It also looks like two of the screws are larger then the others so I assume they are replacements. A beautiful late 18th century to 19th Century original piece.

This fine desk measures 45 1/2 inches in height to the top of the gallery at the back.Height to the top at the front measures 46 inches, with a total width of 48 inches, total depth of 26 inches and this desk weighs approximately 200 lbs. The pull out writing surface measures 41 inches wide by 21 inches deep and height from the floor to the top of the writing surface measures 30 inches. The knee hole height of the desk portion measures 25 1/4 inches and knee-hole width measures 18 3/4 inches. The cylinder portion of this desk raises and lowers very smoothly and has a large brass lock mechanism on the bottom which is marked: Indianapolis Cab. Co Pat. The lock is intact but we do not have the key. The inner desk portion is beautiful maple with a multitude of various sizes of storage drawers and cubbies.The old green felt on the pull out writing surface appears original and does show some wear and some spots. The left offers a stack of four storage drawers with period dove-tailed ends and the original pulls. To the right another drawer is found with a storage cabinet below. The lock is missing from the cabinet door. As you can see in the pictures this desk could easily be in the center of a room for it is as lovely on the back as the front and is finished beautifully all the way around. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think we want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. This is most likely late 18th, early 19th century, but possibly Civil War era. These first started to appear in the last decades of the 18th Century. This particular Desk isn't as ornate as many of the writing desks that I have seen here on ebay. Or online. This one seems to have been made purely for it's practical purpose. It shows it's age. But is still in good solid shape. It does have a few stains though. But. I guess it could possibly be refinished. Antique Eastlake. Victorian office desk, bankers high back swivel& tilting adjustable rocking chair. This chair has had the finish striped. It is unfinished, natual solid walnut, with some burled walnut on the back head rest, Leaf detailing on edges of back. missing the seat pad base. the rocker spring is broken into two pieces but, still able to hold tenson. missing the tilting 3/8" x 5" bolt(sould be easy to fix) that holds the chair& base together. I could say. circa 1880's" but I wouldn't want to sell it short(it could be much older) It's made of solid wood, with flat head screws and square headed bolts. Top measures 42" wide by 31" deep. Dovetail. Tongue and groove, set cross beams under the entire length of the top. Estate sale find. Talked to the owner and it was used as a lectern at the University of Chicago until 1950. He saw a professor getting rid of it. And saved it from the dumpster. It is Stamped" Geol. 2815" in a few places. Underside marked in yellow crayon. Property of Rick Buell" There are some old tacks on the underside. This is a very old drafting ... moretable with tons of character. Unique adjustable mechanism. This is a great old piece with gold painted letters on the top. The lap desk is large and measures 14 1/2" long x 10" wide x 4" deep. The box is in good antique used condition. Every surface shows hand planing marks on this classic and functional furniture. The beautifully figured one-board drop front rests on pull out supports. Lock and key work. Inside are tiny drawers with exquisite dovetail joints and compartments for papers- old India ink stains show this was a working desk. Brasses appear original on lower hand dovetailed drawers with chamfered bottoms. The bottom drawer has a warp, also there are numerous shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Distressed saddle leather in the center panel has an adjustable easel underneath. Drawers and the back of the case are all hand dovetailed. Inner surfaces are hand planed, drawers have oak sides. French Louis XVI Style Bonheur Du Jour Antique Writing Desk France c. 1890-1910. Mahogany Veneers with Brass Stringer Inlay Cylindrical Top Desk with Mechanical Movement Item# 120012OWP03 This is a simply gorgeous French Louis XVI style Bonheur Du Jour Cylinder Top Antique Desk. A wonderful visual accomplishment. This desk revives the Napoleonic tastes of the late 18th Century, in every way capturing the Neoclassical taste for clean lines and stoic structure juxtaposed with lavish ornamentation. Mounted with precisely executed brass and bronze hardware and embellishments, the desk is mutually reserved and royal. Crafted almost entirely by hand, this is a stunning and highly complex work, using gorgeous mahogany veneers to cover all visible surfaces of the desk. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower ... moredrawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. Early Hardwood Personal Writing Desk Mother of Pearl
Here is a great old wooden writing desk that is in real nice condition including a Mother of Pearl inlay on top. The writing desk is quite old as I believe it may be just after the Civil War. You will notice that there is a small portion of finish wood missing from the top edge. That is about all that is gone from this piece. There is a key that still works the lock. The box measures 5 inches tall. 13 1/2 inches long, 8 1/2 inches wide. The original leather is still inside and the compartments are still solid and strong. There are 2 makers labels naming the maker T.Forgie Desk and Dressing Maker British and Foreign Fancy Goods. So this is a British writing desk. The piece is real nice and very clean. This will be a pleasure to own and even get a letter or 2 off.

