I am unsure of the exact age of the desk. It is most likely a 1970's reproduction of an 18th Century Georgian Design. It has beautifully carved ball and claw feet, and chunky cabiole legs that are also carved at the knees. This desk has five (5) substantial drawers with the original brass bail pull handles, and five (5) faux drawer fronts on the back side also with brass bail pull handles. The drawers have dove tail joints. The desk was in front of a window for years, and therefore the finish on the back side is a bit faded.

This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I feel this would be best suited to thin string, thread or twine, as shown in the picture- and will be included with the box- rather than thick string. Antique small Captain's or Davenport desk. Mom and Dad collected antiques for decades. Starting in the 1950's, this is from their estate. Dad often would provide cards on some of their antiques. The following is his writeup: Captain's desk. 32" high by 21" wide by 20" deep. Height to writing surface is 27" at front, 29" at back, has 18" wide by 5 1/4" deep raised compartment with hinged lid. Has four drawers, each with two pulls that open on the RH side, false fronts and pulls on LH side, each drawer 11" wide by 4 1/4" high by 16" deep. Has two inside drawers under writing surface. All surfaces except turnings have pecan burled veneer, narrow inlay on top and front, porcelain casters" This desk is in very good to excellent condition for it's age-see pictures. Antique School Desk. 1891- Used, Beautiful Condition! This desk was patented in 1891 and manufactured in Buffalo. New York. It was used in a one-room school house in La Flore County in the state of Oklahoma from the 1890's up until the 1940's or so. When the school house was torn down in 1967, this desk was saved, brought to San Diego, and kept safe and protected since then. The Desk is made from beautifully embellished black Wrought Iron& Contoured Wood. Very STURDY. The Seat easily flips up and down. The Desk-Top features a long groove(for pencils/pens) and a round hole(for an inkwell) The Desk-Top also features the inevitable markings and'artwork' left behind by many many young students over the years. There are initials. Signatures, random spelling words, dates(ie- 1917, etc. various kinds of famous symbols(historical/religious/other) ... morenonsense words and some very intriguing artwork. All of these markings are very important to the historical value and charm of the piece. Some of the markings especially illustrate what was in the minds of students during different periods of the 20th century. The desk has been re-assembled. Cleaned, detailed to a nice shine, and the wood and been cleaned/oiled/revitalized(as you can see in the photos) However, it can be easily dis-assembled as well. It is a little heavy. but will easily fit into the back of a truck/van/suv/car. Outstanding American Quarter Sawn S Tiger Oak Roll Top Desk. Raised and beveled oak side panels. Late 1800's or early 1900's. 50"L. 34"W, 51"H. High grade and highly figured tiger oak in excellent condition restored at some point but shows some wear expected from a desk of this age. Some of the drawer bottoms have been expertly restored with old wood. The desk is a rich medium brown. The full desk interior has all drawer compartments filled with beautiful drawers with brass hardware. And two with waterfall fronts. Roll top desks with full drawer interiors are very scarce because of their higher initial cost. The drawer pulls on the two pedestals are unusually carved and quite rare and beautiful. Antique Secretary Desk Beautiful Original Late 1800's to Early 1900's
This is a original antique secretary desk. It is a beautiful piece and in nice condition considering it's age. The original company sticker is inside the bottom drawer. It is the Udell Works company. This company built furniture in Indiana and Chicago. At different times. The company existed from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The wood grain is beautiful. It has a fold down top, two drawers, and space inside the fold down top for storage. There is a key hole lock but no key. The measurements are approximately 27-1/2 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 41 inches high. When the fold down is open for writing, it extends another 13 inches, which makes a total depth approximately 30 inches when opened. There are some stains inside the desk and one of the drawers and some fading of the wood. Up for auction is this beautiful 19th century rose wood lap desk. This was purchased by myself at the Ivey sellkirk auction on dec. 8th featuring items from the Stan and Lillian Musial estate. It is in great condition and absolutely beautiful. It is 9.5 inches high and 14.5 inches wide. It features mother of pearl and abalone highlights. Beautiful, 1840's Cherry Stand-Up Clerk's Desk, Schoolmaster,Train Depot, Rare!
