Reverend and his brother were importers of Dutch Faience ware into France in the mid 1600s. And were later granted a monopoly on the manufacture of faience ware in France. For a neat article on the history of faience ware production in France, please visit this link: These plates are quite old. And are from the 1600s or early 1700s, and are very possibly directly associated with Claude Reverend. They are decorated with very fine, elaborate blue borders with central picture scene. One depicts a humorous picture of a king engaged in a drinking game with two women and a portly man. At their feet, a dog has his head buried ... morein an overturned pot. The scene is beautifully executed and is surrounded with the Latin words: POCVLA Janus AMO REGI APPLVDOQVE BIBENTI ATOVE AMNEN LVSV CONCRETVM ET POLIO CVRSV. We are not sure what this means. The next dish depicts several people before a seated man enjoying a meal. The inscription reads: ALGIDUS EN RECREOR MULTA Februarius OLLA BARBARA LARVATO CELEBRANS CONVIVIA BACCHO, which translates: Bleak and very exhilarating, this February, a charming foreigner celebrating banquets of wine. Each plate is marked on the reverse with a conjoined AR. A typical medieval mark, and very like Claud Reverend's mark. Each plate has a very old piece of paper glued to the reverse as well, with old writing in English language, likely dating from the mid to late 1700s or very early 1800s. Each measures approx. 3 1/2" w/o lid; 5 w lid in place. Diameter is approx. 7" each inc. handles. Included are 8 coordinating service plates by Crown Corning Japan. Extras useful as bread dishes. These measure 9 1/16" in diameter. 5 of the set of tureens have Pierre Deux signature similar to shown. One tureen is blank of signature. I was told they were made in France. These are a set of 3 gorgeous HAND PAINTED beautifully done PORCELAIN PLATES. I am really pretty sure that they are French SARREGUEMINES Faience though unmarked plates. They measure 8 3/4' across each. The artist was truly talented and these are so well done they warrant being considered as ART WORK to be hung and displayed. There aren't any chips. Nicks or cracks. There is some very light wear on the gold trim, but just slight. These plates do have age and where they were removed from the plate mold there is some slight factory flaws, but consistent on all three plates in the same spot and the gold trim was added over it confirming that it was a factory done thing. Wonderful pair of French handpainted rooster cockerel plates that date to the 1870's. They are deep dish plates and the plate hangers are included. One is marked Moulin des Loups& Hamage France and the other is marked Saint-Amand. The roosters and the red rim border are slightly different, but match perfectly. The plates are 10" across and there are no chips or cracks, but there is some loss of paint, some scratches and discoloration, but in remarkable condition for age. Each features the same transfer of a very handsome bunny running through a field with fall colored trees and green grasses. The rim is molded and trimmed in gold. The bottom part of the rim has gold scrolling that frames the center of the plate like a picture frame. Each of these plates are in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks! RARE***10 Antique Gien France Faience Fond Bleu Renaissance dinner plates c1882
Up for Auction. Are these 10 Beautiful 19thC Gien France Faience Fond Bleu Renaissance hand painted 10 3/8" dinner plates. Plates were purchased 11 years ago in Tulsa for $195 each. I'm asking less per plate than what the dessert plates sell for on ebay. Check it out, item 361101720363 Never washed used for display. I have moved and they don’t go well with new home. Plates measure 10 3/8” in diameter. These plates are Cobalt Blue and bright Orangey Yellow. Plates have a banner in Latin. That Reads“AD Finem Fidelis” which means“Faithful to the end” I take it that this is referring to the mother Phoenix or Dragon taking care of her young. Plates are in nice shape considering they were produced 132 years ago. The mark on bottom of plate was used from 1875 till 1935. Then the stamped 0 and Y indicate somewhere between 1878 through 1903. ... moreThen the final clue as to the date is the painted 82, which indicates 1882, which coincides with the mark and the stamped letters. There is some crazing and dark spots on backs of nearly all plates and one has a 1 ½” hairline. I am adding two newer cups and saucers which date somewhere between 1938 and 1960.
