A Staffordshire Pearlware Soft Paste Hand Painted Plate circa 1830 ~ King's Rose and Oyster Variant Gaudy Dutch ~ 7 3/8" in diameter A finely potted soft paste Staffordshire or Leeds gaudy dutch type plate decorated with a solid pink border with fine drape and the center painted with large red king's rose and yellow flower. The plate itself is in excellent condition. Without any chips cracks or restoration but as you can see there is a good deal of wear to the center rose. If you are artistically inclined, you could touch it in to improve the appearance or just enjoy it as shown, which is still lovely. Thanks for looking. No Reserve! A Staffordshire or Leeds Pearlware Hand Painted Strawberry Plate circa 1810 ~ 11 Round Strawberries& 6 Pink Roses ~ 7 1/2" in diameter A soft paste Staffordshire plate hand painted with a bright red round strawberries and leaves. With full pink roses scattered over thin brick red stripes, tendrils and a pink ribbon. This type of decoration is usually called Strawberry Pearlware. The back is marked with an impressed asterisk. In excellent condition; there are no chips. Cracks, restoration or over painting or touch up. SIZE: The plate is just under 9 inches diameter. It weighs 12 ounces. CONDITION: There are some utensil marks on the surface. And some fine crazing. There is some"crackling" to the glaze on the blue areas- the close up picture of this crackling is of the worst bit. Antique Pearlware plate, brown & white transferware, Chinese scene, pre 1890
Antique pearlware plate with brown and white transfer of a Chinese scene. This 7 1/2" diameter plate is in perfect condition with no chips. Cracks, crazing or discoloration. If you look closely at the design around the rim you will notice that it is not symmetrical. The number of flowers between the leaves and the length of vine varies with each placement of the transfer. The facial expressions of the people in the scene are quite interesting. There is no mark on this plate but it is possibly Creil of France. The lack of identification dates this piece to before 1890 and it is likely early 1800's. This is a beautiful multi-color pearlware Chinoiserie dinner plate that measures 10 1/4" across and was probably made in England. No maker's name appears on the back but there is a number 2 over 6200 toward the top in gold and an embossed E close to the center. The plate is in wonderful condition- no chips or cracks or repairs and only a few tiny utensils marks on the front. The plate weighs about 22 ounces unpacked. Very nice, bright white background with dark blue rim. The coloring on the rim seems also to have crept around to the rim on the plate's underside. See pictures, please. The center is printed in black transferware with a re-rendering of a 1730s Hogarth drawing. It is signed by the engraver T ROBSON in the print. The Hogarth is a political satire showing a politician sitting reading his Gazette. A pursuit which takes up so much of his(tiny brain) that he fails to notice the candle is burning a hole in his hat. The later print from the Hogarth had this poem at the bottom: A politician should(as I have read) Be furnish'd in the first place ... morewith a head. As you can see. England c. 1830 This is a very early miniature toy plate made as part of an early doll's dinner service for child’s play or to accessorize an elegant pre-Victorian dollhouse. The plate measures 2 3/4” in diameter with a flared rim and flat bottom. Printed in a brilliant cobalt blue against a creamware blank, finished with pearlware glaze. The plate is decorated with an overall sheet print of flower sprigs surrounded by a garland rim. The pattern is not found in Doris Lechler’s book English Toy China but it is the identical blank to Rogers' flowing berries(fig. 203) The plate is unmarked but is on a blank commonly attributed to Hackwood and to Rogers. Circa 1840, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The round scalloped rim plate measures 3” across with a flat rimless base. Red transfer printed decoration finished with pearlware glaze, extremely well potted, to the standards usually only seen in full-size Staffordshire table wares. Decorated with exotic Asiatic pheasants or oriental looking birds and a butterfly on tree branches and an abundant bowl of fruit, bordered with contrasting dotted chain border trim. The plate is unmarked. According to Doris Lechler's book English Toy China the pattern name is"Asiatic Birds" which she attributes to ... morethe maker is Charles Meigh. A pearlware pottery. Child's"daisy" plate, by William Smith& Co. of Stockton-on-Tees, dating to 1825-48. The centre has a colour printed scene of a young boy in a rural, village setting. The reverse of the rim has a printed factory mark, and there is also an impressed factory mark- W.S. Co.s Wedgewood. In 1847 Josiah Wedgwood's factory took out an injunction, preventing the factory from using this mark, so this plate must have been made before that date. Measuring 7.25" in diameter and in perfect condition.

