The desk retains the original photograph from when it was retailed by Jacques Bodart, Inc. during the first quarter of the 20th Century, noting this as#1681. It is a gorgeous piece, the original gilt highlighted tooled green leather preserved in remarkable condition, framed in well patinated molded mahogany over five drawers. The desk rests over four tapered and stop-fluted legs with square brass caps over each leg and terminating in plain brass capped feet. Jacques Bodart. Inc. crafted very fine reproductions of Louis XVI 18th and 19th Century antique furniture, marketing these to interior designers and decorators around the country from their showroom in New York City. This is a simply outstanding selection, only more so due to the fine patina and character developed throughout, perfect for home decorators and those passionate about original French designs. Measurements: 55 1/8" wide x 28 1/4" deep x 30" high; wings are 12 3/4" across when fully extended. 21 5/8" deep. Condition Report: Nice patinated and almost certainly original surface. Sunbleached on the front and sides, color well preserved in the back. Very minor dings and abrasions here and there throughout, including minor blemishes and stains to the leather top. No key. Has one pin to hold the white glass shade and is Im pretty sure for a three way bulb. In great shape for age. Very minimal wear of black basicaly in one part that I see. Whole thing measures about 28 inches tall at the loop x 18. On the bottom is a metal plate that does have some rust but it doesnt affect the lamp. The shade is meant to fit perfectly on the white glass shade so it doesnt move. I dont know if it would hold a glass chimney or not but it doesnt look like it was intended for that. I think the hole at the top is to let out the heat. You will love it. It will need to go parcel post due to being oversize and to cut down on shipping cost. Grab it before someone else does. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower ... moredrawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. 19th C French Mahogany Desk w. Red Leather Top
Here is another nice functional piece. This is a Mid 19th Century French Red Leather Top Desk. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Writting surface is covered with red leather, which has darkened with age and has some discoloration that does not take away from it's beauty. Straight tapered legs matching in front and back, all done in herring bone pattern inlay, as well as the rest of the piece. Top has a nice wood quarter inch gallery, that tapers in the front. Each side has candle pullout surface, that is leather covered as well. H eight is 29.5" to the top with 24.5" ample leg room underneath which is often not the case with period desks. Early 19th C French Empire Bronze Mounted Cartonnier Desk w. Leather Top + Clock
Here is another top of the line item carrying a thrift shop price. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. Greatest feature of this desk is in it's inlay which carries many different prescious stones and metals, you will see in the photos(lapis, etc) There are areas of inlay where metal is other than brass, ... moresome silver in nature as well as copper. Also there are small nail heads throughout the piece, giving it an interesting detail. Unusual and great. The gold tooled leather writing surface on the top and the slides is original and has a few marks and scuffs which only serve to add character to this wonderful piece. FABULOUS Louis XV French Marquetry Rosewood Ladies Petite Desk w/ Bronze Mounts
A rare Kidney shaped Louis XV French ladies desk with elevated writing surface. Wonderful rosewood and marquetry top. Fabulous inlay of quill pens, paper scroll, and ink sanders. This is truly a spectacular find! We have never had a finer or daintier desk to offer. It does have some normal wear, tear, and damage. I believe it to be around 1870. The drawer bottom and sides are hand planed and hand dove tailed. The measurements of this little gem are 27.5' wide 17' deep and 30.25' tall. We are selling it as we found it in the attic of a coastal Maine home. More pictures upon request for serious inquiries. We have looked for a signature but have not found one, but i believe this was definitely made by an important cabinet maker.

It features a broad flamed mahogany veneered top over golden oak secondary woods, the top shapely with active movement in the form, projecting over the conforming desk in a gilt brass rounded rim that culminates at each corner in a floral and acanthus inspired mount. It's kingwood. With a tooled leather writing surface, a reeded gilded top edge& crisp ormolu mounts all over. This desk has a wonderful shape all over& looks the same back& front. There is a drawer on the front part with a key, which was working, but for some reason we couldn't open it when we photographed it. We have sent this piece back to our restorer to fix& it will be working fine. The drawer is open now, but my restorer advises ... morenot to lock it, because the lock is too old. We could always have a new key cut for the lock, but it's easy to just open the drawer without a key. I would date this piece to around the 1860-80's period, but it could be much older. Late 19 th-early 20 th Century Louis XV style French Marquetry Cylinder Desk with Bronze Ormolu Beautiful antique French lady’s cylinder desk covered in over 800 separate pieces of rosewood. Satinwood, tulipwood, mahoghany and other rare exotic woods in painstaking inlay. Measures 18 3/8" D x 29 5/8" W x 39 1/2" H. Surface features a basket weave motif with 1”x 1” squares on diagonal. Central medallion contains over 100 insets alone; depicts musical instruments from Renaissance(lute, drum, clarinet, flute and pipes) with ribbon and flowers. Features bronze ormolu: decorative flowers; lock plate and one remaining accent on right front foot. Five drawers(3 outside and 2 inside) sport tiny bronze knobs. Inset pin striping and hand-cut dovetails. Top rolls up to reveal slide-out work surface with original burgundy leather, three ... moredrawers and two cubbyholes. Cabriole legs with tiny feet. Has working lock and key to protect valuables or privacy. Somewhat shabby chic: wormholes; slight damage on sides of top from careless mover’s strap; a few small chips as shown; sliding cover has a sticky spot in its path but does open and shut. Otherwise construction is quite solid and veneer is well attached overall. Antique French Rococo Style Dressing Table/Vanity with Beveled Mirror C1885
This high quality antique French Rococo dressing table is made of walnut which is in superb condition. The beveled mirror and frame are in excellent condition. There are a full width drawer to the front and two small drawers on either side of the mirror frame. There are a few small signs of its age on the table top that are shown in the photos. It is in strong and sturdy condition and the hand carving is not chipped or damaged. It measures 35" wide. 22" deep, 28 1/2" high from floor to table top, and 59 1/2" from the floor to the top of the crest. The front drawer measures 24" wide and 14 1/2" deep. and the two small drawers measure 4 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep. These are inside measurements. I bought this vanity in 1992 at In Days of Old. Surrounded by ¾ inch brass design Hanging brass cascade design from tower Three hand painted drawers below tower Brass decorated inlaid/imbedded on each of the sides of the desk& around tower drawers Roll top up reveals three additional drawers and back indented compartments Hand painted facing on front cover: Hand painted cherubs and portrait of a young woman Front cover opens down showing leather within the wood Below the front cover is another hand painted drawer which opens in one piece using handles on either side.
