Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. Look at the carved handles, which are much better than normal, and how thick the top and swing sides and writing surface are. Everything on this piece is much better quality than the average desk. Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. One of the back feet looks like it has been repaired. See picture. 1884 Roll Top Desk with Corbin Cabinet Lock(CCL. RollTop) Excellent heavy wood. Locking roll top desk. The top rolls over the open desk and locks with a key; doing so also locks the top drawer as well. The lock is made by CCL(Corbin Cabinet Lock) they've been around since the 1800's. It is a two piece unit; the roll top desk area can be separated simply by lifting it from it's base(drawer area) It's also easy to move around due to base mounted wheels. There are far more than enough'cubbyholes' for all your knickknacks; including three rarely found vertical side slots(1@ 17" 2@ 8 1/2" There are two small drawers and dual pen holders in this area as well(see photos) The desk top surface area has wooden bumper guards at both sides. The base leg/feet area is of a'closed architecture' type(as opposed to ... morean open back style; see photos) and sports 8 drawers with 2 hidden sleeves on either side that you pull to extend(~18" The desk top itself has various glass/cup ring stains(see photos) There is a two piece spring loaded internal mechanism which serves to prevent the top from moving around. One of these pieces has come loose(part is included) and looks to be fairly easy to repair. Even still. It's function is basically unnecessary, due to the weight of the roll top(it won't be moving/sliding around) Being internal, this mishap is entirely hidden from any viewpoint angle. One of the four wheels is missing. The framework of this wheel is still intact, but the'wheel' itself is not there. The other three wheels are fine; the desk can still be easily moved around by the remaining three. The only history on this desk that I could dig up was from the previous owners that say it was owned by their friends Great Grandfather; a North Carolina abolitionist politician who also apparently wrote books. Let me start by saying that this desk has been professionally restored to it's original grandeur.There are lovely raised panels everywhere. Even the inside of the opening for the desk chair. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. There is also a"secret" drawer under the side with the four drawers. If interested in a photo of this. Then just let me know. Looks as if it was added after.but a hiding place. It has all of the striking features of a top of the line roll top desk or curtain desks as they were called back in the day. This desk is top quality solid quartersawn oak with beautiful woodgrain patterns and patina and may possibly be a Stickley Brandt based on photos of their desks which were being produced in the late 1800's from the book"Furniture Made in America by E& R Dubrow" It is very similar to their top of the line model with the shell carved handles and quartersawn oak paneled sides and rear. The fitted interior is fabulous with lots of drawers with the original small wooden knobs. A few of knobs are are chipped but all drawers and pulls are present and original which is very difficult to find! for auction is a wonderful solid quartersawn oak roll top desk. this desk has no veneers and the quartersawn oak flake is as good as i have ever seen or owned. an old man. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

The locks on the tambour and center drawer are from Corbin Cabinet and Lock Company. It was disassembled in the late 60's and completely refinished. This desk has 2 Pull Out writing surfaces. NO RESERVE For Auction is this antique Oak"S" Curve Roll Top Desk. Single Pedestal. Made by the"Indianapolis Cabinet Co. Indianapolis, Ind. The lock on the desk top is dated 1884. There is no lock inside the key hole/lock compartment. It has recessed panels on both sides and back. The Roll Top slides up and down. Not a smooth slide. You have to hold both handles to open and close. It tends to stick when sliding. The flat surface of the desk appears to have been refinished at one time and it has a brownish stain on the desk. The top portion of the desk sets on the base. It does not bolt into the base. There are signs of wear in the form of scratches. Chips to the wood and repairs that I tried to show in the many photos. This is an"S" Roll Top Desk circa 1890 made of solid oak except for the veneer inserts. The patent date on the lock is Dec 15. 1891. It has the original finish and measures 42" wide x 49" high x 32" deep with an unusually wide knee hole for your comfort. The finish is darker than it appears in most of the pictures and is closer to the picture of the chair. The desk is mounted on wheels. The dove tailed drawers and tambour operate as they should. I have never seen a roll top desk quite like this one. It might have been custom made for use in a office. It is all original, in obvious need of refinishing, unless you prefer the original condition, albeit stains, scratches, etc. typical of piece of this age. There is a large roll up door on left with compartments and one drawer, the board pulls out allowing leg room to work at desk, it seems a big short, but if you measure to top of pull out board it measures 25" high, appears to be ample room for your legs. Overall dimensions of the desk are 45" wide by 31" deep by 44" tall. The right side has small roll up door with compartments for files, note the name"Dearborn" stamped on surface. That dates from the 1880 era. ... moreIt has been completely stripped, re-glued, refinished, the canvas roll has been all re-canvassed, and we had to re-fabricate one handle(bet you can’t tell which one when you see the desk! Any molding damaged was replaced, any panels that were damaged were replaced, any wood damaged or ink-stained was replaced– we do one heck of a job when we go through a desk! The interior has burl walnut pencil trays and cubby drawers, and the original letter holders on both sides of the desk. We’ve even replaced the felt insert with the original factory dark green color. It has an applied beveled edge base, and a finished off back. We always put a reproduction roll-top lock in, which will be done before shipping. