book Case. It is in excellent antique condition overall and loaded with details. The tiger striping feature in the oak is amazing throughout. There is an open upper shelf backed by a shaped beveled mirror. Below the open shelf. On the left, is a four shelf book case with three adjustable shelves and a curved glass door. On the right is a smaller storage compartment with a leaded beveled glass door. Below that is a drop down door that becomes the desk top when opened and reveals five cubbies and a central drawer. Below that are three larger drawers. The drop down and the three large drawers all have locks. All of the locks work and the key is present. Flanking all of this is a pair of Roman columns topped by Ionic capitals that hold up a canopy with an ogee shaped facing edge. ... moreThe two front feet are Empire style scrolls. vintage Raised Panel Quartersawn Tiger Oak Flat Top Pedestal Desk - nice antique
This raised panel tiger oak flat top pedestal desk dates from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. It has eight drawers and two writing pull-outs. It was refinished about 30 years ago. The finish is not perfect. The top has an ink stain. Two of the drawer handles are missing. One is broken. The imperfections give the desk some character. Antique Oak Library Table or Writing Desk Golden Oak Quarter Sawn Tiger Oak
LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY* Up for sale is this beautiful old library table or writing desk made out of quarter-sawn. Or quarter-cut white oak. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained, the wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures about 26 inches wide, 42 inches long, and stands about 30 inches tall. There is a drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. There is a burn mark along the edge as shown in the 5th photo, but otherwise the table is in good condition for its age. The inside of the drawer seems to have been replaced at some point in time.
