Then it goes down into a barley twist post base and a barley twist center cross brace. It is of European origin and dates from the 1880s. We had to make a repair on the bottom of the lid, but it is hardly noticeable. The desk is carved on the sides, base, and every direction you look. It comes with a hand cut dove tail drawer.

It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

The secretary has a mirror, that is on the top at the right side and unbelievably gorgeous carved details and applied accents all throughout. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

The tambour roll opens to expose a cubbyhole and drawer interior with pull out pencil trays. The top is an egg and dart picture frame dentil bookcase top that has one adjustable shelf in the center. This roll-cylinder secretary features a wonderful ... moreheavy carved crest, and dates from the 1880's. It comes with three original shelves that are adjustable behind the wavy glass doors. It has burl walnut panels coming down both sides, heavy crown molded top and a crest with big ball finials on each end. It has a commode base with three drawers and a door. The only thing I don’t like about this cylinder desk is that the finish is light, similar to a cherry, but it is walnut wood. It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

Made in two parts from perfectly matched mahogany and inlaid with boxwood. Spade feet. The top section is 33 inches high to the finial and the bottom section is 40.5 inches high. The total height is 73.5 inches. It is 29.75 inches wide. 16 inches deep, and 30 inches high to the writing surface, which is 21.75 inches deep when open. The lid measures 12 inches when closed. There are eight interior drawers, one door and several ledger compartments. The bottom has three serpentine drawers over three smaller serpentine drawers. The drop front desk brought down automatically advances the lopers to support the desk. There cubbyholes and drawers, with center door doors compartment. The bookcase has fluted pillars, doors include the lock, no key. Lattice doors with a single glass panel. Inside are two stationary mahogany shelves. The crest has a pedestaled flaming urn. This beautiful 19th century Chippendale drop front secretary is in original condition including the knobs and hinges. Drawers have hand cut dovetails. There are many small drawers and 2 file drawers. There are some scuffs and wear due to age but overall the surface is very good. There is a split in the drop front caused by shrinkage of the extra wide board. There are also cracks at the hinges caused by not using the pullout supports. It comprises three independent parts- 1) Moulded cornice with graceful profile accentuated by faux inlaid dentils 2) Two-door book cabinet with intersecting mullions defining nine glass panes each 39”L x 11.25”D x 44.5”H 3) Drop-front desk has 8 letter pidgeonholes and 4 drawers laid out side-by-side. Drawers have beautiful brass pulls. Original leather desktop has embossed border around. The drop front has swan neck brass pulls and plates. Although the righthand pull is missing. The cabinet below has two doors with frame and panel construction. Bracket feet support the whole at bottom. The desk is made of mahogany intricately inlaid ... moreacross cornice. Desk front and lower cabinet doors with ribbons& garlands together with fine trim lines and geometrics. These inlays may be period or may have been added in the later Edwardian(1890-1920) The top of the drop front is trimmed all the way around its perimeter in satin wood. Both right and left sides of the three components display a rectangular accent trim inlay. Desk drop front. And upper and lower cabinet doors have large keyed case locks, which date the desk to the late George III period. Original keys are included. This is a superb example of English cabinet-making art at the highest level. The desk is in very good condition. With few dents. There is a horizontal crack running from the lower right side to about the middle of the desk front(see photo) The brass pull on left side is missing. The wood trim at the top of the lefthand letter pidgeonhole needs re-glueing. Small piece from left foot on side needs re-glueing. Interior desktop leather is original and could stand to be replaced. Monumental Rococo Victorian Transitional Mahogany Carved Butlers Secretary
