Very nice hand painted porcelain plate from Germany. Diameter 9 and 1/8 inches. Age unclear-definitely before 1945 and likely from the late 19th-early 20th century. Shows some kind of game bird(snipe? woodcock? strolling by the banks of a lake. Gold trim. Marked on reverse C.T. Germany with green eagle mark. Apparently indicates Carl Tielsch. Also shows blind incised E2B Excellent used condition. No nicks. Cracks, fleabites. Some wear to gold trim on rim but not bad. No utensil wear, no scratches. From the'net: CT Germany was first part of a mark used by a company in Altwasser. Germany(now part of Walbrzych, Poland) in 1845. The mark was used by Carl Tielsch. The Hutschenreuther firm took over the company in 1918 and continued to use the CT. CT Germany was used by the Hutschenreuther firm even after the Altwasser factory. Oyster plates and shooters are special to me. Why? They are not only lovely and in some cases unique in themselves. But no other pottery conjures up so rapidly the magic of the sea. They call to mind sunshine, seawater, glistening oysters, lemons and heaven. Oysters were so plentiful and available that they could be purchased on the streets. At fine dining establishments, oyster rooms and many other places. Once the speed of transportation increased and better shipping technologies were available, oysters could be shipped to a much wider market of oyster enthusiasts. In fact, oysters became so popular that even special Oyster Parties were held far and wide among the upper and middle classes. Oysters were at the height of their consumption and popularity between 1810 and 1870. They continued to be in great demand and were still widely available ... moreuntil World War I, when their numbers went into steep decline due to over harvesting and the destruction of their natural habitat. Having become a treasured menu item for formal dinners. It naturally became necessary for the well appointed host or hostess to serve oysters on dedicated oyster plates that were specially designed for this purpose. Oysters were served on the half shell on ice, on the half shell without ice and, of course, out of the shell. Oysters were so plentiful and available that they could be purchased on the streets. At fine dining establishments, oyster rooms and many other places. Once the speed of transportation increased and better shipping technologies were available, oysters could be shipped to a much wider market of oyster enthusiasts. In fact, oysters became so popular that even special Oyster Parties were held far and wide among the upper and middle classes. Oysters were at the height of their consumption and popularity between 1810 and 1870. They continued to be in great demand and were still widely available until World War I, when their numbers went into steep decline due to over harvesting and the destruction of their natural habitat. Having become a treasured menu item for formal dinners. This auction is for a set of four antique porcelain plates manufactured by Carl Tielsch in Germany around 1887-1900 according to the mark on the back of each plate. These plates are in excellent condition for their age with some minor wear of the gilding. But no chips, cracks, repairs or hairlines. They are beautifully decorated with a picture of dancing cherubs playing musical instruments in the middle of each plate. Antique C T Carl Tielsch Turkey Oyster Plate Made in Germany
For your consideration is this Beautiful Antique C T(Carl Tielsch) Turkey Oyster Plate. Made in Germany. The plate has 5 wells and is approximately 9" across. It shows the 5 oyster wells along with some mussels in brown netting tied with gold. On the back is a faded blue mark with a faded C T under the mark. There is also another mark in gold that is difficult to read. The plate has no chips or cracks but the gold around the rim is almost worn off. The large mussel has a couple spots where the paint is worn off and 2 of the other mussels have a light surface scratch in the paint. Still, it is a beautiful piece and could possibly be restored to original fairly easily. Two CT Carl Tielsch charger service plates / platters
This is a pair of charger or service plates by Carl Tielsch. One is a lovely white plate decorated with leafy raspberry plants and blossoms and is in very good to excellent condition. It's 12" wide and weighs 2 pounds 3.6 ounces. The back is stamped C.T. Altwasser Silesia. It has several tiny spots(please see photos) and the surface has light wear. The other plate is designed with pink and yellow roses. With a gold floral embossed border. The plate is 12" across and weighs 2 pounds 2.3 ounces and is marked with an eagle emblem and C.T. and is in good condition.There is some fading of the gold; one rose has a scratch and dark spot(please see photos) and the green area has several lighter scratches. Carl Tielsch CT German porcelain 7 luncheon plates double mark 7 1/2 inch
Quality. Antique German porcelain, circa 1895-1900, according to the double maker mark on the bottom. Here are 7 plates dessert, luncheon or salad size, of about 7 1/2 inches across from Carl Tielsch(CT Germany, but now in Poland) The plates have a floral pattern(an old-fashioned rose? and gilding around the edges on white porcelain. They are in antique. Used condition. Two plates have crazing on the underside, and two have rim chips. All have some fading and surface scratches consistent with use and shelf wear over the years. CARL TIELSCH C.T. GERMANY PORCELAIN PORTRAIT SERVING PLATE RARE HALLMARK 1887-89
This lovely portrait plate was originally part of a dessert or dinner set featuring a romantic couple engaged in various different courting scenes. The 8” dinner/dessert plates come up every now and then. But this serving plate/ platter at 9 ¼” diameter is harder to find. It stands 1 ½” tall. It is also extremely heavy for its size. As it needed to be passed around the table. The platter features a central printed(not hand painted) portrait of an 18 th century couple in an outdoor garden setting. The lady looks away. Charmingly bashful although she is smiling, so his advances are obviously most welcome! The portrait is encircled with 2 borders of a printed gold design as well as a floral border which exactly pick up the colors of their clothing. The platter was produced by the firm of Carl Tielsch of Altwasser. Germany and bears ... morethe hallmark of the blue under-glaze eagle, with“Germany” in green printed over the glaze, which is a rare and very difficult combination to find. According to patent information, the mark was first introduced in 1887, and it was used until approximately 1899-1900. There are additional painted mold and decorator marks as shown in the images. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks, hairlines, flakes, crazing or stains. The gold is mostly very strong, and there are only a few very small areas where it has faded. But so slightly that it's not noticeable at all. There are a few very small, negligible scratches from use, but you have to really look for them and they're not at all distracting. Displays wonderfully. Just a really nice plate in great condition to add to your collection. And if you like courting scenes, this one's for you. Pair of German Carl Tielsch C.T. Oyster Plates
Late nineteenth century set of two hand painted. Robins egg blue oyster plates with hand painted gold cross hatching throughout. Five wells. Plate is 9 1/4" The robins egg blue of the glaze on one is slightly lighter than the other and I believe this can be seen in the photos. Some wear on gold at rim. Otherwise in excellent condition. Marks on back of each plate pictured in last two photos. Made in Germany.
