Condition: Unspecified Location: Napoleon, United States Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

It is an unusual desk with drawers opening on both sides and one door on both sides. Each side has a center drawer, a right-hand drawer, and a right-hand door. The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. The overall size is 52 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 30 inches high.

Beautiful Oak Butlers Desk from the middle of last century(1840's to 1870's) Nice condition with some minor issues that you would expect from being used over the last century and a half. Oak is the main wood with Walnut and Birds Eye Maple as the secondary(drawer fronts and desk top) Needs a cleaning and a light touch up but otherwise a great desk that would make a statement in your home! Scuffing along the bottom where the shoes would be as you sat there and one spot on the top(picture 11) Light scratching along the front and top as normal wear would occur. Tall Antique Victorian Oak Cylinder Desk Carved Secretary Glass Front Shelves
Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. An attractive tooled and embossed skiver to the lift flap offers a pleasing writing surface. The lid lifts to reveal a fitted interior. The upper provides a stationary storage section and is excellently presented. The header rail is classically styled with serpentine shape and moulded scroll form. Rising from original castors the Davenport flows through fluted columns flanking a superior field panel front with carved central cartouche. A quartet of side drawers provide further useful storage. This is a very pretty ladies desk owned by the seller’s family for over 40 years. It has a low applied scroll-carved crest rail over the wide hinged curved slant front and cabriole legs. A fitted interior. Long curved front drawer and two smaller curved front drawers complement the design. Height at center back 42 5/8" Width of cabinet 27 1/2" Depth of cabinet 14 1/4" Width of legs 29 1/2" Depth of legs 16 3/8" The desk has some wear from years of use. Please review photos. This is a fine example of a quality Victorian oak desk. It was manufactured circa 1890 and sold by the Paine Furniture Co. of Boston. The desk is made from quarter-sawn oak with lots of detail. The condition is excellent with smooth working and well-fitting drawers. Over the desks history the finish has evolved into warm colors with great patina. I do have the key for the desk. This is an Antique 19th Century Victorian Oak Roll Top Desk dating from the late 1800s. It measures 47 1/2 inches wide by 29 1/2 inches from front to back. It is 48 1/4 inches high. The back is finished. It has two slide out trays. On the left there are 4 drawers. On the right there are two regular sized drawers and below them is a very deep drawer that is the size of two drawers in height. The drawer on the right hand side at the top has a different style of handle. There is no middle drawer. There are a lot of cubby holes in the desk. Please see pictures for condition. Gilt& blind tool leather. Below. There are three working moulded drawers to each side of the table. On one side. There is a large compartmentalized central drawer. All drawers feature working locks and keys and the original brass key escutcheons. Hand sand, made a drawer, made two carved handles and made one wooden knob. You will call me when you see this desk in person to say“John I can’t find it” after you look all over for the replacement parts and I will say“that is because this guy is phenomenal at what he does. The desk is very unusual with swing side ends, which means that they flip around with a latch that allows it to go to the back side so the“S” top(which normally is a pain for people with computers, will not be a problem with this desk) Someone had lost the original thumb latch locks, and has replaced with modern day locks, which work fine. The roll has been all re-canvassed and re-glued so it won’t rip apart as original rolls usually done. The desk has been hand stripped, hand stained, multiple coats of sanding sealer, hand sanded many more times and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer has been hand rubbed to insure many years

Circa 1890 Carved oak Two drawers Very minor wear to top Excellent overall condition Sturdy, Here we have a really amazing Victorian carved antique writing desk done in oak with a leather writing surface. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. When we do a desk like this. We basically strip it down the bare finish, replace/retighten glue blocks to make sure it is tight and sturdy, sand, plane or whatever it takes to make this piece amazing. We are one of the few that actually tear down the canvas and re-canvas the roll because that is one of the things that many people pass over and then two years down the road the roll needs replacing. You won’t run into that problem with our roll tops and we will match our finish to anyone in the trade as we have been doing this for over 40 years! We are pleased to have an item look as beautiful as this desk. ... moreThe desk has 37 individual raised panels inserted on the construction of the desk. All of the components are original except for the brass knobs on the small drawers of the interior. After gluing to insure tightness, we go through and hand sand, multiple coats stain, apply multiple coats of Sherwin Williams lacquer, scuff and sand between the hand rubbed coats and finally top the table off with multiple coats of moisture resistant lacquer. We leave some of the characteristics mark in as you can see on the backside of the desk where there are a couple of little areas where they had old time repairs. The desk is simply stunning in a satin sheen lacquer. It is unusual to find a desk like this with as many raised panels and a semi full interior. The interior has 13 drawers, with pencil tray pulls, pencil drawers and carved handles. There are three slots for the letters and numerous pigeon holes. The desk was made by Standard, who was very competitive to Derby, and they made a rounded corner heavy duty piece. We have made sure that the locks work and come with keys. 100 yr. Old Painted Desk We have several old antique items to sell at my folks old house that I thought would best be liquidated here on Ebay. This oak secretary or writing chest is absolutely wonderful and is so much more attractive in person than the pictures. Every authentic antique painted piece of furniture of this nature is original unique and of its own beauty and this one is no exception. Green color is rich and deeper green in person than with camera flash. The green is likely an old oil based enamel or lead paint. The top surface is glared in a couple pictures appearing a different color but it is the same green color as the rest of the cabinet. The paint is not flaking or pealing but is still very strong adhering all over. Loads of character and charm. The whole piece is solid as a brick and not rickety or wobbly. I don't see ... moreany repairs or cracks etc. Typical wear that would be indigenous to this period and stature. I took a close up of damage on interior of the door around the drop hinge arm. Drawers function well and door closes nicely. I particularly like the shaker style going narrower to the floor as seen in the side profile. The detail in curvature of the drawer fronts is unique as well. There has been no back on the cabinet for many years. I have seen hundreds of secretaries in my days but have never seen this particular style before. This little cabinet is simply divine and could be used in so many rooms of a home to suite your taste.
