We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this antique English china plate This plate is antique English china transferware made by G.L. Ashworth& Bros. of Hanley. Staffordshire, England, in the late 19th century. The pottery was founded in 1784 and became part of the Wedgwood Group in 1973. Ashworth made earthenware and ironstone. This plate is a 10 7/8 inches in diameter and weighs approximately 1 pound 4 ounces. The plate has a beautiful transfer pattern of flowers in a bowl repeated three times on the top of the plate. There are also an inner and outer rings patterns with a hand painted brown glaze edge trimming. Condition- The plate is in very good condition, there are no flea bites, chips or cracks. There is, however, a good deal of crazing ... morein the clear overglaze. The crazing occurs on both the top and bottom surfaces of this plate. Even with the crazing this is still a very beautiful example of the English pottery of Staffordshire. A very rare. Early Ashworth Bros Hanley plate. Measures 10 and 1/8" across. Flawless. Polychrome transferware. I don't know anything about antique plates, however I spent a great deal of time researching the pattern and mark. The mark is identified as the late 19thC. I wasn't able to find any others listed for sale. I did find a very similar but smaller plate on Replacements for $39.99. The polychrome gives it an amazing color changing effect. The bronze/gilt sections change from gilt to an iridescent, almost blank gilt effect in different lights. See picture#3, perfectly illustrates this. Marked in dark blue on the back. ASHWORTH BROS HANLEY ENGLAND" The number"6372" and letter"H" in red. The letter"F" in blue. To the left above the large blue mark, an embossed numbers and or letters that I ... morecan't make out. Looks like"MXR" See picture#8 for a close up. The blue used for the marks looks very similar to flow blue, as does the dark navy in the pattern.
