Beautiful Antique 1872 Sevres Porcelain Handpainted Plate Chateau de St. Cloud
I just can't bear to see such a beautiful piece of ceramic art not go to a good home. Even though the condition is bad on this. The painting is really great. Approx. 9 7/8 inches across. It is signed at the bottom of the center painting. I can't make the signature out. The center scene is labeled"Chateau De St. Cloud" The top cartouche is labeled"La Cascade" The one on the lower right is labeled"Le Parc" And the one on the lower left, that has something really weird going on in the middle, is labeled"Le Grand? I can't make out the last word. Marked on the back with a printed"S.72" Which means that this was made in 1872. Or at least the plate was. The painting's signature is followed by a"77" which might well mean that the painting itself was done then. There is also an ... moreincised mark that I can't make out. Looks like some sort of signature though. There is a big chip. Obviously, and the lower left cartouche is really weird- I can't tell just what is going on there, but it shouldn't be. Here's hoping that this damaged beauty finds some love! Not marked. But a friend of mine from England who specializes in this sort of ware was kind enough to inform me that it is Minton. Approx. 9 1/2 inches wide, and 9 1/4 inches top to bottom. The design is painted- probably over a transfer. There is a firing crack, as seen in the last 2 photos. There is some loss to the garland decoration from wear. Hopefully the photos show this as well. Still. A very pretty dish. I guarantee everything that I sell. Satisfaction or a full refund! Sevres 1846 Chateau de StCloud S46 Signed Debrie Portrait Plate – Mm de Lamballe
Here is a beautiful Sevres. Chateau de StCloud, Louis Philippe portrait plate on a scalloped, molded blank. It's marked on the back with the green, oval Sevres mark with S.46. in the center, indicating it was fired in 1846. There are additional Sevres decorator marks on the back, indicating that the plate was decorated in 1846. The plate has a lovely blue outer band along with an extensive gold filigree inside of that. The center of the plate is decorated with a portrait of Madame De Lamballe, better known as Princess Lamballe. She was born Marie-Therese-Louise de Savoie-Carignan in 1749. She was married in 1767 at the age of 18. Her joy was short lived. Her husband died shortly after the marriage and she was one of the victims of the French Revolution, dying in 1792. The plate measures 9 5/8" in diameter and is in excellent condition ... morewith no chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines or repairs. He placed huge orders at Sevres, especially in 1846, so that the manufacture needed years to complete them. Two years later, the King had to resign as the Republic rose again. Sevres has long been considered the most elegant of French porcelain. Having enjoyed a long history of ownership and promotion of its products by French royals. King Louis Philippe(1830-1848) ordered vast quantities of Sevres porcelain for the French palaces and for his personally-owned chateaus. Each piece was marked with the Sevres manufacture date(in this instance, 1846) Louis Philippe's personal monogram and date(again, 1846) and finally the inventory mark from which chateau the piece was manufactured for(here, the Chateau de St Cloud, a gorgeous palace on the outskirts of Paris that was a victim of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War) This plate, measuring 9 5/8" across, is truly lovely, w/ a Fragonard-reminiscent painting of an 18th century couple in the center, beautiful and delicate floral swags against the white background, and ... morean elegant border of gilt edging and a buff color around the rim. The Sevres hallmark, Chateau Des Tuileries, and is signed what looks like Rne Hortensi and also Wright Cyndale& Van Roden Philadelphia. The plate measures 8 7/8" in diameter and is in excellent condition for the age, no chips, cracks or repair. It has scalloped edges and the painting looks perfect. The only thing negative I can say is there is some wear on the rim bottom from sitting. It is a phenomenal piece and is listed in my store.
