Made from mahogany and walnut. The secretary is solid and strong with no loose joints. Sits on large ball and claw feet, 3 bottom serpentine drawers with decorative brass pull handles, drop front desk with six pigeon holes and a small drawer and storage above the small drawer. Hutch has two doors with glass and decorative detail and 2 shelves. There is no breaks, chips or cracks to the glass. Comes with the original key to lock the top and bottom. This is a one piece secretary and measures 78" tall counting the finale, 30 1/2" wide and 17" deep. There is some lacquer loss on the finial and a small amount on the doors. Overall great condition. Only part of the paper tag is on the back so maker is unknown. As with all antiques including vintage or used items expect to find some signs of wear, use, nicks, rubs or scratches and age wear to finish that is common to all antiques due to age and use. You will need to make your own shipping arrangements with a shipper of your choice or(PICK UP IS ALWAYS WELCOME. Description: This listing is for a ... moreChippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

19th Century Solid Mahogany Bench Made Partner's Desk W/Ornate Details Ball/Claw
A beautiful antique desk! This is a solid mahogany partner's desk that dates to the second half of the 19th Century. We do not know the maker or the region of origin. This piece is bench made and hand carved. The desk measures as follows: width = 50 1/8" depth = 27.75" height = 30 3/8" height to bottom edge at center of kneehole = 23" height to bottom edge of trim at kneehole = 22" The top of the desk has carved designs in all four corners. The edge has an ornate dental mold style trim all the way around. The secondary woods are also mahogany and the drawers have champhored bottoms and dove tails in the front and back. This piece was refinished some time in the early 20th century. There is an area on the top that is sun bleached on one of the ends as well as one of the legs. This same leg has a repair on it as ... morewell. Two of the legs have been repaired on this piece. They appear to be professional repairs. One of them has a very slight movement to it but the desk remains solid and sturdy. This is th eleg that has sun fade on it. The four legs have a beautiful carved design running vertically that ends just above the ball& claw foot. The knee hole has corner mounted pieces that are carved as well. There are age and use appropriate scratche and dings as well. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. Please view photos carefully and feel free to ask questions. It is 38 inches wide x 19 deep x 42 high. It has some repair, been re-glued on left side at back, and on the inside of lid at hinge. It also has a loose piece on the top right corner of lid, otherwise good used original condition, and finish, as pictured. Antique American 19th / 20th C Chippendale Ball & Claw Mahogany SLANT FRONT DESK
Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. Desk interior features four drawers, four upright drawers and another four cubbyhole compartments. Outside there is one wide center drawer, with two additional ones. It is in good. The Secretary measures 45 inches high to the top of the gallery. 20 inches deep and 34 inches deep with the secretary door opened and 39 inches wide it is in great condition and very rich looking.There is a brass gallery and polished hardware just outstanding. The case is in mahogany with GRANDIOSE carvings adorned through out the Desk. The interior of the Secretary has mahogany doors and drawers.
