The secretary has a mirror, that is on the top at the right side and unbelievably gorgeous carved details and applied accents all throughout. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. The molding on the double door top is unusual chain style going around both doors. It is a heavy duty solid wood desk. There is a crack in the lid as shown in the photos. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The brass escutcheons, while quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks. Each side has developed a separation in the mahogany as part of the wood's natural aging process; these age separations are purely cosmetic and don't affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. The fall has also become uneven over the years and has sustained some wear to the corners but remains, like the rest of this piece, very sturdy. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks and the back feet were also replaced during the restoration. Overall this antique bureau remains in very good condition and would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection! Mahogany 1890's Secretary Desk& Bookcase. This classic mahogany secretary desk and bookcase is from the 1890's. Mahogany with matched flame grain panels and drawer fronts. The deep lustrous finish is excellent with a few shrinkage separations from age for antique character. The flip open writing surface rests on pull out supports. Large drawers have hand cut dovetails and chamfered bottoms on this hand made furniture from England. Both doors have individual panes of old wavy glass. Shelves adjust by sliding into grooves. Beautifully refinished empire mahogany secretary circa 1860-1880. The secretary is made in two parts for easy transport. The overall measurements are 81 1/2" high(good for 8' ceiling homes) 46" wide at the top crown molding and 44 1/2" wide at the door area, and 18 1/2" deep at the bottom. The top section measures 46" wide and 11" deep. It has two glass doors that are 31 1/2" high and 19 3/4" wide. There is a lock in the top door but I do not have the key. Ther are two fixed shelves for displaying. The bottom section measures 37" high and 39 1/2" wide. The bottom section starts with two small drawers that are 16" wide and 4" high. Salem, c.1780-1800 This secretary is of small scale. Almost diminutive, at 36 inches wide. It is a real treasure that has all the bells and whistles. It has a beautiful inlaid oval in the rather tall pediment and bears its original finals, which are almost always lost. The glass doors have all the old glass and are interesting, as they differ from those usually found with mullions running through to the corner. These are diamond shapes and always were this way, with valanced pigeonholes inside defining the bottom shelf of the interior of the upper case. The drawers are edge inlaid with ... moresatinwood, similar to the inlays at the pediment and oval inlay on the skirt. One almost never sees inlay on the skirt such as this, and that makes this quite a special little gem. Of note, is the rather high step of the leg. It gives a beautifully elegant lift to this piece. While this piece originally shows it had a single knobs on the drawers, it was later embellished with period brass oval handles, of a most sought after style, displaying an eagle clutching arrows and flora. And unique spiral full columns flanking the drawers at the base Circa 1830's. This fine 19th century piece has its original wavy glass and original hardware with all the locks intact but the key just aids in opening the doors at the top and doesn't work the locks. This secretary desk does separate into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. This secretary measures 76 1/2 inches tall.41 3/4 inches wide,24 inches deep at the base, 13 inches deep at the bookcase portion top and weighs approximately 150 lbs. This Empire desk early hand-cut dovetail joinery on the drawer ends and lovely crotch mahogany on the drawer fronts and doors and rests on four large bun feet. The original opalescent glass knobs are just gorgeous and sets of the uniqueness of this wonderful 19th century piece. This secretary is solid and tight. The drawers open and close smoothly. This piece does show some veneer chips and some areas where the veneer has been patched with newer veneer. This is very common in period Empire pieces of this age along with some slight age shrinkage cracks in the veneer. Dating back to 1830-1840 this"Secretary" desk has been lightly refinished. But not altered in any way to preserve all authenticity. Great care was taken to alter nothing on this piece and keep it in its original state. This piece is at least 175 years old and still in magnificent condition! Early 1800's Empire Mahogany Secretary, (attributed to Meeks)
