An English Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Black Transferware 10.25" Plate c1830 ~ Hartford Connecticut ~ Job and John Jackson ~ 10 1/4" ... morein diameter A fine historical Staffordshire pearlware plate by Job and John Jackson 1831-1835 with black transferware print of Hartford Connecticut. Marked on the reverse in script with a waving banner with'Jacksons Warranted' inside. Listed as number 373 in Ellouise Larsen'American Views on Historical Staffordshire China, she identifies the central scene as taken from a painting by the great American painter Thomas Cole. The engraving shows the spire of an Episcopal church towering above the city. The state capitol, designed by Bulfinch, is also seen. The is the second view of a state capitol built from Bulfinch's plans to be pictured on china by Jackson, the other being the Boston State House. Historical blue Staffordshire 9 3/4" plate by J. Hall circa 1825. This plate appears to be one of a series of Oriental Scenery plates. Mahomedan Mosque& Tomb is a design of a mosque and tomb with a rider on camel in the foreground. The transfer is of the highest quality with exquisite detail in the flowers. Trees and buildings. There is some browning on the back of the plate but no cracks. A small chip on the rim was repaired some time ago.
