Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the ... more20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. French Louis XVI Style Bonheur Du Jour 19th Century Antique Cylinder Top Desk
French Louis XVI Style Bonheur Du Jour Antique Writing Desk France c. 1890-1910. Mahogany Veneers with Brass Stringer Inlay Cylindrical Top Desk with Mechanical Movement Item# 120012OWP03 This is a simply gorgeous French Louis XVI style Bonheur Du Jour Cylinder Top Antique Desk. A wonderful visual accomplishment. This desk revives the Napoleonic tastes of the late 18th Century, in every way capturing the Neoclassical taste for clean lines and stoic structure juxtaposed with lavish ornamentation. Mounted with precisely executed brass and bronze hardware and embellishments, the desk is mutually reserved and royal. Crafted almost entirely by hand, this is a stunning and highly complex work, using gorgeous mahogany veneers to cover all visible surfaces of the desk. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower ... moredrawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. Repaired in a few places, surrounded by a pierced brass galler

New York City Circa 1920-40 Item# 130001OTY27 This is a French Louis XVI Style Antique Writing Table or Desk crafted in solid mahogany and mahogany veneers by Jacques Bodart. Inc. The desk retains the original photograph from when it was retailed by Jacques Bodart, Inc. during the first quarter of the 20th Century, noting this as#1681. It is a gorgeous piece, the original gilt highlighted tooled green leather preserved in remarkable condition, framed in well patinated molded mahogany over five drawers. The desk rests over four tapered and stop-fluted legs with square brass caps over each leg and terminating in plain brass capped feet. Jacques Bodart. Inc. crafted very fine reproductions of Louis XVI 18th and 19th Century antique furniture, ... moremarketing these to interior designers and decorators around the country from their showroom in New York City. This is a simply outstanding selection, only more so due to the fine patina and character developed throughout, perfect for home decorators and those passionate about original French designs. Featuring a pierced brass gallery wrapping around shaped marble with turret corners over fluted fruitwood pillars with brass mounts. The drawer has original brass hardware with a strong lock in the middle, the keyhole a four-leaf clover lock guard, limiting the keys that can access the hole- this lock mechanism is mirrored on the drop-lid and on the pair of cabinet doors. The lid drops to reveal six small drawers and a few cubby-holes, all of the drawers hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms bevelled to rabbet into the sides. FABULOUS Louis XV French Marquetry Rosewood Ladies Petite Desk w/ Bronze Mounts
A rare Kidney shaped Louis XV French ladies desk with elevated writing surface. Wonderful rosewood and marquetry top. Fabulous inlay of quill pens, paper scroll, and ink sanders. This is truly a spectacular find! We have never had a finer or daintier desk to offer. It does have some normal wear, tear, and damage. I believe it to be around 1870. The drawer bottom and sides are hand planed and hand dove tailed. The measurements of this little gem are 27.5' wide 17' deep and 30.25' tall. We are selling it as we found it in the attic of a coastal Maine home. More pictures upon request for serious inquiries. We have looked for a signature but have not found one, but i believe this was definitely made by an important cabinet maker.

It features a broad flamed mahogany veneered top over golden oak secondary woods, the top shapely with active movement in the form, projecting over the conforming desk in a gilt brass rounded rim that culminates at each corner in a floral and acanthus inspired mount. Three drawers easily slide in and out of the case, each heavily decorated with a vine-and-acanthus ornamentation framing each element, these flanked by complex pierced acanthus rococo mounts over the cabriole legs that terminate in scrolled sabots. This French Louis XVI Style Ladies Writing Desk features a Cylinder Roll top that functions in conjunction with the opening of the single drawer. This effectively allows you to lock the desk and all contents with a single lock, because with the drawer being locked there is no access to the roll top; with the roll top being closed, the slant front is unable to open and the compartment beneath is sealed. The desk does not come with it's key, though these keys are often not difficult to come by. Retaining a warm cognac-mahogany tone throughout, a patina slowly developing under many layers of wax, the piece is delightful to look upon. A very fine and rare antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak Louis XV style cylinder rolltop lady's writing desk. It is finished on all sides, four cabriole legs, two front drawers with maple interiors. The maple cubbyhole has two flame birch veneered drawers, the interior back also of flame birch veneer. The roll is in working order, with the lock and key(Vetter Desk, Rochester, NY. It measures 3'9" 45" tall by 3'6" 42" wide by 2'6" 30" deep. From the floor to the bottom front drawers measures 24-1/2y" tall. Excellent condition: original finish, mild soiling on writing surface, no chips, partial tight crack on left side board. This is about the last word on one of these short of a 17th Century Museum collection's piece. This has part of its late 19th century label showing it was made in Paris. This partial label still has identifying features as to its maker but we are buried in new estates. Putting fair prices on everything and vaulting to the next