Antique Wooden Slant Top Desk w/2 Inside Drawers
This antique wooden slant top desk opens up to reveal a storage area divided into compartments in the back. Two of which have drawers in them. The desk measures 33” wide. 23” deep and is 30 1/2” high in the front and 38 1/2” high in the back, including the back panel. It has a keyhole and some metal hardware inside but there is no key and the lid does not latch down. This desk most likely originated in the South. I do not know the age of the piece but would guess late 1800s? The inside compartments and drawers may have been added at a later date. It is not pine or oak but otherwise I am not sure what kind of wood it is made from. The outside has been stained at some point but the inside shows how light-colored the wood was originally. The piece is very sturdy and is in good condition. The finish shows its age. There are some minor scratches, ... morescuffs, etc. There are a couple of small age cracks in the lid. Nice Antique Circa late 1800's walnut slanted lap desk/writing cabinet. Brass hinged cover flips open to a removable felt writing surface with storage for documents and paper underneath. Two individual inkwell compartments are separated by a long compartment that stores pens and other writing materials. It is removable and does need some reinforcement(gluing) One glass inkwell remains. Very good condition with a minor crack in wood where it meets the left corner. The underside panel has separated but is still intact to piece. Lock and key still work well but need some adjusting to make it lock. This desk was painted more than 40 years ago. Not a faux paint job. The colors are ivory(creamy) and the stencil work is in a brown and white. The age showing is natural not intentionally painted. Measuring 25 1/2 inches tall, 21 1/4 inches wide, 26 inches deep from the back to front with the seat down. The seat is 14 inches from the floor. All measurements are including the wooden planks attached to the iron legs. The seat folds up to save a little space. Please ask any questions prior to purchase. For BID or BUY IT NOW I have a LAP BOX SLANT DESK measures(when closed) 8'x11"x3.5" At some point the desk has been"restored" but needs to be professionally restored by a woodworker- this is a terrific find and a wonderful way to own such a terrific piece of history! This is so everyone has a chance to bid- it is no reflection of the items condition which is sturdy, the bottom and sides are very solid and the inside is also very solid- which for it's age is unusual- this may have been updated as it is not felt but an upgrade to velvet The lock is intact but I do not have a key- at some point a clasp was added to keep the box closed. ANTIQUE WRITING DESK– NO RESERVE Acquired at an estate sale in Virginia is this antique wood folding lap writing desk. Unknown type of wood- does have a cedar smell on the inside. Inside in many areas written in pencil is dated information from the 1800’s. Some of the writing with signatures is faded and difficult to read. Some the years can be read are“June 1894” 465 letters” March 15& 16 1895” March( 17, 1877” and“July( 18, 1875” There is no structural damage to the box. There are no apparent breaks or repairs. Hinges are securely in place. Closed the desk measures 3 ¾ inches tall. 11 ¼ inches long and 7 ¾ inches wide. Open the desk measures 15-3/4 inches long. 11-1/4 inches wide and 1-1/4 inches to 2-1/2 inches tall(slopes up) Writing area has ink stains and is loose in one area– see photos. Glass inkwell without cap ... moreis included. Two pencils are also included. When the desk is closed the top has some marks/stains– I have not tried to clean these marks/stains. Key is included; unknown if this is the actual or original key. The key does work but at times it is difficult to unlock– I would not recommend locking the desk. antique school desk cast iron 1800's JM Sauders 1850 wooden vintage bench #2
This is a antique school bench for a desk. It has ornate cast iron on both sides and is marked JM Sauders#2 Pat dec 1850. The bench is 30" high x 12" wide( bench seat) x 23.5" long. There are two spots on cast iron on very bottom were pieces are broken. The wood does have some carvings on it from kids in school. The wood is beautiful and this makes a great decorative item. Antique Travel Walnut ? Wooden Writing Lap Field Stationary Portable Desk Box
Antique Portable Travel Writing Lap Desk with bun feet. This piece was purchased at an estate sale in the Washington DC area. Desk measures approx. 17" long x 9 deep x 14" tall. There are several compartments and drawers. The drawers are all hand dovetailed. Front and back sides. There are the 2 hidden compartments that come out, but look as though they are stationery columns. My guess is that the brass hardware is original. The finish may not be original. The wood may be walnut, not sure though. There are some nicks, surface scratches and signs of aging, all of which I consider age appropriate wear. A little bit of veneer damage, some stress cracks(some are natural in the wood) and inside has some slight warping. There is no key. I love this piece but have nowhere to display it in my home.