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 36 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface from the floor, and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. This RollTop Desk(47hx32dx54w) has three major moving parts aside from the six side drawers and four inside birds-eye faced drawers. The first moving part is the Facing which rolls back. The second is the desktop which rolls out to reveal 4 more birds-eye detailed drawer facings(facing only and not actual drawers) The third is a writing platform embedded into the desktop which can be propped up as shown in one of the pictures. None of the locks work- as I have none of the keys to test them. for auction is a very rare model signed grand rapids desk company roll top desk with a bookcase on top. i have a 20 years book with one identical to this listed in it. it was valued at 2800 osver 20 years ago. anyway. This is a wonderful desk, great quartersawn flake all thru all the boards. great construction and quite heavy for its size. it has too many features to mention, but hopefully the pictures will bring them out. the desk portion is 28 inches deep, 31 tall, and 40 inches wide. it has nicely form doors with great carving on the fronts, the one on the left opens to expose three small drawers, the one on the right opens to nicely scalloped dividers. the knee hole of the desk is rounder out at the back and is nicely paneled on either side. the roll top is 11 inches tall, 37 wide, and 25.25 deep and has a nice set of cubbies with a pull ... moreout drawer and pencil holders etc. the roll top rolls like butter and has the grand rapids desk company brass name plate over the lock of which i do not have a key. i have a key blank for it and can make a key if i get time. the top bookcase portion sits in a recess of the top of the roll top and is 37 inches wide, 10.75 deep, and 30.5 inches tall including the crown board. it retains the original wavy glass, lock, quartersawn oak fancy dividers for the top of the glass and has one shelf which can be adjusted to your liking as there are additional holes in both side of the cabinet to place the shelf holder pins. the entire unit is nicely paneled and finished all the way around so it can be placed anywhere in a room and will look nice, it is not necessary to place against a wall. the unit is three portion which come apart with ease. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. Outstanding American Quarter Sawn S Tiger Oak Roll Top Desk. Raised and beveled oak side panels. Late 1800's or early 1900's. 50"L. 34"W, 51"H. High grade and highly figured tiger oak in excellent condition restored at some point but shows some wear expected from a desk of this age. Some of the drawer bottoms have been expertly restored with old wood. The desk is a rich medium brown. The full desk interior has all drawer compartments filled with beautiful drawers with brass hardware. And two with waterfall fronts. Roll top desks with full drawer interiors are very scarce because of their higher initial cost. The drawer pulls on the two pedestals are unusually carved and quite rare and beautiful. The right pedestal drawer is of double height with filing wood separators. The covering of the roll has unusually shaped wooden ... morestrips over a fully restored canvas backing. 1800's Walnut Cylindrical Roll Top Secretary Desk With Bookcase
This is a very unique. Historic, piece possibly involved in 1906 California earthquake. It is a tall, dark walnut cylinder or barrel roll top glider desk with burled walnut. Dating from 1800-1890- time period uncertain. The bookcase is a separate piece for moving around. There are three(3) shelves that adjust on wooden supports. The bookcase measures 43 5/8 inches tall, 31 inches side to side and 12 inches front to back. The bird's eye roll top desk measures about 30 inches high(will need to remeasure to be certain) 30 inches side to side. The writing area measures 29 1/2 inches wide and 9 3/4 inches from front to cubbies, 6 inches of well worn felt(front to back) that is 23 3/4 inches across. Inside the roll top are 4 cubbies(5 inches by 5 1/2 inches) and one larger cubbie measuring 8 1/2 inches height, and 9 1/2 inches from side to ... moreside. Key holes, but keys are not available. The hardware includes square nails. More pictures available to show the detail clearer) There are three drawers with large brass and ebony wood knobs. The top drawers has two dividers. It is 4 inches top to bottom. 14 1/2 inches front to back. The dividers measure 7 1/2 inches, a larger one in the middle- 13 1/2 inches and another 7 1/2 inches. The other two drawers are both 8 1/2 inches top to bottom. It has wheels and it is in overall good condition but does show some signs of age. HISTORY There is a lot of mystery surrounding this piece and there is still research being conducted. Some clues are a Bank of America envelope with a.03$ stamp on it. A San Diego State College Envelope, postcards from Pacific Novelty Company and a collection of black and white photos with people and landscapes of China town, the San Francisco Bay area, and other picturesque scenery along the Pacific coast. The piece definitely has an unusual energy and most likely was involved in a very serious earthquake because of psychic visions.

