The center cartouches display hummingbird in one and a partridge( in another. This tureen has some wear to the decals around the spoon holder and on some of the corners and does have a line at the spoon cut out as photographed. Such a very very rare piece in overall great vintage condition. The marks on the bottom of the plate include the stamping of RIDGWAYS and DEVONSHIRE(the pattern name) as well as Rd. No. 2302 and a printed 688. The trademark quiver and bow are also printed. The pattern was first introduced in 1884. The design shows the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The Japanesque and Aesthetic Movement influences include the asymmetric design, the decorative geometric border of sunflower motifs as well as central bird motifs. The inner background consists of an overall pattern of tiny repeated floral design. The outer border consists of stylized, geometricized flowers and leaves. ANTIQUE POLYCHROME TRANSFERWARE SOUP BOWL PLATE STAFFORDSHIRE CHINOISERIE MINTON
I am downsizing some of my collections and have decided to sell my VERY RARE ANTIQUE EARLY most likely ENGLISH 1800's POLYCHROME GREEN TRANSFERWARE STAFFORDSHIRE? MINTON? SOFT PASTE CHINOISERIE BUTTERFLY PEONY MOTIF SOUP BOWL PLATE. I have had this for a very long time sitting in my cupboard. So time for someone else to enjoy it! This is an absolutely gorgeous soft paste polychrome soup plate. I have never seen another(except for the one other that I have! This is a dodecahedron or 12 sides shallow soup plate measuring 8 3/4" in diameter. The plate is a rare green blue transfer with p o l y c h r o m e butterfly, peony, rose. Coreopsis, delphinium and assorted leaves and sprays. The colors are gorgeous. Rich and deep, periwinkle blue, antique red and mulberry. There are condition issues. But who cares? You are not going to find another ... moreof these! There is a 2" long very old brown hairline that goes clean through and a very old brown stained 3/4" X 3/4" chip flake on the edge(please see my photos, these condition issues are well documented) The glaze is crackled throughout. There is toning discoloration and little gray mottled stains throughout as well as little old flea bites on the underside"foot" rim. This still has a wonderful antique look and if you love soft paste. This is a must have! The underside is marked with an eagle, cormorant bird or phoenix. Not sure, as well as" PRINCES FEATHER E. CHALINOR" I have always loved this soup plate. Truly hate to part with it but I am in the process of downsizing due to some life changes. Good luck on this wonderful and very very old rare soft paste plate, don't miss out on this! It is just charming with the wonderful feel of a time gone by. 4 Ironstone Polychrome Mulberry Transferware Plates Marone Dresden Flowers 1800s
This auction is for a matching set of 4 Old Ironstone Polychrome Mulberry Transferware Plates. I am not certain of the exact maker but I believe they date to the late 1800s. They are each marked on the back"Marone Dresden Flowers" and with the number 1955. Which is clearly a pattern number and not a year. These plates are very rare and are especially hard to find in this quantity. If you can find them. It is typically one plate at a time. They measure 8 inches across and each have 12 sides. I believe they would be considered lunch plates. There are no chips or cracks in any of the plates. All the plates have fine. Even crazing as is expected from ironstone of this era. One plate is in very good condition without any discoloration. One plate has some discoloration on the back only. One plate has moderate discoloration on the front ... moreand back. One plate has considerable discoloration. The base transfer images of flowers are in Mulberry or a soft purple. Each plate has splashes of colors- yellow. Red, blue and green- that are hand applied to the under glaze. The hand detailing gives an individual feel to each plate. Although they are from the same pattern and set. Antique 1860s English Aesthetic Movement Polychrome Plate England Transferware