This is a Rare. 1840's Cherry Stand-Up Clerk's Desk in Beautiful Condition. These were also used by the Schoolmaster in early schools. This one might have come out of a Train Depot, as it had 3 tablets of 1974 Frisco Train Order Forms in it, and they will be included with the desk. This Desk came from the Atlanta Georgia Area. Measures about 51" tall to top of back gallery, 44" tall to front of writing surface, 22" deep, and 39" wide. The Desk finish has that soft pretty cherry look, and looks to be very old, has tall turned legs, wooden peg construction, all drawers are dovetailed and have hand chamfered bottoms, the desk case is all dovetailed, all knobs are there, there is some broken trim on one drawer front, pictured, and a split in the right corner area of the gallery, pictured, someone tried to repair this ... morelong ago as it has square nails sticking out the side. 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE SUGAR DESK - SIGNED - BEAUTIFUL PATINA
Purchased this 19th Century Sugar Desk about 20 years ago. I was told that the sugar was put in top and the drawer was for utensils. The dovetails are gorgeous! The box and drawer are all dovetailed. The drawer has the original knob. The lock is sill in the drawer. The entire sugar desk originally had a red lining. But over time only the drawer has the red lining. A Sugar Desk, also known as a Traveling Sugar Desk, was taken with you when traveling since sugar was such a valuable item in the early 19th century. This beautiful box could be used as a keepsake box or just sitting on a desk for show. It has such a substantial presents, it would be stunning placed alone on a shelf. Beautiful Mahogany Governor Winthrop Desk w/ Key - Sacks Furniture
I can't date this piece. But can tell you the hardware looks very old. The screws appear to me to be handmade. This was worked on, the handles are threaded with a very small bolt. I'm not an expert, but that does not seem as if it would be original to me. There are a couple small condition issues that I have to get photos of for interested buyer, but this is in great shape and a wonderful piece. This remarkable and exquisite Flame Mahogany Empire Butler's Chest is very striking and beautiful. The Chest is constructed of a mix of Mahogany and Cherry. It has three upper drawers; two with convex molded contours and original glass pulls. The center drawer is flat with a key hole. All the drawers are hand cut dovetail joints on all four corners of each drawer. Extremely amazing construction. The middle drawer. When opened with the original glass pulls, reveals a hidden desk compartment consisting of 2 vertical and 4 horizontal secretairian drawers with brass knob pulls, 4 accessible cubbieholes, a center securable lock box that was employed for confidenetials. Scrolled columns culminating into carved blocks that sit above the impressive scrolled front feet. Large but elegant turned spool legs are found on the back of this remarkable and very substantial chest. Antique French Roll Top Carved Desk 19th Century Beautiful
Up for auction this week is a nice 19th century French roll-top desk that I purchased from an antique furniture dealer on eBay three years ago. I must sell this desk to make space in my office for other furniture. I am not a furniture expert in an sense of the word. But can assure you this piece is late Victorian and original. The desk appears to have a burl mahogany veneer, but it is difficult for me to tell whether the wood is mahogany. I suspect it might in fact be walnut. The desk is in overall fair-good condition for its age. There are many spots where there have been nicks, dings, and scratches(all commensurate with age) and you can probably notice many of them in my photo gallery. The previous owner attempted to clumsily color in a few areas of missing wood with a modern repair'pen' There are also ink stains in one of the secretary ... moredrawers where the pens were likely stored by previous owners over the years. Nevertheless, the desk is still solid, beautiful, and functional after many, many years of service. It is a magnificent example of late victorian period furniture. The desk has its original hardware and came with a plethora of keys. The keys work and lock the cabinets in the upper gallery, but they do not seem to be able to lock the drawers in the desk proper. This desk has ample space for storage as you can hopefully see from my photographs. If you have a home or an apartment with limited space, one bit of good news is that this desk is comprised of three separate pieces for ease of transport; the large base, the roll-top, and the upper gallery/curio cabinet. The overall height of the piece is 72 inches, and the maximum width of the piece is 46 inches. Interestingly, the desk also has two leather-top side leaves on either side that extend outward another 20 inches. This desk is fully functional with a very nice leather-top writing surface that extends outward to allow a greater work space. This beautiful piece of American history is constructed from solid American oak that has aged beautifully. The hand tooling on the drop front and cabinet panels is meticulous and detailed. There are 2 small side drawers featuring period brass handles and 1 wide center drawer to the front that is secured with a key latch. The pull-out rails are solid and in perfect condition. ENGLISH made burr Walnut writing slope lap desk from the victorian era approx 1860-1880.lots of inlay. It is in fantastic condition and ready to use. It has had its leather writing surface replaced at some point in its life. Looks good. There have been repairs done in bits on the sides of box.nothing terribly bad and not terribly noticeable. felt on bottom has been replaced. The ink well comparment on one side has dividers and due to a bit of wood shrinkage. They will fall but they stay put if you put them in place and set the lap desk somewhere.the hidden comparment is missing the long piece of wood that has the trigger mechanism on it to hide the 3 drawers.it doesnt take away from the charm or beauty of it.one tiny drawer knob is missing.over all, its in great usable, sturdy condition.ready to be used to write your letters.i have 3 and ... moream keeping two.hard to let one go but i dont write enough letters to justify keeping 3.
