I am unsure of the exact age of the desk. It is most likely a 1970's reproduction of an 18th Century Georgian Design. It has beautifully carved ball and claw feet, and chunky cabiole legs that are also carved at the knees. This desk has five (5) substantial drawers with the original brass bail pull handles, and five (5) faux drawer fronts on the back side also with brass bail pull handles. The drawers have dove tail joints. The desk was in front of a window for years, and therefore the finish on the back side is a bit faded.

VERY NICE ANTIQUE FOLD OUT WRITING SLOPE/ DESK- LATE 1800's? MAHOGANY? Up for sale is this very nice writing slope. We don't know the age of this item but it looks like it's from the late 1800's. It might be oak or mahogany. But whatever it is it's very nice. It has a little drawer below the writing slope area. The slope folds out and has a leather surface, this may have been replaced at some point. The hinges on the side also don't look original and were probably replaced. You can tell around the hinges where the wood failed and they replaced the hinges. The top flips up too to allow access to the slots for papers and envelopes that is in the back. Behind the writing slope is a wider area to hold other things. We've tried to show how the whole thing works in the first five pictures. The top has a lock but it doesn't ... morehave a key. The drawer has a lock on it and it does have the key as you can see in the pictures. It's very nicely done. The drawer is dovetail mortised on the sides. It's a very nice size and would be fairly portable if you needed it to be. It measures 14.5" W x 9.25" D x 10.25" H. The slope part is 13.75" H by 13.25" W. It weighs 9 lbs. offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, and 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty ... moreof this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

The desk retains the original photograph from when it was retailed by Jacques Bodart, Inc. during the first quarter of the 20th Century, noting this as#1681. It is a gorgeous piece, the original gilt highlighted tooled green leather preserved in remarkable condition, framed in well patinated molded mahogany over five drawers. The desk rests over four tapered and stop-fluted legs with square brass caps over each leg and terminating in plain brass capped feet. Jacques Bodart. Unusual and Lovely Victorian Partners Mahogany Carved Desk A superior desk in every respect with the classic 9 drawer configuration and original turned bun handles. The reverse has 9 dummy drawers which make the desk appear identical from both sides and it is perfect for sitting centrally in a room with the back on display. The desk has a number of very fine quality ... moredetails including hand carved panels at each flank and either side of the kneehole. The upper panels with etched back and crossed oak leaves on twisted branches and the lower panels of trailed ivy wrapped with ribbon. The upper drawers and side panels are dressed with thickly cut and beautifully flamed mahogany. The overhung rounded top is inset with an olive green leather in very good condition with gold tooled and embossed edge detail and gold leaves to each corner. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have good strong interiors with dovetailed joints. The escutcheons are original throughout. The desk dismantles into three sections- two pedestals and top and has an unusual mechanism whereby the top slots down into the pedestals and wraps around the front- so that it looks very much as though it is made in one piece when all together. Condition: there are minor dings and veneer repairs here and there to the working drawers and some very fine and old grain cracks which are stable and not going anywhere. William IV Petite Leather-Top Mahogany Pedestal Desk- England c1800s An ideal writing desk. It's scale(51w x 29d x 30h) makes this desk perfect to be positioned behind a sofa or in a small study, sitting or bedroom. The back of the desk has plain finished panels so that it can be floated in the room. Separates into three parts(desk top and two pedestals) for easy moving. The top case contains three frieze drawers all with period brass locks and escutcheons(though there is no working key) each pedestal holds an additional three drawers and has plain plinth bases. The hand tooled leather top with gilt detail is surrounded by figured mahogany cross banding. The desk's most endearing feature is the fanciful drawer handles. Hand carved in the shape of ribbons. 19th C French Mahogany Desk w. Red Leather Top
Here is another nice functional piece. This is a Mid 19th Century French Red Leather Top Desk. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Writting surface is covered with red leather, which has darkened with age and has some discoloration that does not take away from it's beauty. Straight tapered legs matching in front and back, all done in herring bone pattern inlay, as well as the rest of the piece. Top has a nice wood quarter inch gallery, that tapers in the front. Each side has candle pullout surface, that is leather covered as well. H eight is 29.5" to the top with 24.5" ample leg room underneath which is often not the case with period desks. Hand Dovetailed drawers and the back is also hand dovetailed in place(pic#12) Nice stepped back lower drawer. 19th Century Solid Mahogany Bench Made Partner's Desk W/Ornate Details Ball/Claw
A beautiful antique desk! This is a solid mahogany partner's desk that dates to the second half of the 19th Century. We do not know the maker or the region of origin. This piece is bench made and hand carved. The desk measures as follows: width = 50 1/8" depth = 27.75" height = 30 3/8" height to bottom edge at center of kneehole = 23" height to bottom edge of trim at kneehole = 22" The top of the desk has carved designs in all four corners. The edge has an ornate dental mold style trim all the way around. The secondary woods are also mahogany and the drawers have champhored bottoms and dove tails in the front and back. This piece was refinished some time in the early 20th century. There is an area on the top that is sun bleached on one of the ends as well as one of the legs. This same leg has a repair on it as ... morewell. Two of the legs have been repaired on this piece. They appear to be professional repairs. One of them has a very slight movement to it but the desk remains solid and sturdy. This is th eleg that has sun fade on it. The four legs have a beautiful carved design running vertically that ends just above the ball& claw foot. The knee hole has corner mounted pieces that are carved as well. Description Antique concierge desk and chair dating from the Victorian period. The desk is made from mahogany and is constructed with dovetail jointing throughout. It has two drawers on the inside with brass lion face ring pulls. On top is a writing slope with sections allocated for ink wells either side of a pen rest section. it is wonderfully simple in style with inlaid string wood banding along the front in the style of Eastlake with tapering legs. Measurements are 36" wide by 18" deep by 18" tall. The chair is made from a walnut which again is Eastlake in style with a woven sampler seat. The mahogany remains as beautiful as ever, with a lovely patina, a rich complexion, and a pronounced grain that are sure to look great in any setting. The desk section actually sits into the frame that holds it up, so movement is incredibly ... moreeasy. The central panel lifts up to reveal a large, interior storage area, while a small drawer on the right opens on the right for even more space. Each of the corners on this lectern features hand-cut dovetails, as does the single drawer; dovetails are unusual on exteriors, even for Victorian period pieces, so this is good sign of high quality. However, this lectern has developed some superficial wood separations in the top; these separations are natural and inevitable for all solid wood furniture, since they are part of the wood's"breathing" process. There is also a general complement of superficial wear marks and scuffs, although the lectern has been refinished recently so the wear doesn't detract from the beauty of this lectern. Overall condition is therefore very good. This lectern contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. The mahogany displays a rich complexion and a highly pronounced grain. Offere d for sale is a Diminutive Mahogany Empire Ladies Desk circa 1840. This wonderful slant front Empire desk features a tooled leather top. Hidden compartment for inks and quills and slide out candle shelves. The top lifts to reveal a storage area with fake drawers with little ivory knobs. A lovely carved molding is around the bottom of the desk. Fully turned columns with carved capitals support the desk. Beautifully carved corner brackets can be found under each corner. Scrolled feet hold cupped rollers, hiding them from view. There are a couple of piece of veneer missing from the feet. Not uncommon for a piece of this age. On the inside there is an age separation in wood, again not uncommon and one candle holder has been replaced, please look closely the photos. These minor apologies, in my opinion, do not detract from the beauty of ... morethe desk.
