Originally part of a complete dinner service. The tiny octagonal dish with rounded corners measures 2 7/8" in diameter. The color is a rich sepia brown. Imaginatively stylized. The dish is decorated with a huge assymetrical transfer printed naturalistic Japanesque motif with a wild rose in the center and a geometric half sun rim. The pattern is a beautiful example of the Victorian love of nature and a fantastic token of affection. The pattern name is GARFIELD. Made by Wallis Gimson in the Staffordshire district of England. It is marked with the initials L.S.S. the trademark of Gimson's retailer Levi Strauss& Sons, and a registration number dating the pattern to the year 1885. The dish is clean. This auction is for a matching set of 4 Old Ironstone Polychrome Mulberry Transferware Plates. I am not certain of the exact maker but I believe they date to the late 1800s. They are each marked on the back"Marone Dresden Flowers" and with the number 1955. Which is clearly a pattern number and not a year. These plates are very rare and are especially hard to find in this quantity. If you can find them. It is typically one plate at a time. They measure 8 inches across and each have 12 sides. I believe they would be considered lunch plates. There are no chips or cracks in any of the plates. All the plates have fine. Even crazing as is expected from ironstone of this era. One plate has considerable discoloration. The base transfer images of flowers are in Mulberry or a soft purple. Each plate has splashes of colors- yellow. Red, blue and green- that are hand applied to the under glaze. The hand detailing gives an individual feel to each plate. Although they are from the same pattern and set. A lane with trees, 2 men on horses engaged in conversation. Border is Floral with pastoral picture scenes of a windmill and couple resting. In very good antique condition. With no chips or flakes, no cracks. There are a few faint utensil marks and hard to find crazing on the surface. Thanks to gravity. Welcome to Annsys Place! Here is a wonderful pair of Mulberry Transferware Plates which are done in the Washington Vase Pattern. This pattern was made by Podmore& Walker in England in the 1800's and is so striking with the dark mulberry pattern against the white background. They are a matched pair and are 7 inches in diameter. I find NO cracks or chips on either plate. They are in excellent condition. They are marked on the bottom of each with the pattern name and the maker name. Shipping will be paid by the buyer. I base the shipping charges on the buyer's zip code plus a small fee for insurance. I feel it is terribly important to insure antiques. Here we have a beautiful set of six red or strong pink transferware 8 1/2" plates in the"Gothic Beauties" pattern. Made by the firm of"T.I. Co. in the 1835 period. These plates are transfer marked on the back. They are in mint, unused condition with the only exception being a tiny flake in the white outer rim of one plate. It does not enter the transfer area at all and is virtually invisible unless looked for. This set of six have scalloped rims and bright, shiny glazes. This variation was recently added to the database and the pictures from this auction were used. It is now pattern Canova#25. Each measures 8 3/8" in diameter. This pattern was made by several potters in many variations. Thomas Mayer created this pattern between 1826 and 1838 in the Longport region of Staffordshire. England. It is a classical romantic pattern while the scalloped brim design includes florals, botanicals and picture medallions. This predates ironstone and is a softer, creamier earthenware clay body. Four Antique S H & Sons England Transferware Floral Aesthetic Ironstone Plates
For your consideration today is a set of 4 antique plates produced by S.H. Sons England in the late 1800's. These porcelain plates are in very good condition with wear appropriate to age and usage. All plates have very fine all over crazing in the shiny glaze and some have very minor knife marks- nothing that detracts from these lovely items. Set on a soft white background. The transfer pattern is that of a delicate floral vine with blooms in pastel blue, pink and yellow and the vines in brown and green. This design is very intricate and pretty. There is also a fine edging of goldtone all around the gently scalloped rim of these plates. The goldtone shows minor wear- again this is appropriate to age and light use. All plates are marked with a brown stamp on reverse- the rook-shaped round tower sits under the word'OSBORNE" and ... moreabove'S.H. This wonderful early Victorian aesthetic"Indus" pattern in black transfer features a center design of water fowl and foliage. The border pictures flying birds, foliage and flowers. In the pattern"Nonpareil" This pattern is often found in flow blue but this pair is a very clear rich brown and white, with an Indian influence scene. On the underside of each plate is the manufacturer's stamp and pattern name. One plate, however, has an additional