Massive Antique Quarter-Sawn Oak Roll Top Desk Owned by Canadian Mounties
Massive antique oak roll top desk made by Horrocks— practically a ship. 71.5" wide. 35" almost 35.5" deep, with 30.5" of desk surface, and 43" high at the tallest point. This desk spent most of its life in an office of the Canadian Mounties. A traveling U.S. citizen fell in love with it and talked the Mounties into selling it to him; he moved it to Colorado, where he discovered it was too big to fit into his study/office, and so it went into storage for 40 years. It came to Santa Cruz, CA, in 1970; my father, who loves all things massive and well-made, bought it and it has been in my family's home since then. It needs a new home. A big one. With a big door. The smaller things: this desk has three deep drawers to the left of the chair space and two to the right(one is sized as a file cabinet) And a large flat drawer ... morewith a key(we have the key) It has many small drawers at the back of the desk space. There are two very cool corner drawers(on the inside of the inner arch, and they open up to a curved trough, which is perfect for pens and pencils. There is a mystery drawer with no known key. There are two pull-out writing tables. One drawer has a chip taken out of the wood, and we have the piece(as shown) One leg(to the left of the chair space) needs some refinishing. The desk is in very good general condition, and could use a good waxing. The hardware is brass. The roll top can stick but it works. And we have the key for it, too. Finally, the number"1821" is stamped on the underside of the desk. This is a splendid and dramatic desk. It is also comfortable to use. Its size makes it easier to accommodate modern office equipment than most antiques.

Christmas Special- FURTHER REDUCED PRICE. A great American antique with lots of nooks and crannies. In very good condition. I restored the rolling top so that it rolls smoothly. Side writing tables. Cute slot in S-top for letters, paneled back. Unfortunately, there is no key but it’s no problem opening and closing the top. The desktop area measures 62” wide x 30 inches high x 31 inches deep. With the roll-top, the desk is 51.5 inches high. The top comes off for easier moving and it’s on rollers. This is a numbered edition from PW Vallely, Nassau St. New York, No. 83. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I have available a true collector's item in this c1800s maple credenza manufactured by the Indianapolis Cabinet Company of Indiana. Credenza has a full locking roll-top with leather topped desk. Full cabinet on right side with shelf and four drawers on the left. Desk has an amazing full gallery removable top piece, spoon carved in center with open carved edge detail, matching the base. 3 desk keys and original caster wheels are included. There is no key for the side cabinet. Cabinet does not latch closed. The Indianapolis Cabinet Co. closed its doors sometime in the late 1800s. Please ask for additional pictures if needed. Condition: The cabinet is in amazing condition for its 150 plus years of age- the roll-top and lock function beautifully. All ... moredrawers and cabinets push/pull smoothly. There are two repairs on the gallery's open carved side on left(facing) as well as 3 cracks on the carved side on right. It measures 60”w x 35”d x 50”h overall. The roll top locks with a key when closed which also locks the drawers as well. It comes with the original Corbin key and lock.
