Antique small Captain's or Davenport desk. Mom and Dad collected antiques for decades. Starting in the 1950's, this is from their estate. Dad often would provide cards on some of their antiques. The following is his writeup: Captain's desk. 32" high by 21" wide by 20" deep. Height to writing surface is 27" at front, 29" at back, has 18" wide by 5 1/4" deep raised compartment with hinged lid. Has four drawers, each with two pulls that open on the RH side, false fronts and pulls on LH side, each drawer 11" wide by 4 1/4" high by 16" deep. Has two inside drawers under writing surface. All surfaces except turnings have pecan burled veneer, narrow inlay on top and front, porcelain casters" This desk is in very good to excellent condition for it's age-see pictures. Antique School Desk. 1891- Used, Beautiful Condition! This desk was patented in 1891 and manufactured in Buffalo. New York. It was used in a one-room school house in La Flore County in the state of Oklahoma from the 1890's up until the 1940's or so. When the school house was torn down in 1967, this desk was saved, brought to San Diego, and kept safe and protected since then. The Desk is made from beautifully embellished black Wrought Iron& Contoured Wood. Very STURDY. The Seat easily flips up and down. The Desk-Top features a long groove(for pencils/pens) and a round hole(for an inkwell) The Desk-Top also features the inevitable markings and'artwork' left behind by many many young students over the years. There are initials. Signatures, random spelling words, dates(ie- 1917, etc. various kinds of famous symbols(historical/religious/other) ... morenonsense words and some very intriguing artwork. All of these markings are very important to the historical value and charm of the piece. Some of the markings especially illustrate what was in the minds of students during different periods of the 20th century. The desk has been re-assembled. Cleaned, detailed to a nice shine, and the wood and been cleaned/oiled/revitalized(as you can see in the photos) However, it can be easily dis-assembled as well. It is a little heavy. but will easily fit into the back of a truck/van/suv/car. It measures: 36" H x 24" W x 36" D(that's with the seat in the down position) This Antique School Desk is a true piece of American History.and it shows. Antique Secretary Desk Beautiful Original Late 1800's to Early 1900's
This is a original antique secretary desk. It is a beautiful piece and in nice condition considering it's age. The original company sticker is inside the bottom drawer. It is the Udell Works company. This company built furniture in Indiana and Chicago. At different times. The company existed from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The wood grain is beautiful. It has a fold down top, two drawers, and space inside the fold down top for storage. There is a key hole lock but no key. The measurements are approximately 27-1/2 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 41 inches high. When the fold down is open for writing, it extends another 13 inches, which makes a total depth approximately 30 inches when opened. There are some stains inside the desk and one of the drawers and some fading of the wood. Purchased this 19th Century Sugar Desk about 20 years ago. I was told that the sugar was put in top and the drawer was for utensils. The dovetails are gorgeous! The box and drawer are all dovetailed. The drawer has the original knob. The lock is sill in the drawer. The entire sugar desk originally had a red lining. But over time only the drawer has the red lining. A Sugar Desk, also known as a Traveling Sugar Desk, was taken with you when traveling since sugar was such a valuable item in the early 19th century. This beautiful box could be used as a keepsake box or just sitting on a desk for show. It has such a substantial presents, it would be stunning placed alone on a shelf. Antique French Roll Top Carved Desk 19th Century Beautiful
Up for auction this week is a nice 19th century French roll-top desk that I purchased from an antique furniture dealer on eBay three years ago. I must sell this desk to make space in my office for other furniture. I am not a furniture expert in an sense of the word. But can assure you this piece is late Victorian and original. The desk appears to have a burl mahogany veneer, but it is difficult for me to tell whether the wood is mahogany. I suspect it might in fact be walnut. The desk is in overall fair-good condition for its age. There are many spots where there have been nicks, dings, and scratches(all commensurate with age) and you can probably notice many of them in my photo gallery. The previous owner attempted to clumsily color in a few areas of missing wood with a modern repair'pen' There are also ink stains in one of the secretary ... moredrawers where the pens were likely stored by previous owners over the years. Nevertheless, the desk is still solid, beautiful, and functional after many, many years of service. It is a magnificent example of late victorian period furniture. The desk has its original hardware and came with a plethora of keys. The keys work and lock the cabinets in the upper gallery, but they do not seem to be able to lock the drawers in the desk proper. This desk has ample space for storage as you can hopefully see from my photographs. If you have a home or an apartment with limited space, one bit of good news is that this desk is comprised of three separate pieces for ease of transport; the large base, the roll-top, and the upper gallery/curio cabinet. The overall height of the piece is 72 inches, and the maximum width of the piece is 46 inches. Interestingly, the desk also has two leather-top side leaves on either side that extend outward another 20 inches. This desk is fully functional with a very nice leather-top writing surface that extends outward to allow a greater work space. This beautiful piece of American history is constructed from solid American oak that has aged beautifully. The hand tooling on the drop front and cabinet panels is meticulous and detailed. There are 2 small side drawers featuring period brass handles and 1 wide center drawer to the front that is secured with a key latch. The pull-out rails are solid and in perfect condition. ENGLISH