Beautiful German Oak desk with Barley Twist columns on front. Desk sits on bun feet. All original hardware, all doors and drawers lock, and desk comes with original key. Back is finished so desk can float in a room. Leather is marked, has water stains, can be easily removed to have recovered. Board comes out, leather can be replaced, and just place it back in the desk. Can be used as is, is in good condition, no tears or cuts, just stains. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. This table measures 49 inches in diameter and 30 inches to top. The apron is also carved having small rosettes all the way around. A single barley twist pedestal supports four beautifully carved legs. The table is very solid and heavy weighing about 80 bounds. The only apologies are two edging cracks that have been repaired, possibly to shrinkage since they seem to be in the same spot on each side. This is a stunning 19th century trestle table.perfect as a console table or writing desk. It has the most wonderful details- massive pierce carved"jewelry" all along the trestle piece. Barley twist everywhere.It measures 42 1/2" side to side x 27 1/2" front to back x 31" high- a lovely size for a variety of uses.