This small pearlware plate or dish that has the basket weave molded design with fine molded"fretting" The plates central underglaze blue transfer is that of a floral pattern. The rim is a reticulated design with a blue trim. The plate is marked with an impressed shield mark. With the initials, G. Y. H. on the underside of the dish. There is also a green triangular printed mark that only has one word I can read, DEPOSE" The body of the dish has a blue-green color which is proof that it is an early pearlware body. The shape(with the basketweave border and fretwork) is also called a reticulated rim, it is a copy of the style made popular by Spode' Pearlware of the same time. A beautiful 19th century pink luster dinner plate measuring 9 1/8" in diameter and featuring a central reserve of a black and white cartoon of period figures. This plate shows three men standing around what appears to be a Victorian washing machine. The luster is very nice with polka dots throughout. It is crisply transfer printed in a light blue with a pearlware glaze. The center well of the plate has a tranquil Romantic still life with an abundant basket of peaches grapes and other fruit. The acanthus leaf and seashell border compliments the central motif. The plate has a sideways fracture on the edge at 12 o'clock. No other chips cracks or repairs. Rim wear. Circa 1840, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The round scalloped rim plate measures 3-1/4” across with a flat rimless base. Cobalt blue transfer printed decoration finished with pearlware glaze, extremely well potted, to the standards usually only seen in full-size Staffordshire table wares. Decorated with exotic Asiatic pheasants or oriental looking birds and a butterfly on tree branches and an abundant bowl of fruit, bordered with contrasting dotted bead border trim. The plate is unmarked. According to Doris Lechler's book English Toy China the pattern name is"Asiatic Birds" which she attributes ... moreto the maker is Charles Meigh. A well known pottery maker in the Staffordshire region of England from 1835-1849. We have also seen the pattern attributed to Davenport. The pattern is documented by Lechler as pattern#223. This is a very lovely soft paste porcelain or pearlware 5 1/2" to 5 3/4" child's plate. One of many made in the Staffordshire region of England ca. mid 19th century for children- this one of the Robinson Crusoe theme. This one is detailed both in the embossed designs and the picture. The transferred design is highlighted. Or"bombed" with polychrome paint- green, blue, dark red, and a bit of yellow. Other than pops in the paint(which is normal) and the first few letters uneven, the only flaws are 2 very tiny fleabites on 2 corner edges. I could not get them to show up in pictures. This auction is for a Lovely and Rare Antique Ironstone Pearl Stoneware Flow Mulberry Plate made by Podmore Walker of England c1834. It is in the company's Striking Eagle Pattern. Which depicts two large eagles perched in a tree with a lake and mountains in the background and a floral and Victorian Scroll design border. The plate measures 9 3/4 inches across is in Very Good condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks. There are not even any scratches or utensil marks, which is highly rare. It has fine, even crazing throughout, which adds to the character and authenticity of the piece. Showing a Lady with a falcon and hounds and a serving boy. Probably an illustration from a Sir Walter Scott novel. Circa 1840. Condition: Very good condition except for rim flake on the back at the 8 o'clock position. Overall crazing. Fine form and color. Plate measures 10 1/2 inches wide and weighs 1 lb and 1 oz. History of the pottery The pottery was established in 1801 by John and William Green. Largely producing good quality, mostly cream-coloured, earthenware. The production of porcelain at the factory began in 1810. Potteries in the had been increasing in number throughout the 18th century but English experimentation with porcelain had been concentrated in the south until this point. Although ... morea number of potteries in the vicinity of the Don Pottery began making porcelain shortly afterwards, including the world-famous. Don pottery porcelain which was produced between 1810 and 1830 was of a very high quality and was exported worldwide. Whilst the pottery was initially very successful. Financial problems arose in the 1830s and the Greens were forced to sell the pottery in 1839, when it was purchased by Barker and Sons, who owned the nearby Mexborough Pottery. DESCRIPTION Extra fine little blue transfer on pearlware. What makes this piece outstanding is the impressed mark of Dillwyn and Co. who worked out of Swansea. This is a pretty rare mark which dates the piece right around 1810. This is one of several pieces of fine early English ceramics from a prominent Illinois collection. Description: A lovely little example of early English earthenware. Pearlware plate likely Staffordshire ca 1810. Decorated with a fine polychrome floral(possibly grapevine) border with a pink luster rim. Marked with impressed"3" Just a nice piece and would make a great addition to any early pottery. Creamware soft paste collection. Size: Measures 8" in diameter. Condition: Fair. Staining throughout. Enamel loss, a fine spider crack visible on bottom but not on top. Small chip under rim. IT WAS DESCRIBED AS LEEDS BY THE AUCTIONEER WHEN I BOUGHT THIS AND SEVERAL OTHERS. I HAVE WRITTEN THE NUMBER"7" ON THE FRONT WITH A PENCIL AS I HAVE A TOTAL OF 7 BLUE EDGE PLATES FOR SALE.THIS PLATE MEASURES 8 7/8" ACROSS. THE CONDITION IS FAIR TO GOOD. 800x600 Rare Miniature Historical Childs Dinner Set Plate QUEEN OF SHEBA Minton Staffordshire England c.1830 This is a very scarce dark blue historical toy pie plate or side dish c. 1830. Originally part of the complete dollhouse miniature dinner service. The tiny plate measures 2 3/4" in diameter with a hand cut scalloped rim, impeccably potted and finely transfer printed with pearlware glaze. According to Coysh and Henrywood. This tiny piece of Chinoiserie, with elements of gothic and classical design, depicts a Queen escorted by a blackamoor holding a parasol and 2 children holding her train. Doris Lechler, in her book‘English Toy China’ attributes the pattern to Spode. According to the Transferware Collectors Club and others, it would have been made by Minton. It dates to 1820-1830. Like all known pieces in this pattern, this diminutive ... moreplate is unmarked. The quality of the form and detailing of the image is far superior to what would be expected on this diminutive sized piece. The plate is in great condition. With no cracks, chips, or repairs. Edge wear, consistent with age and prior use. Minor firing imperfections on back side only- glaze pops, ponding- original to the making.
