Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. The reverse has 9 dummy drawers which make the desk appear identical from both sides and it is perfect for sitting centrally in a room with the back on display. The desk has a number of very fine quality ... moredetails including hand carved panels at each flank and either side of the kneehole. The upper panels with etched back and crossed oak leaves on twisted branches and the lower panels of trailed ivy wrapped with ribbon. The upper drawers and side panels are dressed with thickly cut and beautifully flamed mahogany. The overhung rounded top is inset with an olive green leather in very good condition with gold tooled and embossed edge detail and gold leaves to each corner. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have good strong interiors with dovetailed joints. The escutcheons are original throughout. The desk dismantles into three sections- two pedestals and top and has an unusual mechanism whereby the top slots down into the pedestals and wraps around the front- so that it looks very much as though it is made in one piece when all together. Condition: there are minor dings and veneer repairs here and there to the working drawers and some very fine and old grain cracks which are stable and not going anywhere. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. This desk is top quality solid quartersawn oak with beautiful woodgrain patterns and patina and may possibly be a Stickley Brandt based on photos of their desks which were being produced in the late 1800's from the book"Furniture Made in America by E& R Dubrow" It is very similar to their top of the line model with the shell carved handles and quartersawn oak paneled sides and rear. The fitted interior is fabulous with lots of drawers with the original small wooden knobs. A few of knobs are are chipped but all drawers and pulls are present and original which is very difficult to find! Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

T he desk measures 52" high x 34" width x 21" depth. This is Italian workmanship from the old days that can not be found in modern times. CUPID measuring 9" height and 6" at the widest part attached to the top that covers the compartment where the clock sits. Very good aged condition. CLOCK T he clock has 3 different hand designs and incased in bronze? solid brass. The face is a natural cream ivory? porcelain with black Roman numerals. The face is aged with some hairlines but the numerals are bold without any color loss. The clock has 2 front legs and a weighted bronze pendulum that you can view from the photo. It does move side to side and I hear ticking but is in need of adjusting. The clock is original and fits perfect to view from a circular opening made for it

It comes with its own antique skeleton key stamped Germany on it to use to open all brass locking drawers and cabinet door. 1890'S Double Sided Lady's Decorative Writing Desk Hand Carved Quarter Sawn Oak
Congratulations! You are bidding on a gorgeous 1890's Double Sided False Front Victorian Lady's Decorative Writing Desk with chair. The Desk is solid quarter sawn Oak with hand carved columns on the corners and leg opening. Hand carved"rope" decorative edge on the top and highly carved decorative legs with wooden ball and claw feet. The desk has all the original pulls. The contruction is of solid oak, dove-tailed corners on all the drawers. One of the drawers has had the bottom replaced with slats of wood(see pics) otherwise each drawer bottom is constructed of one piece of wood. Also, there is a split in the wood of the top of the desk. The split is approximately 1mm in width(very small) and I could not get it to show up on pictures accurately. The desk has been lovingly restored using an oak stain and a polyeurothane sating ... morefinish so that it will be hardy enough to stand up to daily use. As mentioned above the desk is double sided with a false front that draws attention to the unique hand-carved details of this beautiful piece. Very unusual carved desk with drawers and storage. The wood appears to be dark stained Walnut. The desk is 25 inches wide. 11 1/2 inches deep and 12 1/2 inches tall. The piece was made in the late 1800's and would be ideal for a computer table or as an office cabinet to store important data. There are three 7 inch wide drawers on the left side with a full 22 inch wide top drawer. On the right side is a 7 x 7 door to a storage area. Under this is another 7 inch wide drawer. The center opening is partitioned to take stationary and accessories. Really nice, usable old piece. It is obvious the desk has been used a lot through the years. The top shows quite a bit of staining from ink. Etc. Structurally the piece is strong and secure. On the door panel on right side there is a chipping around the knob. The cast iron legs have a neat Victorian Scroll design and are marked Buffalo New York and with the number 3 and three patent dates from 1881. 1890 and 1897. The piece oozes nostalgia with wood that has a great. Rich patina. Among the carved names are"Joyce" and"Jack" and other pictures. Including something that looks like a flower. That dates from the 1880 era. ... moreIt has been completely stripped, re-glued, refinished, the canvas roll has been all re-canvassed, and we had to re-fabricate one handle(bet you can’t tell which one when you see the desk! Any molding damaged was replaced, any panels that were damaged were replaced, any wood damaged or ink-stained was replaced– we do one heck of a job when we go through a desk! The interior has burl walnut pencil trays and cubby drawers, and the original letter holders on both sides of the desk. We’ve even replaced the felt insert with the original factory dark green color. It has an applied beveled edge base, and a finished off back. We always put a reproduction roll-top lock in, which will be done before shipping. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 36 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface from the floor, and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. The lock mechanism prevents the drawers from opening when the roll-top is down. Eastlake 1880 Antique Cherry Desk. Carved Pulls. This late Victorian or Eastlake period desk is from about 1880. It is solid cherry and birch with a superb finish on beautiful curly grain. Deep side drawers have round or pin and cove dovetail joints of the era plus original carved pulls. There was no center drawer originally. So a replacement was installed. Sides are paneled on this American made antique furniture. Size is 54" long. 34" deep, 30" tall and the kneehole is 25" wide and 27" tall. Item# K-D2708. Store Information. Carved of solid oak in the 1890's this substantial Renaissance manner carved oak 1890's antique library table or writing desk has expert detailing. The top has been revarnished for durability on this historic furniture from Scandinavia. The base retains its original finish that is very well preserved- waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm antique patina. Boldly scaled. The trestle base is tight and secure. We see an early transitioning influence into the arts& crafts movement in it. We are of the opinion this piece is made from Cyprus(its an extremely hard word& seeing the technique used in formed pieces its strong evidence) and see influences suggesting it is a Southern US regionally made piece having a nexus in tramp arts. This is one of the most unique wall desks we have ever encountered. Its construction is of the highest quality and it is a substantial piece. It has carved sides with a wonderfully artisan carved front lid containing a mixture of geometric& arts& crafts influenced ... morecarving. Its center motif is a large fan carving that is impressive. Its top is outfitted with compass formed corners that are designed for Hurricane lamps to be placed on. It has an Eastlake period door latching system that was added later with the original lock still being in place. We did not get a key. Its a simple lock that can be re-keyed for $20. If its more than that your in the wrong locksmith's shop. The unfinished sections of this piece had some type of finish on it at some point in its life. The sides are still in a light ebonized finish. This is how the gentleman purchased it and it looks fantastic. We are just giving you all the facts but we do not consider this a cost debate. We paid very fairly for it and we are asking a fair price for one of the very best decorative wall desks you will see for many years to come if ever. Its base is made from 17 pieces gracefully inverted pieces of hard wood with a picket fence type cap on each of these spokes. The craftsmanship that went into to making this piece is impressive and it makes a huge presence wherever you ultimately use it. Great for any number of uses and especially for a super pantry/kitchen spice cabinet
