Condition: Unspecified Location: Napoleon, United States Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. This antique desk features it’s original finish and a has a spindle gallery back that has one turn mini post missing. It has a big carved lion faces laughing with fangs and carving on the breadboard bevel edge slant lid. The drawer fronts are block front and have real true clam shell carving. This was no doubt a custom made piece with rope molding going down each post, rope braided along the base and detail ball and claw feet.

Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today what I believe to be a bench made custom solid tiger sawn oak Chippendale raised panel all the way around cabriole ... moreleg flat top desk that dates from the 1890's. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. It has all of the striking features of a top of the line roll top desk or curtain desks as they were called back in the day. This desk is top quality solid quartersawn oak with beautiful woodgrain patterns and patina and may possibly be a Stickley Brandt based on photos of their desks which were being produced in the late 1800's from the book"Furniture Made in America by E& R Dubrow" It is very similar to their top of the line model with the shell carved handles and quartersawn oak paneled sides and rear. The fitted interior is fabulous with lots of drawers with the original small wooden knobs. for auction is a wonderful solid quartersawn oak roll top desk. this desk has no veneers and the quartersawn oak flake is as good as i have ever seen or owned. an old man. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

Richly hand carved about 1880 in the Renaissance manner this secretary desk from England has the original finish and hammered brass hardware. Lively carving depicts heads of knights in armor. A face and a griffin. The old finish is well preserved with warm patina and various shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Waxed and buffed. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The drop front rests on pull out supports, the lock works but doesn't latch. 1890'S Double Sided Lady's Decorative Writing Desk Hand Carved Quarter Sawn Oak
Congratulations! You are bidding on a gorgeous 1890's Double Sided False Front Victorian Lady's Decorative Writing Desk with chair. The Desk is solid quarter sawn Oak with hand carved columns on the corners and leg opening. Hand carved"rope" decorative edge on the top and highly carved decorative legs with wooden ball and claw feet. The desk has all the original pulls. The contruction is of solid oak, dove-tailed corners on all the drawers. One of the drawers has had the bottom replaced with slats of wood(see pics) otherwise each drawer bottom is constructed of one piece of wood. Also, there is a split in the wood of the top of the desk. The split is approximately 1mm in width(very small) and I could not get it to show up on pictures accurately. The desk has been lovingly restored using an oak stain and a polyeurothane sating ... morefinish so that it will be hardy enough to stand up to daily use. As mentioned above the desk is double sided with a false front that draws attention to the unique hand-carved details of this beautiful piece. This is a smaller victorian desk that would make a great statement in any home. The chair has not been restored and has the original dark finish on it. Measurements: 54 inches long by 29 inches wide x 30 inches tall including height of casters NOTE: This desk is heavy being of solid oak and even though it is small for the make and time period it will NOT fit in a car or mini-van or SUV. I am selling one of my family heirlooms. It has been in the family over 70 years. I am not sure of its origin or maker. It is heavily carved all over in great detail. It is gorgeous. A fire destroyed the plant and all of its finished stock one year after forming. Mr. Shattuck withdrew his support after this loss and outside interests gained control of the company. Mr. Marble stayed with the company and directed its manufacturing operations until 1895. Another fire in April 1897 is mentioned. The New Register April 8, 1897 issue has a front-page article"A Midnight Blaze" talking about this fire. The paper said it was the work of arsonists and threw 40 men out of work. Despite the seriousness of the fire, the news article ends with"Mr. Charles Klinger was absent on a fishing trip to Castalia when the factory burned. His enforced return was undoubtedly a decided relief to the trout in that locality. Mr. Marble left the company. This is certainly the absolute best quartered quarter sawn oak desk I have ever offered for sale in my near 40 years in the antiques business. I would call this American desk Arts and Crafts style or possibly Aesthetic Revival. Dating from circa 1895 it is of the very highest quality. Some description but please look at the photos to have a better feel for this piece. The stepped rounded corner top over one foliate frieze drawer. Flanked by double pedestals, one with a paneled cupboard door and one with three drawers, the other side of like configuration, to paw feet, with very unusual applied tapered columns at the sides. This desk has the original unusual solid brass hardware and is all hand carved, not machine. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth authentic finish. The case has raised panels all around. The desk can be taken apart for easier handling and shipping. It measures 50-1/2" tall by 55" wide by 36" deep. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. No Reserve! Up for auction is a late 19th C. French Victorian carved Oak Desk/Table. This is a very Ornate desk with incredible detailed carvings throughout. It has mythical Sea Creature's for Feet, they are winged Dolphin Griffins and there are Lion masks on each corner with a metal ring thru the mouth and a beautiful Arch design with Gothic Drop finals. The desk measures about 31" High x 38 1/2" Wide x 23" Deep and has one drawer. Making it the perfect size for entryway or any room in the house. It is in good condition with the original finish showing some minor rub wear and finish loss.