This is another piece out of my personal stash that I reluctantly need to move. It's a huge desk with so many things going for it. I expect it was made by Mitchell and Rammelsburg even though there is no mark or tag. Very similar in appearance to other examples they made. Is a three piece unit comprising of a base with marble top. Bookcase and crest. All original cleaned finish in superb condition. Tennessee sausage marble tops the base if the butlers desk and bookcase sits above on a step-back. Original wavy seedy glass and crest. Desk needs nothing and is very impressive. It's rare to see a desk like this that is crotch mahogany and not walnut, in this case the mahogany looks better and I'm sure the manufacturer decided that it did too. Divided by a shelf with 12 inches clarance below the shelf and 15 inches clearance above the shelf. This is an Eastlake secretary from the late 1800s. I think. It's solid wood construction, mostly mahogany with walnut burl panels, very tasteful Eastlake geometric details, original wavy glass and beautiful original patina. Three adjustable shelves in the top book case; drop-down writing surface with original felt, two drawers, file bins and pigeon holes; one fixed self in the base. The two locks work with a replacement key, but they are a little sticky, and one of the rosettes that covers the writing panel pivot is missing. Measures: 42 x 85 x 11.5 top, 20 base. Offered here is an excellent antique 19th century English secretary desk. This desk is in very good antique condition. It stands 87" high. Is 44" wide at the widest point and 22" deep. Each side of the base is built with a single 22" mahogany board. The desk features an interior fitted with 6 small drawers, a locking(key included) door interior compartment, and flanking that, 2"hidden" vertical pull out cash and document compartments which are disguised as books. These have actual leather bindings labeled in gold ROWE'S WORKS 1 and ROWE'S WORKS 2. Please see photos. The base houses 4 graduated drawers and the pull outs to support the desk writing surface. This desk is solid and stable. This desk. As is the case with all truly old furniture, does have some condition issues. Constructed out of solid Mahogany from an unknown time and location. Originally purchased as a gift to my Grandmother from her Husband. My Grandfather, many, many years ago. This piece of furniture is in excellent condition and truly is a wonderful looking piece. A simple yet elegant design that easily coordinates well with many different décor styles. Display shelving is showcased by three beautiful glass front cabinets with their original curved glass windows and a gold gilding decorative trim. Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. Cracks or sections of gilding missing. There are a total of three shelves within the display window. Lower portion has pull-out secretary desk that has a working lock and key. Interior of desk area contains an inlaid leather desk pad with gilded(gold) detailing to writing area. Secretary area also holds ... moreone drawer and five shelves to organize your items within. Replaced back feet Sturdy Very good overall condition, This antique bureau desk was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1860. Today the antique mahogany remains as beautiful as ever. With a rich complexion and a striking grain. Satinwood string inlays and flame mahogany crossbanding adorn the fall, providing a lovely contrast. Each drawer features ... morehand-cut dovetails and solid brass pulls(recently replaced) The brass escutcheons. While quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks except on the fall which does lock and includes a key. Each side has a horizontal line where the piece was obviously cut in half to remove from a home and put back together. These lines are purely cosmetic and don’t affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. Inside the bureau desk part is a very nice mahogany work surface that measures 37″ wide x 22″ deep x 31.5″ from the floor. There are three small drawers and eight nooks for storing as well. When closed. The fall does not completely close(there are small gaps on either side) but does lock. All of the drawers open and close easily. You will see from the pictures that they do not close flush to the bureau, as we often see with solid wood antiques. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks throughout and the back feet were also replaced during the previous restoration. Boston, Seymour School, c.1805-10 This secretary has Gothic Arch doors with an interesting central glass door above a prospect door opening to four drawers. This is quite rare. And offers the benefit of the full interior often found in slant lids desks, plus a bookcase above, all in a casepiece of pleasing size. The glass stands out in this piece, as it is all original, and has a good, wavy appeal. There is much attention to detail with a very interesting corner bracket which is contiguous with the apron. The striped mahogany of this secretary is truly magnificent; ... morethe sides, which often are of plainer wood, and the side profile is quite attractive. This piece is in impeccable condition. With no previous breaks or alterations. The color has a pleasing warm, amber glow. The brasses are all original, as are the finials.