This is a great old early Mahogany Secretary Desk. We did not find a label but based upon form and style we can confidently attribute it to J&J W Meeks of NYC. Circa 1830 to 1840. It has been restored back to pristine condition, note photo of cracks that been repaired and filled. Flame grain figured mahogany veneer is prominent throughout this piece, it is truly beautiful. The drop down down door opens to reveal many compartments and drawers, the lock has been replaced on this door) on the side of the large drawer are these carvings: LP No 17/1803. There is one full length drawer and 3 doors at the bottom, the center door is straight while the one on each side is curved. the locks on these 3 doors have been replaced with new ones and the outside backing has been replaced. We did keep the back so we can include it with the piece if one ... morewould want it put back on, albeit it is in not very good condition and it has shrunk so will be ill fitting, nevertheless, it is available should one want to have it. Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. Slant top desk that has tight brass hinges and longer elaborate hinge guides on each size of the slant plank Lovely inside. With drawers, and scalloped/scrolled cubbies. Four horizontal drawers. Measures approximately 53-1/4" ... morewide. 29"tall at bottom of slant/40" tall, and 19" deep at fold of slanted area, top is 8-1/2" I was just researching the dovetail joints on the 4 large drawers to see if I could better date this desk. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. In amazing original condition, this is a beautiful flame mahogany flip top empire secretary bookcase desk. Look ... moreat the flame mahogany that these cabinet makers used back before the Civil War, and it’s obvious that they were very talented. There is matched flame mahogany veneer across the hand-cut dovetail drawers and the flip down lid. It has the big, wide molded crown molded top, arched gallery center face with flame mahogany all over, and the individually paned doors with some of the original glass still in them, and the double shelf interior. There are two hand cut dovetail drawers underneath the glass doors, and it comes down into a base with a flip-top lid on which we have redone the felt with antique red. The three hand-cut dovetail drawers come down into a scrolled empire legged base. The glass has been replaced in two of the sections for sure, and maybe some other places. You can see some of the triangular points that holds the glass panes in. The cabinet is in great condition, with some wear marks on the sides, and they can be refinished easily. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 34 inches to the cabinet top, and 78 inches to the very top and comes apart in two sections. First. The pictures do not do justice to this beautiful piece of work. It's an Empire period Flame Mahogany Secretary with a 2-Door bookcase above and single drawer below. This piece was estimated to have been made in the middle 1800's and is in remarkable condition. The inside 2 drawers are hand dove-tailed. The bottom wide drawer is hand dove-tailed as well. The bead work along the front doors and along the top is in excellent condition and beautifully done. This great piece of furniture shows signs of age as you can see in the close up picture of the zipper-like crackle in the veneer along the side, but, there is no separation. The desk measures 80" at the peak, is 39" wide and is mounted on 4 turned legs. The depth at the top is 11" and is 18-1/2" for the drawer section. Constructed out of solid Mahogany from an unknown time and location. Originally purchased as a gift to my Grandmother from her Husband. My Grandfather, many, many years ago. This piece of furniture is in excellent condition and truly is a wonderful looking piece. A simple yet elegant design that easily coordinates well with many different décor styles. Display shelving is showcased by three beautiful glass front cabinets with their original curved glass windows and a gold gilding decorative trim. Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. Cracks or sections of gilding missing. There are a total of three shelves within the display window. Lower portion has pull-out secretary desk that has a working lock and key. Interior of desk area contains an inlaid leather desk pad with gilded(gold) detailing to writing area. Secretary area also holds ... moreone drawer and five shelves to organize your items within. Lower section contains 3 deep drawers which measure 28-1/2" across. 6-1/2" deep, 11" wide. Two side cabinets also containing three shelves each. Little to no signs of wear throughout this piece. There is one mark on the right sided cabinet. On the bottom, where it looks to be something bumped into it. It is located in an inconspicuous place and is not deep or attention catching, and most likely can be easily fixed with a touch-up wood stain. I have not attempted it. Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top c1850 Being presented for sale is this Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top and 2 working keys.This fine 19th century piece has its original wavy glass and original hardware with all the locks intact but one of the keys work the lock on the glass doors and one key works the lock on the large drawer at the base. The bookcase top offers three original adjustable shelves that each measure 37 1/2 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches deep and provide a beautiful way to display that book collection or special collectibles. The fold out writing surface has vintage replacement light brown felt and is in very nice condition. This secretary desk does separate into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving.This Empire secretary is solid and ... moretight. The drawers open and close smoothly. This piece does show some very small veneer chips on the top of side moulding on the right side and some areas on the left side moulding shows some age shrinkage( see close up pictures) this is very common in period Empire pieces of this age and does affect the functionality or integrity of this fine piece at all, there is also an old repair by the hinge on the right door at the base which appears solid and tight.Please enlarge and examine the pictures for better detail. Please realize this piece is approximately 160 years old therefore does show signs of usage and wear and is not perfect but is still a fabulous piece with a beautiful presence and a very functional piece of 19th century furniture. A very nice antique. Circa 1880's, mahogany stained maple Empire Revival style secretary bookcase. Two piece construction. The carved paw front feet and carved corner pillars are also of maple. The drawer fronts are birdseye maple veneer. The bookcase has a fine brass eagle on ball, the cornice rosettes and banding of pressed wood. The two doors have beveled glass panels. The book compartment has two long stationary removable stained shelves. The secretary has a drop front with green felt writing surface. Three graduated drawers are below. The brass drawer pulls are Chippendale style. The right loper is warped some and does not fully inset back in. The furniture measures 7' 84" tall by 3'9" 45" wide by 2' 24" deep at paw feet. The tall rectangular form and broken swan’s neck pediment and pierced accents above a fluted and dentillated frieze with two(2) astragal glazed doors below a drop front desk opening to compartmentalized interior over four(4) graduated long drawers, raised on shaped bracket feet. The bookcase measures approximately 95’ high. 41.5’ wide, and 20.5’ deep. It measures 34.5’ deep when the drop is extended. This piece is in good vintage condition with the exception of two(2) cracks on the glass doors, slight scratches, and normal wear consistent with its age. Early 19th Century Mahogany Salesman Sample Of A Secretary Desk
This original Mahogany Salesman Sample is a beauty! The Secretary Sample has 3 drawers. A flip down desk top, two doors, one that has an inside lock. Original brass hardware, as is the fine bronze finial. It measures 273/4" high 12 1/4" wide 7 1/4" deep at base There is very old decorative paper covering the interior woods which we believe is original. A few screws on the hinges do not appear to be original. The upper portion of the top back has been replaced. Any information that may help in better identifying this piece or maker would be greatly appreciated.

1789-1823 ANTIQUE AMERICAN FEDERAL FLAME MAHOGANY SECRETARY BOOKCASE EXCELLENT We rarely characterize one of our antiques as“important. but this truly outstanding approximately 200 year old piece from the American Federal period is the exception. It consists of separate upper and lower cases with a fold over slanted writing surface with the following features& characteristics: The outstanding mahogany finish with crotch mahogany veneer is in excellent condition. Viewed from front or sides. The entire piece has a stunning, rich and warm patina. The upper bookcase and desk features a handsome projecting molded crown/cornice with a flat top. The double glazed panel bookcase doors feature individually paned window glass. All but two of these beautiful old wavy glass panes are original. The two(which were cracked) have been replaced with wavy ... moreold glass of the same period. Three wood shelves. Original to the piece, are fitted inside the bookcase. These. Plus the bottom of the book cabinet provide four display and storage surfaces for books and collectibles. Each of the 3 shelves is 39.25” wide and approximately 7.25” deep. There are two shallow. Aligned drawers immediately beneath the bookcase and above the desk surface. Please note the photo attached showing their hand cut dovetailed joints. The original brass knobs are sized in proportion with the drawers and match the larger version of the same on the lower case drawers. Immediately beneath the two drawers. The surface unfolds to reveal a slanted, hinged fall-front writing surface. Two pull-out. Brass-ringed narrow lopers(wood supports) slide out to secure the desk top when open.
