Minton Polo Match Cabinet Plate# 2- J E Dean Artist- 1 of 11 I have a set of 11 Minton plates featuring different views of a polo match. There are duplicate views but they are not painted exactly the same. I consider these display or cabinet plates. They are from the early part of the 20th century. I believe there was a black outline of the the polo match horses and riders that was applied to the plate and then the artist completed it. The artist then used their own creativity to finish the background. Even if the horses and riders are finished the same. The sky or background will be different. We will combine shipping on multiple plates. Specifics are: This is my plate#2. There is a basketweave in the white inner rim. There is a stylized blue"wave" design to the outer edge of the rim. It carries a black Minton mark within laurel leaves. It is a newer version of the standard Minton print mark with a different crown and laurel leaves on each side of the globe. This mark was used from 1912 to 1950. Earlier versions of this mark have England below as this plate does. It also carries an impressed mark MINTONS 10- 25 with a small 18 and large 6 above. Rare Bloor— Derby Hand Painted“East Indian Ipomoea” Cabinet Plates This is for two plates. See all pictures. The Derby Porcelain Company is a porcelain manufacturer. Based in Derby, England. The company, particularly known for its high-quality bone china, has produced tableware and ornamental items since approximately 1750. In 1745 André Planché. A Huguenot immigrant from Saxony, settled in Derby, where between 1747 and 1755 he made soft-paste porcelain vases and figurines. At the beginning of 1756 he formed a business partnership with William Duesbury(1725— 1786) a porcelain painter formerly at Chelsea porcelain factory and Longton Hall, and the banker John Heath. This was the foundation of the Derby company, although production at the works at Cockpit Hill, just outside the town, had begun before then, as evidenced by a cream ... moreware jug dated 1750, also in the possession of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Planché disappeared from the scene almost at once, and the business was developed by Duesbury and Heath, and later Duesbury alone. A talented entrepreneur, Duesbury developed a new paste which contained glass frit, soap rock and calcined bone. This enabled the factory to begin producing high-quality tableware. He quickly established Derby as a leading manufacturer of dinner services and figurines by employing the best talents available for modelling and painting. Figure painting was done by Richard Askew, particularly skilled at painting cupids, and James Banford. Zachariah Boreman and John Brewer painted landscapes, still-lifes, and pastorals. Intricate floral patterns were designed and painted by William Billingsley. In 1770. THIS AUCTION IS FOR ONE BEAUTIFUL ZEH. SCHERZER& CO. 9 1/2" CABINET PLATE LAVISHLY DECORATED WITH PINK"MIGNON" BLOOMING ROSES FROM ON A DEEP GREEN BACKGROUND FROM REHAU BAVARIA WITH PLATE HANGER. The outer rim is decorated with a very ornate scrolling and floral gold design. The roses are embellished with raised white paint. This is a stunning display plate any collector would be delighted with. This was manufactured between 1880-1918. The only flaws I saw were a couple of tiny scratches near center. Here for your consideration is a hand painted portrait of Louis XIV of France painted by artist Gueslin. It has faint crazing. Nibbles. Darkened tone on the back, chips on the back rim and minimal loss of blue paint and gilding. The outside edges around the diameter are without any harm. The period portrait itself is in excellent condition and done very well as you can see from the photos. Thick vitreou soft paste porcelain was used for the blank(with raised ribbing and flourishes around the edge) and it is marked on the back.
