The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today what I believe to be a bench made custom solid tiger sawn oak Chippendale raised panel all the way around cabriole ... moreleg flat top desk that dates from the 1890's. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

This heavy old oak railroad desk has a hinged. Slant top with storage under lid and book storage in the back with a latch on the door. It was made to be a free-standing desk that could be in the middle of a room or train station rather than against a wall(although I have it against a wall in my home due to space limitations) Top has a pierced decorative piece; also slot for pen and ink wells. Original patina; never refinished. Desk measures 25.5 inches wide x 25.75 inches deep x 36.5 inches ... moretall/high. Great piece of railroad history. Condition: You can see cracks in lid and bottom of drawer along seams of where the wood was glued together at point of construction. Ink stains/spills inside drawer. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. 1840's ANTIQUE SOLID WALNUT DRAWING ROOM DESK
Be sure to add me to your! This elegant SOLID WALNUT DRAWING ROOM DESK has a lift top with storage beneath and two drawers. It sands on four beautifully-turned legs which taper down to a distinctive ball before finishing with brass tips and rollers. Brass also finishes the drawer pulls. The main keyhole and hinges for the top. There is a decorative wood strip separating the drawer section from the writing top. There are large hand-wrought dovetails on the corners of the writer's top. A walnut cornice tops off the top flat section of the writers desk, also adorned with hand-wrought dovetails. Beautify wood grains flow thought the w alnut piece. The two drawers' interiors have some rough top edges. There appears to be deliberate rough carving of two indentations allowing something to lay across the drawers. None of this is visible from ... morethe outside. Toward the bottom of one of the legs there is a surface crack; and at the top of the same leg. There has been filling repair. The desk rolls nicely and is easily moved. It needs a good polishing. It measures 49 inches long and 25 inches deep, and stands 34 1/2 inches high in front, and 40 inches to the top of the cornice in back. It is finished all around and could grace the middle of a room. Antique Solid Oak Cylinder Desk circa 1875-1890
This is a solid oak hand carved work of art that anyone would have proud to adorn their home. A cylinder desk that purportedly was once owned by the tobacconist Philip Morris. His name is stamped in the upper right hand drawer of the desk. This unit is a handcarved and handcrafted work of art and was built between 1875 and 1890. There is one lock missing from one of the drawers and it cannot be replaced with an original as we were not able to locate one. In addition. The top of the desks surface has had an insert set in as the desk once had some mechanical device mounted in the top two drawers of the main part of the desk and apparantly rose through the top and was later replaced with matching oak boards, however, this was done before the turn of the century. A very fine and imposing antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, Empire style solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers pedestaled partners desk. The carved claw feet have above carved acanthus scrolls, the pedestals partly turned and partly reeded. The kneehole entrys have carved acanthus leaf and half rosette. The three top surface boards have carved dagroon edge. The six drawers are bow fronted with flame veneers, the original glass knobs reeded. Includes the lock to both center drawer, the drawer interiors in maple and pine. The cross stretchers are squared and flame mahogany veneered. Desk measures 31" tall by 54" wide by 33" deep. From center half rosette at kneehole down to floor is 22-1/4" tall, by 15" deep to cross stretcher. Gorgeous solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1820-1860 I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth, yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt. There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing. I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 250 year old black walnut. The period solid walnut hand carved drawer pulls are from a Victorian dresser The harp shaped end is gorgeous and rare. As you can easily see with its cone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base. The slant top is fixed ... morein position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer lock mechanisms are missing.I restored all the drawers. Carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage. The desk is finished on all sides.It is a showpiece from all angles. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood.left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. ANTIQUE 19TH C SOLID WOOD DESK TURNED LEGS MORTISE & TENON CONSTRUCTION DRAWERS
Here is an absolutely delightful antique solid wood desk with front to back planked hand planed drawers. Mortise and tenon construction and beautifully turned legs. This desk stands 30 3/8 inches tall and measures 40 inches wide and 28 inches deep, front to back. The top consists of two boards, one 13 inches wide that runs flat across the top and a second board 15 inches wide that angles slightly down towards the drawers. The two drawers are each 14 1/4 inch wide by 22 1/2 inches front to back and 2 1/4 inches deep. The drawers do both still have an old lock mechanism and there is a key that works them that comes with the desk but I always consider old locks"risky business" which tend to stick and will not guarantee the locks as working for any length of time. This desk is completely pegged and stands strong. Level and sturdy. I ... morenoticed upon close examination someone has reinforced some of the joints in the drawers with screws and tightened the top down perhaps with screws they have pegged the ends of as well, tastefully done probably to maintain the desk as a functional piece without the costs and labor involved in a complete re-gluing of a piece like this. These adaptations again are not really noticed unless one looks the desk over very closely and in the end has kept it strong and sturdy. I am not positive if this wood is a lighter colored walnut, cherry or something like chestnut so I am choosing not to identify it for purposes of my listing though someone familiar with this type may recognize it immediately. Antique 1800s Lap Desk Sturdy Solid Mahogany Campaign Style w/ Lock and Key
This solid wood lap desk was made to hold up to heavy use. Probably for a Military Officer. A Traveling Official, or a Businessman that required a durable portable desk. Closed it measured 15 in. by 10 in. and 6 in. high. When opened it had a 13 ½ in. 5 ¾ in. writing surface and with another flip of the top would become a 13 ½ in. by 13 ½ in. surface. Made with solid Mahogany using hand cut dovetailed joints, it has Brass Handles recessed into the sides. Overall condition is good with wood patches in the back and along the inside edge. At some time in the past the felt was replaced and the leather hinges on the interior compartments are torn with the felt now supporting the writing surface. The top has a tight age crack, the felt has a tiny hole, and the old finish shows marks, scuffs, and fine scratches. It is sturdy ... moreand ready for use. Be sure to add villagewares to your favorites! This elegant 1840's Solid Walnut Drawing Room Desk has a lift top with storage beneath. And two side-by-side drawers. It stands on four beautifully turned legs which taper down to a distinctive ball before finishing with brass tips and rollers. Brass also finishes the drawer pulls, and the main keyhole and hinges for the top. There is a decorative wood trim separating the drawers from the writing top. There are large hand-wrought dovetails on the corners of the writer's top. A walnut cornice tops the top writing section of the writer's desk, also adorned with hand-wrought dovetails. Beautiful wood grains flow throughout the walnut. The desk rolls nicely and is easily moved. It is finished all around and would be attractive toward the center of a room. The two drawers interiors have ... moresome rough top edges. There appears to be deliberate rough carving of two indentations allowing something to lay across the two drawers when closed. The 4 drawers along the top are all 16 inches wide-3 deep and 23" long-one of them is a coin drawer*see photos) One side column consists of five 14 1/2 inch drawers all 5" deep and 23 long. very very heavy- has been in storage for approx. 18 years must have been taken apart before moving into storage- 4 main pieces(2 ends with drawers. Wood top and custom 1/2 thick curved edges glass top) the center drawer and front cover piece for the center drawer are not connected- it seems all wood pieces and hardware(screws) are there but cannot guarantee. hand carved floral design drawer pulls has worn areas along bottom edges most likely from chairs/feet rubbing along bottom has scratches.
