These blue on white plates are in the Spartan pattern. They are English and were made by Podmore Walker& Co. Podmore Walker was active from 1834-1859. The plates depict a lovely old fashioned courting scene in the center with a pretty striped and floral design around the outer border. This is a fine old set of plates. The plates are marked on the back with Pearl Stone Ware. PW&Co, which is the mark of Podmore Walker& Co. and the pattern mark for Spartan. The plates are in good used condition especially considering their age. One has crazing over a large portion of the surface and some of the crazing is slightly discolored; ... morehowever this is minor. Otherwise, there are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, no repairs, and no problems of any kind. The plates are 9 ½ inches in diameter. Good luck and bid with confidence. Small 6" Antique China Plates Transfer Ware 2 Little Girls in Pretty Dresses
Sweet antique china or porcelain plate. This is 6" in diameter and has a transfer ware image of two little girls. These little darlings have pretty dresses on. One with a ruffled collard and a sash with a bow. One little girl has a bouquet of flowers and the other has a bow in her hair. They are in a sisterly embrace. If you look closely, you can see a tiny butterfly to the left. The plate has a raised design along the edge, along with a gold design and gold rim. Greenish color. The delightful matching pair of Blue Transfer soft paste Staffordshire Plates on view here measure 8 ¼ inches in diameter and stands 1 inch from the tabletop. The central motif shows two women in a pastoral setting harvesting seasonal produce accompanied by a child and her dog. Their clothing style is appropriate for the 1820 period. The pattern is called The Gleaners(The Gatherers) The manufacturer of the plates is unknown but could possibly be identified by the pleasing border of flowers. Fruit and foliate scrolls. The condition is pristine. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines and absolutely no repairs or alterations.

Sparks& Ridgway, Bedford Works, Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire had a short history from 1873- 1879. This wonderful early Victorian aesthetic"Indus" pattern in black transfer features a center design of water fowl and foliage. The border pictures flying birds, foliage and flowers. The plate is 10-1/4" in diam. The stamped mark of a ribbon with the pattern name"Indus" above"R.S.R" and below the English registry mark indicating the date of manufacture as June 15, 1877. Bartlett" Chaudiere Bridge" dinner plates. Circa mid 19th century(possibly earlier! NOTE: These plates are accompanied by a vintage hand written note of provenance linking their ownership to Sir William Dawson of Montreal. Canada(a principal of McGill University in the mid 19th century; see photos of note for complete details! too. Set of two(2) Brown Transfer Staffordshire 8 1/4" plates. Aurora by B.H. Co. The scene depicted has definite Asian and classical influence in the landscape and architecture of the buildings. Two women in foreground are seated by the river's edge. The cartouche on the back of the plate includes an eagle, a scroll bearing the name'Aurora" and the initials of the maker: B.H. Co. Beech& Hancock manufactured earthenware in Tunstall from 1851 to 1855. This is an excellent early example of English transferware. Both plates are in fine condition having no chips. Each has a warm, mellow tone with some crazing and one plate has a very fine hairline on the underside about 1/2" in length. It cannot be felt nor does it go through the pottery. Four Vintage English Transfer Ware Aesthetic Design Grill or Divided Plates
These vintage English ironstone divided plates have three large sections and two very small one inch circle sections and they are 11 inches in diameter. The transfer ware aesthetic design includes greens. Pink, deep blue and yellow. There is light overall crazing from age and use on all of the plates, two plates have a very light chip on the edge None of the plates are cracked but one plate has a dark line in the center that shows on both the front and the back but no crack. They are in in very good vintage condition. All four plates are marked" MADE IN ENGLAND" on the back. Please look carefully at the pictures to make your own assessment of their condition. These plates would display very well on a Victorian hutch or shelf. The border on the plates is very reminiscent of Eastlake style. Brown Transfer Staffordshire 9 1/2" plates. Aurora by B.H. Co. The scene depicted has definite Asian and classical influence in the landscape and architecture of the buildings. Two women in foreground are seated by the river's edge. The cartouche on the back of the plate includes an eagle, a scroll bearing the name'Aurora' and the initials of the maker: B.H. Co. Beech& Hancock manufactured earthenware in Tunstall from 1851 to 1855. This is an excellent early example of English transferware. The plate are in good condition: 2 have no chips or cracks, one has a rim chip clearly visible in the photos. They have a mild, warm, mellow tone on the underside and surface. Here is a nice vintage lot of four Powell. Bishop and Stonier transfer ware cake plates. Two are marked P B& S Maiko and also with incised marks. The other three are just marked with incised marks. The plates have raised maybe handpainted details on the fans. One of the plates has some wear to the blue color on the fan. One of the plates has some staining near the fan. All have crazing to the finish. The plates measure about 7 1/4 inches across. I am not a pottery expert so please ask questions before bidding. A nice piece to add to your collection.