Very nice early secretary or Butler's Pantry measures approximately 81" H x 43" W x 21" D. Upper cabinet measures 38" W X 40" H x 10.5" D with 3 removable shelves. Bottom cabinet is 40" W x 18" H x 18.5" D with 1 shelf. Top drawer pulls out to reveal felt desk writing section. This section slides back to reveal hidden storage in the drawer. Antique small Captain's or Davenport desk. Mom and Dad collected antiques for decades. Starting in the 1950's, this is from their estate. Dad often would provide cards on some of their antiques. The following is his writeup: Captain's desk. 32" high by 21" wide by 20" deep. Height to writing surface is 27" at front, 29" at back, has 18" wide by 5 1/4" deep raised compartment with hinged lid. Has four drawers, each with two pulls that open on the RH side, false fronts and pulls on LH side, each drawer 11" wide by 4 1/4" high by 16" deep. Has two inside drawers under writing surface. All surfaces except turnings have pecan burled veneer, narrow inlay on top and front, porcelain casters" This desk is in very good to excellent condition for it's age-see pictures. American Chippendale (1910-1920) Ladies Writing Desk and Matching Chair
This American Chippendale Ladies Writing Desk is elegant in every detail. It has North wind Lion motif on all five of the drawer handles and on the sides of the curvilinear legs. The legs extend gracefully down into traditional claw and balls on the floor. Ii is deep relief carved on all surfaces. The upper desk surface has an exquisite mahogany top outlined with an even more beautiful burl mahogany border. There five fitted drawers that open from the front and there are two vanity drawers that open from the top of the desk. There is a curvilinear banded border around the entire top of the desk with extends 1/2” This gorgeous piece was made Circa 1910 to 1920. The desk measures 38” wide by 23” deep X 34.5” tall. Made of rosewood, c. 1830- 1850. The canterbury is larger than most, measuring 24" tall, 26.5" wide, and 17" deep. It retains its original brass wheels. The form is quite unique and ornate, especially compared to the usual Georgian and Regency styles of the 1830s. The piece in excellent condition. With a fine rich rosewood finish. There is one old repair where a circular dowel was added, and another small square area where the wood was repaired. Both of these are insignificant and hard to detect. This side by side has a drop front secretary on one side and a glass door bookcase on the other. There is a bevel mirror at the top of the secretary side. Just below it sits a lamp shelf. When an oil lamp was placed there the mirror would reflect to illuminate a larger area. The mirror appears to be the original; it has some dark spots and discolored areas. There are applied scroll moldings around the mirror and ... morethe moldings on the top of the bookcase side match. The lamp shelf has a ring stain on it as well as some marks and a little discoloration, typical of a piece this old. One of the moldings on the bookcase side is split. The finish is matte and smooth. The feet are carved paw and clay style. The shelves in the bookcase have been replaced with 5 glass shelves that are adjustable. Just below the drop front desk is a drawer and then a door with a lock. I do have the key. This door has a small piece of veneer missing just below the knob in the keyhole area. I do not know the maker or exact date this was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. Measurements are: 72 1/8 inches tall, 38 7/8 inches side to side and 12 7/8 inches front to back. VERY NICE ANTIQUE FOLD OUT WRITING SLOPE/ DESK- LATE 1800's? MAHOGANY? Up for sale is this very nice writing slope. We don't know the age of this item but it looks like it's from the late 1800's. It might be oak or mahogany. But whatever it is it's very nice. It has a little drawer below the writing slope area. The slope folds out and has a leather surface, this may have been replaced at some point. The hinges on the side also don't look original and were probably replaced. You can tell around the hinges where the wood failed and they replaced the hinges. The top flips up too to allow access to the slots for papers and envelopes that is in the back. Behind the writing slope is a wider area to hold other things. We've tried to show how the whole thing works in the first five pictures. The top has a lock but it doesn't ... morehave a key. The drawer has a lock on it and it does have the key as you can see in the pictures. It's very nicely done. The drawer is dovetail mortised on the sides. It's a very nice size and would be fairly portable if you needed it to be. It measures 14.5" W x 9.25" D x 10.25" H. The slope part is 13.75" H by 13.25" W. It weighs 9 lbs. This heavy old oak railroad desk has a hinged. Slant top with storage under lid and book storage in the back with a latch on the door. It was made to be a free-standing desk that could be in the middle of a room or train station rather than against a wall(although I have it against a wall in my home due to space limitations) Top has a pierced decorative piece; also slot for pen and ink wells. Original patina; never refinished. Desk measures 25.5 inches wide x 25.75 inches deep x 36.5 inches ... moretall/high. Great piece of railroad history. Condition: You can see cracks in lid and bottom of drawer along seams of where the wood was glued together at point of construction. Ink stains/spills inside drawer. Lots of wear and scratches on lid surface. Particularly, and if you look close, there are some initials carved here and there on it. I apologize for dust on back shelves. Some stains on the wood. This is a fine empire secretary circa 1840. The front is flamed mahogany that is stunning. The piece has been professionally refinished and is exquisite. The overall heighth is 96 1/2" with the casters which makes it slightly over 8' tall. By removing the casters the height drops to 94 1/4" The piece is in two parts. The top bookcase section is 48 3/4" tall x 46" wide and 13" deep. There are two glass doors that measure 43 1/2" x 23" The top holds three shelves. The lower section stands 47 3/4" high with the casters and 45 3/4" without the casters. The base is 21" deep. There are three small drawers at the top of the lower section followed by the hidden writting space. The writing area is 16 1/2" deep. Below that are two solid doors that measure 20 1/4" x 22" The inside ... moreof the lower doors are hand beveled. The base is finished with a scalloped edge that makes a fine detail. offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, and 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty ... moreof this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

Burled walnut highlights the ebonized wood finish with interior birdseye maple veneer to compliment the design. A very useful piece with the fitted compartments. 4 full size drawers, interiors drawers and a good writing surface if desired. Really a handsome piece of mid 1800's furniture. Not clumsy looking at all. Does show an old refinish and wear. The leather top shows scratches, side door inner panel is wrapped so the door will not close flush, interior hinge is detached, lacks keys, some old nicks, losses and crazing to finish.
