Condition: Used Location: Hyde Park, United States offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, ... moreand 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty of this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

This desk has five (5) substantial drawers with the original brass bail pull handles, and five (5) faux drawer fronts on the back side also with brass bail pull handles. Unusual and Lovely 'American' Victorian Partners Mahogany Carved Desk

Unusual and Lovely Victorian Partners Mahogany Carved Desk A superior desk in every respect with the classic 9 drawer configuration and original turned bun handles. The reverse has 9 dummy drawers which make the desk appear identical from both sides and it is perfect for sitting centrally in a room with the back on display. The desk has a number of very fine quality ... moredetails including hand carved panels at each flank and either side of the kneehole. The upper panels with etched back and crossed oak leaves on twisted branches and the lower panels of trailed ivy wrapped with ribbon. The upper drawers and side panels are dressed with thickly cut and beautifully flamed mahogany. The overhung rounded top is inset with an olive green leather in very good condition with gold tooled and embossed edge detail and gold leaves to each corner. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have good strong interiors with dovetailed joints. The escutcheons are original throughout. The desk dismantles into three sections- two pedestals and top and has an unusual mechanism whereby the top slots down into the pedestals and wraps around the front- so that it looks very much as though it is made in one piece when all together. Condition: there are minor dings and veneer repairs here and there to the working drawers and some very fine and old grain cracks which are stable and not going anywhere. Solid mahogany is used throughout this high-end piece, and it has dovetail drawers with bird’s eye maple in the drawer bottoms. Our master refinisher, Norm, has done a better than average job with this desk, and went right down to the bare wood, sanded, stained, paste-filled so it is baby smooth, and has put on a rich reddish-brown mahogany color stain, and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer have been applied so it has a nice, mellow semi-gloss finish. 1860's Flame Mahogany Late American Empire Desk with Carved Corner Columns and Feet This estate item is ready to use as is. It has beautifully carved front corner columns and feet. The inner desk case and all drawers are dovetailed construction. The front dovetails of the drawers have been bulked up with added strips of wood that cover them up. but they are there! The back corners of the drawers are dovetailed as well. I pulled the inner case out so you can see the construction. Also there is rough cut wood on all drawer bottoms and back of inner case. Secondary wood looks to be pine. The pulls as you can see are changed out to glass. The key is with it and works to secure the drop front. All and all this is a very pretty desk ready to use! This is a wonderful drop front secretary/bookcase combination also known as a side-by-side. I really like the style and grain of this desk. It's a large model measures 6' tall and 44" wide with the hooded top supported by two griffins with rolling tails. Incredibly detailed hand carving on the drop down front as well as very nicely carved throughout the front. Claw feet legs. An appraiser from the Antiques Road Show stated it was an English piece from the early 1800s or late 1700s. However the scene looks like the men are possibly spanish. She stated that if the bookshelf that should be on top were there it would be worth around $5000, but as is it should be worth between $3,000& $4000. Really, very nice piece. I believe it is mahogany, but I'm not an expert on wood. The scene carved into the drop down piece appears to be soldiers on horses helping to corral women& children to get to safety. for auction is a very nice antique mahogany signed r. j. horner kidney shaped carved writing desk. i suppose it is a ladies desk. at any rate. It has some very nice features which include five carved drawers with shell shaped pulls. it also has cabriole carved legs that end in nice claw feet on all four feet and legs. the mahogany grain is very nice and pronounced over the entire desk. a very heavy piece for its size. it is 48.5 inches wide, 24 inches deep at any particular place across the kidney shape. it stands almost 32 inches tall with casters, i expect it would be about 31 without casters. the knee hole is about 18 inches wide and 25.5 inches tall. it is very solid and in great antique condition. the legs had a little wiggle to them when i got it a long time ago and i reglued all of them. to my knowledge all the carving is in tact. ... moredrawers open nicely. a very nice and somewhat rare piece. actually i have never owned or seen another kidney shaped horner desk. i am sure there were several made but i have not seen any other than this one. a very versatile piece which can be used in about any room in your home. desk may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. i can help arrange shipment should that be beneficial to anyone. good luck. 54607 ANTIQUE 1890s CARVED MAHOGANY PAW FT 46" BOW FRONT KNEEHOLE DESK
A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany carved kneehole desk. The front and back sides are bowed, the sides with relief carved scrolls and scalloped rosette. The desk is finished in the round, on four paw feet. The top surface is a thick veneer. The secondary and drawer interior woods are maple and oak. Desk measures 28-1/2" tall by 46-1/2" wide by 27" deep, the kneehole 22-1/4" tall by 20" wide. Excellent condition: original finish, case without chips or cracks, top surface faint use scratches overall.

Monumental Rococo Victorian Transitional Mahogany Carved Butlers Secretary
This is another piece out of my personal stash that I reluctantly need to move. It's a huge desk with so many things going for it. I expect it was made by Mitchell and Rammelsburg even though there is no mark or tag. Very similar in appearance to other examples they made. Is a three piece unit comprising of a base with marble top. Bookcase and crest. All original cleaned finish in superb condition. Tennessee sausage marble tops the base if the butlers desk and bookcase sits above on a step-back. Original wavy seedy glass and crest. Desk needs nothing and is very impressive. It's rare to see a desk like this that is crotch mahogany and not walnut, in this case the mahogany looks better and I'm sure the manufacturer decided that it did too.