Offered for auction is a beautiful example of an 1860's English porcelain or ceramic plate with Aesthetic Movement polychrome decoration. I'm not much of a porcelain expert. But I think this also qualifies as transferware. This plate measures about 10 inches in diameter. The wide border has two spots of embossed/raised flower and leaf decoration on the edge, painted in a dark brown and rust. The entire decoration is just beautiful; be sure to note(I hope you can see this clearly in the photos) the center decoration with the"table" and bowl are painted in a gold/marigold luster paint. The detail of the rocks in the center right is also painted in luster paint. Sorry, I may not be using the right descriptive term, but I'm sure you collectors out there will see just what I'm talking about. Fabulous color scheme. Grand Tour Temple Diana @ Ephesus polychrome transferware Copeland Trivet 1880s
For sale is a round tile trivet made by WT Copeland in the 1900s. This is a poly-chrome or multi-color transferware tile. And much rarer. More common is a single color blue/green trivet. The trivet for sale is in excellent condition. No chips, fissures, etc one minor minute porcelain bubble indentation in the rim, and I had to look for it to find something minor to report. It is slightly in the paint and I surmise it was from the tool that grabed the piece when being made. The tile scene depicts"The Great Temple of Diana At Ephesus" Measuring 6 1/4" in diameter. The Temple of Artemis is located near the modern day Turkish town of Selcuk. Which is located 50 miles south of the Turkish port city of Izmir. Artemis Artemis was the Greek goddess of the hunt. As well as being the twin to Apollo. She also supplanted the Titan Selene as the goddess of the Moon. In Ephesus, the Greeks associated Artemis with pre-Hellenic Cretan goddess images, particularly the image of the snake woman. This is assumed to be so because of the incorporation of many Cretan elements into the design of the statue. One such example is the multitude of breasts sculpted on Artemis’s upper torso. Ladle is in great condition. No chips or cracks. Lid has a large chip on side and 1" crack by ladle opening. Tureen has crack/seperation on one side of one handle and a chip on the same handle. Auction is for(1) Plate. Note: A Very Rare Deep. Dark Purple is used in the polychrome painting. A true dark"Violet" purple in the hand brushed strokes. that's NOT a dark Imari type of blue) But most uncommonly. A true violet purple! So this is a strange piece~ It seems rather primitive in execution overall, ~ yet has a costly form to manufacture. Very fine transfer patterning, and opulent colors used~ albeit by a very young or hurried hand, dear heart!~ What's more, ~~The truly delicate border transfer is laid down in a very soft blue. Except at the"bubbly pools" intermittent along the edge, wherein the"bubbly pools" are laid in violet alongside the blue. ~The scope of these efforts is just amazing to me. When I study it~ Transfer pattern has elements which would have been made popular by the Adams brothers ... moreof leaves. Swags, shell-forms, etc, and the Mustard ochre yellow is used as golden rings entwining the delicate pale transfer. About the border trims~ PLEASE NOTE: I've had this plate for years. In fact, it's from my own 1820's mahogany corner cupboard, where it looks wonderful! but never noticed the BIRD until going through the photos close-up for listing! ~~Very hard to find this magical bird. But he's in there! Approx. 7.25" diameter. 12-Sided Asian Floral with"Waters" in Border transfer So VERY Old. This early plate. presumably made in Staffordshire) is marked"CANTON CHINA" as a tradename. But for what English potter, I have not been able to identify with 100% certainty~ ~~Believed early 1800's Staffordshire by the weight. Feel and decorating as well~ A very pretty piece. This auction is for Lovely Ironstone Polychrome Dinner Plate made by J. Wedgwood of England in the mid 1800s. It is in the company's Beautiful and hard to find Tyrol pattern. Which is a purple or lavender transferware European mountain scene with urns, fences, palaces and flowers. The flowers are hand-colored under the glaze in blue, red, yellow and green. It measures 10 1/2 inches across and Displays Wonderfully. It is in Very Good condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or damage to the plate. I do not even see any utensil marks. It does have fine. Even crazing as expected from ironstone of this era and only adds to the character and authenticity of the piece. There is a small rough spot on the edge at 6 o'clock which I believe was done I the firing process(last photo) and the back has a very faint toning ... moreline. The plate has the Wedgwood ribbon backstamp. J. Wedgwood operated as a potter in Burslem and Tunstall England between 1841 and 1860. Check out my!
