The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today what I believe to be a bench made custom solid tiger sawn oak Chippendale raised panel all the way around cabriole ... moreleg flat top desk that dates from the 1890's. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

It is an unusual desk with drawers opening on both sides and one door on both sides. Each side has a center drawer, a right-hand drawer, and a right-hand door. The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. The overall size is 52 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 30 inches high.

Tall Antique Victorian Oak Cylinder Desk Carved Secretary Glass Front Shelves
Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. for auction is a wonderful solid quartersawn oak roll top desk. this desk has no veneers and the quartersawn oak flake is as good as i have ever seen or owned. an old man. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

The top has been revarnished for durability on this historic furniture from Scandinavia. The base retains its original finish that is very well preserved- waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm antique patina. Boldly scaled. The trestle base is tight and secure. Antique Carved Oak slant top desk dated around 1850
I am selling one of my family heirlooms. It has been in the family over 70 years. I am not sure of its origin or maker. It is heavily carved all over in great detail. It is gorgeous. The only problem I found was one of the hinges is in need of repair. I have tried to take good photos for you to see its condition. There are no visable nicks or pieces missing. C 1690.The figures are wonderfully naive in their carving and characterisation and are very typical of the period. They have great colour/ patination consistent with their age and use. They may have been carved as bespoke figures,but I suspect at some point they were part of the decoration on a larger period piece. They have a real charm and are very decorative. A fire destroyed the plant and all of its finished stock one year after forming. Mr. Shattuck withdrew his support after this loss and outside interests gained control of the company. Mr. Marble stayed with the company and directed its manufacturing operations until 1895. Another fire in April 1897 is mentioned. The New Register April 8, 1897 issue has a front-page article"A Midnight Blaze" talking about this fire. The paper said it was the work of arsonists and threw 40 men out of work. Despite the seriousness of the fire, the news article ends with"Mr. Charles Klinger was absent on a fishing trip to Castalia when the factory burned. His enforced return was undoubtedly a decided relief to the trout in that locality. Mr. Marble left the company. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. A fine antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, quartersawn and plain oak side by side bookcase with secretary drop front desk and drawers. The top is carved with an acanthus leaves finial, and scrolls with profile lion heads. There are two shaped beveled glass mirrors on back board above the bow front glass bookcase door, and the secretary. The bow glass has the original leaded ornament with textured squares. Three original dark stained wood stationary shelves are inside. Door has brass handle and lock. Oak drop front reveals a stained maple cubbyhole. The writing surface is three boards(two vertical shadow impressions where something was removed. It has a lock, no key.The three serpentine drawers have brass pulls, locks, and brass escutcheons, the interiors dark stained maple. Front feet are carved paws. It measures 5'2" 62" ... moretall by 3'5" 41" wide by 16" deep. Up for auction and out of a local Charleston estate is this top shelf solid oak partner's desk which was originally owned by a Charleston. SC area businessman in the mid 1800's and possibly railroad desk based on the paperwork inside. Simple and with incredible attention to detail, this desk has three or four drawers per each side of the two pedestals. In addition, there are the top drawers all the way around(front and back) which are carved with quatrefoils which means"four leaves" in Latin. Quatrefoils are always in the shape of four circles which overlap equally.these are actually a quatrefoil carved on the inside of a carved quatrefoil. The drawer pulls on these are just ... morea carved out area under each drawer and all of them have this wonderful wear only achieved through 160 years plus of use. Each drawer is hand dovetailed and the bottoms are chamfered with the secondary wood of the drawers of oak. The two pedestal cases which hold either three or four drawers are also hand dovetailed.the cases themselves. At some point, the bottom two drawers of one side of each pedestal were professionally joined, literally, which makes these drawers great for legal size paper and folders. Whoever accomplished this did it without compromising the desk in any way. In fact, one is hard pressed to even know that these drawers are joined unless one already knows. The secondary wood is also quartersawn and straight sawn wood. There may be a piece or two of pine.not sure. The tooled leather top may or may not be original.if not, it is an old replacement and tooled with a shell design around the edges. It is black and there are a few scratches but nothing out of the ordinary. The sides are paneled with gorgeous quarter and straight sawn oak.
