As I peruse the listings I see very similar desks all made in different places. In the days of these desks they must have been made more or less locally since there weren't highways and trucks to transport them around the country. This desk. As I presume the others as well, was patented, yet all the desks are pretty much the same. I don't understand that, maybe it was hard to enforce the patent laws back then. at any rate, this one was made by the S. S. Case Co. in Hartford. Connecticut prior to 1910. If you really want one of these desks and there isn't one local for you I am willing to ship this. It really is too large for me to find a box for it so it will have to go by freight. The desk weighs around 70lbs and I would strap it to a skid which weighs about 40 Lbs I would then stretch wrap it to keep it clean. I'm putting 130 in the freight calculator as the weight. But feel free to check other carriers on your own and I'll work with you. I've heard good things about Uship.com but you'll have to check them out for yourself. It is an original Antique dating from Circa 1900 which has been recently renovated and refinished in Farrow and Ball french gray(slight green tinge to it) The desk has a black vinyl writing surface which has just been fitted so is in very good condition. It has a scroll shaped back above a single shelf, small cupboard to the left and 2 small drawers to the right, it has a rectangular black vinyl work surface which is an ideal size for a computer, beneath is one large drawer above the kneehole and 2 elegant turned legs with castors and joining stretcher, the ... moredesk has a single pedestal of 5 good sized drawers with a plinth base, the desk comes complete with its original brass handles throughout, all drawers run smoothly and the desk has been polished on all sides to allow it to be free standing(slight crack to back panel) The desk is sound sturdy and 100% free from woodworm. Antique Oak Decoration From Slanted Writing Desk, Painted Shabby Chic
I bought a slanted writing desk and wanted to use it as a shelf. I took the door off and this decoration fell off. The desk and door are long sense gone but I found this cool decoration in a corner, long forgotten. So it is oak. The desk was sold to me as an 1800's piece but I do not claim to be an expert. This piece is 14.25" long and 6" tall at its center point. The paint as you can see is cracked and dirty with two small nails remaining. It is solid wood. Antique Folk Art One of a Kind Victorian Table With Reverse Painted Top
This is a really unique piece. The top is shaped like a large gear with the big teeth around the entire edge of the table. Something an engineer Would Have Made) The top of the table is glass with all of those beautiful flowers reverse painted on it. Someone made this special and I have never seen anything even close to it. As with the mirrors of this time some of the reverse paint is and has flaked off. The table stands surprisingly straight and sturdy for its size and design. You should pick this one up but if I ship it it will be at cost and I have no way of knowing that in advance. Inside File Section Only of Old Hardwood Secretary, Badly Painted White, Issues
This is not a whole secretary. But the old inside section consisting of wooden letter and document slots, a central compartment, and three drawers. HWD: 10 ⅜" x 30 ⅜" x[11 ¾" to 8 ½" It was made with what looks like solid mahogany for the drawer fronts and uprights. With secondary wood on bottoms and possibly the back. Sadly. Someone slopped white paint all over it and none too skillfully. Please note: 1) the little front door of the central compartment has what looks like a crack under the paint; although it feels very solid to the touch. And these painted cupids/landscapes are on a slightly raised. Built up surface which, when complimented with the gold paint, sets off well well lit dim or full light. Secretary at one time was modified with two lighting fixtures that are working in the upper section. Lower section was modified, floor has a plywood floor. Small wood loss on knee of leg(pictured) but in general, in outstanding condition for it's age. Unique, lavish embellishments, beautifully conceived and created. 100 yr. Old Painted Desk We have several old antique items to sell at my folks old house that I thought would best be liquidated here on Ebay. This oak secretary or writing chest is absolutely wonderful and is so much more attractive in person than the pictures. Every authentic antique painted piece of furniture of this nature is original unique and of its own beauty and this one is no exception. Green color is rich and deeper green in person than with camera flash. The green is likely an old oil based enamel or lead paint. The top surface is glared in a couple pictures appearing a different color but it is the same green color as the rest of the cabinet. The paint is not flaking or pealing but is still very strong adhering all over. Loads of character and charm. The whole piece is solid as a brick and not rickety or wobbly. I don't see ... moreany repairs or cracks etc. Typical wear that would be indigenous to this period and stature. I took a close up of damage on interior of the door around the drop hinge arm. Drawers function well and door closes nicely. I particularly like the shaker style going narrower to the floor as seen in the side profile. The detail in curvature of the drawer fronts is unique as well. There has been no back on the cabinet for many years. I have seen hundreds of secretaries in my days but have never seen this particular style before. This little cabinet is simply divine and could be used in so many rooms of a home to suite your taste.