made burr Walnut writing slope lap desk from the victorian era approx 1860-1880.lots of inlay. It is in fantastic condition and ready to use. It has had its leather writing surface replaced at some point in its life. Looks good. There have been repairs done in bits on the sides of box.nothing terribly bad and not terribly noticeable. felt on bottom has been replaced. The ink well comparment on one side has dividers and due to a bit of wood shrinkage. They will fall but they stay put if you put them in place and set the lap desk somewhere.the hidden comparment is missing the long piece of wood that has the trigger mechanism on it to hide the 3 drawers.it doesnt take away from the charm or beauty of it.one tiny drawer knob is missing.over all, its in great usable, sturdy condition.ready to be used to write your letters.i have 3 and ... moream keeping two.hard to let one go but i dont write enough letters to justify keeping 3. LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY* Up for sale is this beautiful old library table or writing desk made out of quarter-sawn. Or quarter-cut white oak. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained, the wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures about 26 inches wide, 42 inches long, and stands about 30 inches tall. There is a drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. There is a burn mark along the edge as shown in the 5th photo, but otherwise the table is in good condition for its age. The inside of the drawer seems to have been replaced with some plywood at some point in time. The drawer doesn't slide smoothly, but may be an easy fix. Antique Oak Desk-Late 1800s-Beautiful Piece of Railroad History-Hoosac Tunnel
Train Station Desk from North Adams.MA-all original-circa-1875-90 unique/rare/historic piece. This solid oak desk measures- 7 feet X 30 inches and stands 49 inches to the top of the border rail which is 3 inches with a 2 inch cap. The surface is slanted and the 2 1/2 inch drop/slope starts at 8 1/2 inches from front of desk and stops 21 inches down at a'pencil stop' piece of small well-rounded oak molding. The 4 drawers along the top are all 16 inches wide-3 deep and 23" long-one of them is a coin drawer*see photos) One side column consists of five 14 1/2 inch drawers all 5" deep and 23 long. The other column has a 24 inch'roll top' section X 14 wide followed by a bottom drawer also 5" deep and 23 long. The top section, w/ the 4 drawers, comes right off-as it sits on pegs/dowels. The middle panel is slotted ... moreinto each column and has a small mounting brackets at the inside top of each side. The only markings found underneath the desk were the word STYLE and the# 757. It does have some surface staining, bings& dings-but it's all original-and never has been sanded, re-stained nor restored.Leave it to the experts. This is a really well built secretary desk/bookcase. Nice heavy oak. Sawtooth shelf brackets. Knapp dovetailing in the drawers dates the piece between 1870 and 1900. The smaller mirror is bevelled. The pulls are all a nice heavy brass. The condition is excellent. The cabinet is 81 inches tall. 55 inches wide and 17 inches deep. There are six skeleton locks. But no key. The cabinet on the upper left has a mirror on the back wall. There are two oak shelves that can be adjusted with the sawtooth oak bracket(see photo) It is 27 inches wide 45 inches tall and 9.5 inches deep. The two drawers on the lower left are 8 inches tall. 27 inches wide and 9 inches deep. The drop front desk lid is 18 inches tall and 23 inches wide. Inside the desk ar cubby hole and a small drawer. Below the desk part is a drawer that is 4 1/2 inches tall. 23 inches tall ... moreand 9 inches deep. Below that drawer is a cabinet that is 16 1/2 inches tall. 23 1/2 inches wide and 14 inches deep. A beautiful c19th mahogany tripod table with hinged lid writing desk top. Lovely colouring all over. With an inlaid brown leather writing pad to the top and a finely turned tripod base. Three original brass castors in good order. Some historic patches the tripod base including the desirable iron brace beneath the legs: a sure marker of good age and originality. Other markers of age include occasional dings and marks to the table top. Together with a few minor veneer losses. All such things mentioned for completeness and commensurate with good age and use. Large 2 peice roll top desk 45" tall 30" deep and 47" long the top does separate from base made out of oak the roll top works great this desk came out of the old sohio gas station desk is very old and heavy there is still the old advertising mat laying in the writing area I took picture of this and I took a picture without it they are 8 drawers and 2 slide outs for a type writer bottom right drawer is for filing cabinet over all the desk is in good shape they are some scratches and ware because of age they are afew spots of white paint that has dripped on it there is a deeper scratch on top that might go away with old english? Beautiful Antique Davenport Captains Desk 1880s
For your consideration is this Antique Davenport Desk or Captains Desk. The desk is solid Walnut with applied Burl Walnut accent panels and the upper portion is Burl Walnut. The interior is Bird Eye Maple with three drawers and six cubby holes. Four drawers on right side all function and lock properly with small pen or pencil drawer. There are four faux drawer fronts on left. Desk is in wonderful condition desk comes with two keys. Desk top lock turns but very top of latch is broken so will not lock. All Walnut desk pulls are complete with no chips or cracks. Desk is 25" wide 25" deep and 35" tall.

Fine antique French or Biedermeier style Secretary 1800s beautiful wood grain
We purchased this wonderful piece in south boston. Virginia. It is 84 inches tall, 22 inches deep, 38 inches wide. The wood is like a birdseye grain but it could me a more exoticwood. It is really beautiful. The piece is in very good condition. The desk lid misses completely closing ever so slightly. I have shown this but it does not detract in any way. Because of the ebonized accent, I call it a biedermeier style. I believe it is from the 1800s. Please arrange pickup south of richmond. Exact address to the buyer upon sale.
