Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. Has one pin to hold the white glass shade and is Im pretty sure for a three way bulb. In great shape for age. Very minimal wear of black basicaly in one part that I see. Whole thing measures about 28 inches tall at the loop x 18. On the bottom is a metal plate that does have some rust but it doesnt affect the lamp. The shade is meant to fit perfectly on the white glass shade so it doesnt move. I dont know if it would hold a glass chimney or not but it doesnt look like it was intended for that. I think the hole at the top is to let out the heat. You will love it. It will need to go parcel post due to being oversize and to cut down on shipping cost. Grab it before someone else does. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. Here is a great Antique Lap Writing Desk for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. The lap desk is probably English made. THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID IT BELONGED TO HIS GRANDFATHER IN ENGLAND. F or your consideration is this walnut antique lap desk in very nice condition. The walnut case has a great luster to it. What makes this piece really unique is the secret compartment with 2 small drawers. There is a board that runs the length of the case just under the inkwell and pen holder section. The secret compartment board still in place and you Just push down on right side and it springs out. Amazing that it is all there and still works. All still there behind the secret panel and there are white bone knobs on each drawer. My guess is this pieces dates to the early to ... moremid 1800s. You be the judge before buying. This lap desk is beautiful with only small surface scratches. The corners have brass corner pieces. One of the leather pieces needs re gueing but i am leaving that too the new owner. Very nice wood and graining. The inside folding pieces are still all there as well. The lock and latch is there and comes with a key that operates the lock. That does not happen very often with a piece of this one's age anymore. The top of the desk has leather dark material on it which is hard and shows some wear. Both sides of the lap desk open for storage. Has open areas for two ink bottles in the well areas. One on the left and one on the right. Very RARE that both ink wells are with the piece obviously one had red ink and the other black. And a storage area for the pens that has a wood cover. Two other storage areas between the pen area and ink holder, The brass top piece is in place, cannot see any engraving on it and the brass piece around the lock keyhole is also in place.