estate. We simply don't have time right now to hit our library. We are sure passionate French antique furniture collectors can identify this label. Getting past that: This desk has very well defined fan carved shells, bust medallions ... moreand just dripping with ormolu. It has a hand tooled leather top. We are sorry and only see now that while reviewing one of our photographic work that the leather top was not cleaned. We can see a faint mark on the leather. No promises we can make that better but were sure we could clean this up much better. It's leather top is nicely varnished so we have to have one of our top people play around with it. For those of you who know us its no surprize we do this in a very big way and we know what we are doing. The desk has fine form standing on well defined cabriolet legs all mounted with ormolu running the the very ends of the legs. One side has two drawers and the partner's side has two faux drawers. This desk is 44" long, 30" wide and 30" tall. Absolutely beautiful in all respects. INCREDIBLE IN BOTH DETAIL AND CONDITION. We are pleased to offer this EXQUISITE. Antique, French, Louis XV, petite(Bonheur du Jour) writing desk/secretary. This is a 2 piece unit, with the hutch sitting freely upon the desk. The pieces are Mahogany or Kingwood and feature intricate, inlaid veneer of Rosewood or Tulipwood. Both pieces feature EXTENSIVE, ORNAMENTAL BRONZE MOUNTS AND TRIM. The detailing on the bronze is quite elaborate, especially the crown on top top of the hutch and the trim around the desk perimeter. The bronze is fashioned into shells and flowers and it is simply superb. There are very large bronze, acanthus leaf mounts on the upper sections of each leg and the feet have bronze mounts as well. The two lower drawers on the hutch feature a rope/twist bronze trim. There are 4 Sevres porcelain plaques/mounts on the unit as well. ... moreThere are large, courting couples" on the hutch door fronts, and floral medallions on the desk front. The doors and desk are locked with the original key present. The hutch has several storage compartments. The desk has partitioned storage as well. The desk has a beautiful leather covered, slide back compartment with extensive gold gilding on the leather perimeter. The interiors of the units are in extremely nice condition and don't appear to have been used much at all. The back of the desk is plain. Not decorated, and the piece is meant to be against a wall. The desk and hutch are in remarkable condition for their age. There is very minor, and very common, aging to the veneer with just a couple of minor nicks on the cabriole legs. There is nothing distracting or severe. The mounts are intact and original to the pieces. This is a very high quality piece with exceptional craftsmanship. I cannot find any manufacturer's marks. The piece is somewhat petite and not overbearing. It is very special. The piece dates the around 1870. When assembled. The unit is 52" tall. The piece is more than impressive, large size, great style, top quality of materials used, and top of the line work! Top surface is covered with light brown/ olive leather. With tooled gold edges(please see the photos) Front of the desk has four drawers, wide center one, two drawers on the left side, and a large one to the left, which appears as two on the left side but it is connected. Inside the right drawer is a secret"safe" compartment with it's own separate lock and key. Each drawer is fitted with it's own antique functioning lock. Drawers are dovetailed beautifully! It is my great pleasure to offer you this one of a kind diamond fresh from Larchmont NY Estate! You have a once in a lifetime chance to own this museum quality. One of a kind antique French 19th century bronze mounted Malachite Bureauplat Desk. Piece is beyond phenomenal, great size, style and quality of materials and work! Desk is made out of different materials. The base is a 19th century wood structure. That was period covered with a thick layer of malachite veneer. The top is an actual marble/ slate slab that was covered with a layer of malachite. All of this beauty was then magnified with miles of highest quality dore bronze ormolu mounts. Front of the desk has three drawers, each with it's own ormolu mounted handle, I beg of you to see the closeup of the photo. Drawers are dovetailed in the back, and secondary wood is the high quality ... moremahogany. Back of the desk looks the same way as the front, just without drawers. Top surface has a bronze band running all around the edges. Stands on four high stylishly curved legs. With bronze running down the entire length, ending in lovely dore bronze paw foot saboe shoes. Legs are done all around. Piece has a spectacular appearance! The desk is in good condition. Minor wear on the from use, a flea bite here and there, but it was taken care of very well by the previous owners. Size is large 50" wide, 26" deep front to back, and 31" in height, with ample legroom height. This is one in a trillion kind of an item, something that truck load of money can't help in getting, just because there isn't any. Super uber RARE, I guarantee you will love it! Very good to excellent condition w/ age-commensurate wear; I try to cover everything in great detail so there are no surprises: part of back right foot has been repaired; not noticeable unless closely scrutinizing. Left front foot also repaired(photo) Neither repair involved or affected the structural integrity or sturdiness of the piece whatsoever; were cosmetic only. And quite tough to spot unless you looking for it. Bottom left drawer handle is missing(escutcheon still there) but a replacement of this age/patina can probably readily be located.