impress mark of an anchor. The plates measure 9 3/8" in diameter. Up for your consideration is a set of eight 9" soup bowls/ plates by John Maddock& Sons. England. A floral motif in russet, navy, green, gold and gilt, knows as the Majestic pattern. Some of the colors and gilding are hand-applied. White ironstone body. The largest plate measures approximately 5 1/4 inches in diameter and is marked on the back"Cyprus" which is the pattern name and is done in a palette of black and white. The smallest plate which is also done in a black/white palette measures approximately 4 inches in diameter and is not marked on the back with the pattern name; however. It has a floral/tree design with an urn in the center. The third plate is approximately 4 5/8 inches in diameter and is done in a brown/cream palette and is marked Tea Drinker, Maestricht. I do not find any chips on any of the plates nor cracks with the exception of a very faint hair line on the back of the largest plate. This does not really detract from the beauty of this plate. The second plate of the same pattern measures about 7 7/8" across. The picture is a country scene of a stone building. Possibly a chapel or chalet. The rims have a pink lustre band which shows some wear to the paint. The picture is in black and gray and very detailed. I see no cracks. Chips or crazing on these plates, just a few light utensil marks. The footed base of the 8 1/4" plate has a few small chips and roughness. Please check all pictures for condition. A pair of J. Clementson"Tessino" blue and white ironstone transfer decorated plates. They each bear a diamond shaped English registry mark. The diamond shaped marks were used from 1842 to 1883. although difficult to make out. The date letter appears to be an E which would date the manufacture to the year 1855. The condition is very good with no chips. Cracks or repairs and just some glaze wear to the high spots of the rim and some light discoloration mostly on the under side near the rim. Antique Plates from Southern Virginia Estate. Circa 1847. Very beautiful. Hand painted, very fragile. These were only used for wall decoration, along with platter shown in main pic) Size is approx 10" These were salvaged from a set that had staples and repairs on every one. These 2 were in the most presentable condition. While at one time they were used for meals. As there are utensil scuffs on the surface, for the last 25 years they were hung on a wall. Both plates are not perfect and have hairline cracks all around the inside middle. Someone has attempted to glue/stabilize these(prior to present owners purchase of these) Pic#2 is the registered mark on back. 2 Adamantine WPC Antique (1888-1893) Plates with Blue Iris Transferware & Gilt
These two plates were made by the Wheeling Pottery Company(Wheeling. West Virginia) between 1888 and 1893. This series, called"Adamantine China" is considered very collectible. The deep blue-violet iris pattern has two dark blue, almost purple flowers, buds and stems. Sponge applied gold decorations and gilt pin-striping. Blue Transferware design. The glaze has an antique patina of crackling. The only flaw I could find was a chip on the underside of one of the plates. I have photographed this chip in the above photographs. The chip is not visible from the front of the plate. These plates are 8 1/4" in diameter. Together they weigh 1 pound and 12 ounces.

c.1850 ALCOCK Ironstone,PRIORY, Transferware,Lidded Bowl.3 Plates Staffordshire
One ten sided covered bowl. 8 3/4 inches at widest, and three plates, approx 8 5/8 inches wide at widest point, 12 sided all. One plate is perfect, two have small bubbles in the bowl part, slight darkening around, supposedly a quick soak in bleach and a dab of epoxy would clear that up, but everything is as found. No rim chips or hairlines on any of them. Covered bowl, note one handle off, 4 very small chips flecs on the side, and some crazing to bottom of bowl. Top has one very small flec off inside, else both pieces are near perfect, no other damage whatsoever. Good old Ironstone, should date to 1850's, as Alcock was only active in this period, and very early 1860's. Heavy, will ship at approx 9 pounds, WELL protected, we take our packing seriously. Which depicts different Romantic Pastoral and Castle Scenes of the Italian Countryside with wide borders in a Victorian Scroll and Grape Cluster design. Although similar patterns, the center images are different on each but the borders are the same. That's how the pattern was designed. The five pieces will display nicely together. These were in my grandmother's china hutch. And they're in great shape for their age! These blue transferware plates measures 10 inches wide. The classic pattern is Washington Vase. The design features a prominent urn in the foreground in a classical garden setting. The surround has scenic reserves separated by linear patterning. Condition is very good. This heavy ironstone plate was made in the Podmore& Walker pottery which operated from 1834 to 1854.
