This auction is for a Fantastic Antique Wood and Cast Iron Combination School Chair and Desk with children's names carved in long ago. The cast iron legs have a neat Victorian Scroll design and are marked Buffalo New York and with the number 3 and three patent dates from 1881. 1890 and 1897. The piece oozes nostalgia with wood that has a great. Rich patina. Among the carved names are"Joyce" and"Jack" and other pictures. Including something that looks like a flower. The desk has a shelf beneath the desktop. The desktop itself has a well for pencils and a hole for an ink well. The piece was a recent purchase from an estate sale near Harrisburg. Pa. It is sturdy in all respects with a seat that folds up smoothly. Antique adjustable child's Desk and Chair made by Chandler Co. of Boston Massachusetts- wood with cast iron legs- chair leg marked with patent dates Nov 14. 1893 and June 9, 1893. This desk and chair set needs restoration. Both the desk and the chair indicate they are adjustable on cast iron bases. The desk is suppose to adjusts and the seat can adjust as well- though this old antique school desk and chair does need refurbishing. The desk has slates of loose wood on top and bottom, and one leg of desk is not affixed to bottom. It's possible that one leg on desk will be removed for shipping. Though this desk set has been in storage for many year. The bent wood chair is in solid condition- Both desk and chair do show age with scratches, scuffs, nicks and minor dings and digs. The Cast Iron base of the chair is marked"CHANDLER" ... morealong with the patent dates from the late 1800's. The cast iron base of chair and legs of desk features holes around the base for securing it to the floor if desired. The set overall is in original condition. It has Superior Mfg Co. Chicago. Superior Automatic, PAT PEND stamped on it. It has a beautiful ornate design. Measures 32-1/4" tall x 40" long x 34" deep with seat down.
