The piece ... moremeasures 84 inches tall by 37 inches wide by 18 inches deep. And consists of 2 pieces. A top and a lower slant front desk section. The upper portion has 2 distressed mirrored doors that are backed by scenic decorated paneled backs.please see photos. The doors open up too reveal a spacious fitted interior.with neoclassical decoupage scenes including cherubs. This fitted secretary has a variety of mail slots and several drawers in the interior upper section as well as the lower writing section. The upper interior section has nice distressed paint with gilding etc. The lower desk section is characterized as having a slant front that has 2 slide out rectangular pieces of wood that support the drop front.These must be pulled out manually before lowering the writing plateau. When dropped down another cache of holes and drawers are revealed. Below the writing area are 3 drawers of which the upper is slightly smaller than the lower 2. The sides have great scenic decoupage arrangements that are hand tinted. They involve Cherubs as well as other neoclassical embellishments The whole piece is supported on bracket feet. Please note the finials can be removed and have old floral decoupage. The backside is finished with correct horizontally lined back boards. Shipping can be arranged for buyer or delivered personally. Exquisite antique continental slant or fall front desk. Made with intricate inlaid marquetry featuring striking burl fruitwoods. This small decorative piece was likely intended as a ladies' writing desk. The fall front opens to reveal a writing surface as well as two cubbies, two drawers and a tiny cabinet with door. There are two drawers below the writing surface, each with consecutive concave sections, scrollwork inlay and ornate meta pulls. The bottom portion features a carved skirt and graceful cabriole legs ending in trifid feet. Overall the desk is in good antique condition. With some wear and minor crackling to the surfaces. The key surround at the top of the piece is coming loose and there is a small break behind the front left leg, which is not visible without lying under the desk and does ... morenot seem to affect the sturdiness of this piece. Here is a very well cared for and in mostly original condition with original hardware and original finish and art work of painted cupids and landscapes throughout. And these painted cupids/landscapes are on a slightly raised. Built up surface which, when complimented with the gold paint, sets off well well lit dim or full light. Secretary at one time was modified with two lighting fixtures that are working in the upper section. Lower section was modified, floor has a plywood floor. Small wood loss on knee of leg(pictured) but in general, in outstanding condition for it's age. Unique, lavish embellishments, beautifully conceived and created.
