Very Charming Old Creil et Montereau Blue & White Plate No 1 Marked HBCM France
Up for auction is this very charming old blue and white plate from France which measures 7 1/2 inches. It is marked HBCM France which was used from 1920 until 1955. According to my research it was made by Creilet Montereau. In case you cannot see it in my picture it is a fishing scene with a man and young boy reeling in a fish and another young boy on the other side of the man. Someone dropped their hat in the water as it is floating beside the fish. I do not know French at all but the top of the plate says CE QU ON N'A PAS ENCORE VU. On the bottom inside of the plate it says No 1. UN PECHEUR CAPTURANT UN BROCHET DE 25 LIVRES AU PONT DES ARTS. I have no clue what I just typed but that is what it says? This plate is old so there is crazing on the front and the back. As part of the design there are some indented spaces around the plate ... moreand on the spaces that are indented there is more white showing around the edge but I guess this is from age? There is a little bit of tan spotting around the inner circle of the plate which I guess is due to age also. The back of the plate has a bit of tan spotting also. There is about a 1/2 inch black line on the inner rim of the bottom of the plate. There are 3 little rough spots on the edge of the plate. Originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The measures a diminutive 4" in diameter, with a scalloped rim and deep center well. The center of the plate features a dog sitting eagerly in front of his food bowl. The image is stenciled in bright lime green. Surrounded by a bright cobalt blue stencil pattern consisting of a circus theme with alternating lions and camel figural images around the rim. And comes from Creil and Montereau(B& Cie) This finely painted work depicts the lovers in a wooded glen, with a bird of prey taking the life of a love bird at their feet, and features a border with stylized foliate ogival lappets. It is believed to be a work by or after the German painter, Charles Fuchs(1803-1874) On verso is the black printed banner mark of Creil& Montereau, and on front it is signed"Ch Fuchs" in lower left. Gesso and giltwood frame is original and features exceptional carved details. Frame measures 27.5" tall/wide and 2" deep(69.9 by 69.9 by 5 cm) and the charger measures 19.25" 48.7 cm) across. ... moreThere are no visible cracks. We have not examined the charger out of its frame. It may have restorations including inpainting. A well-listed artist. The Benezit states he was born in Prague in 1803, and studied art at Strasbourg in Alsace, and was known for his portraits and landscapes. He died in Hamburg in 1874. Fuchs is known to have painted decorative porcelain throughout the mid-nineteenth century, and his painted works(including vases, urns, chargers, etc. appear regularly at major auction. The highest known sale price achieved at auction for a work of his painted porcelain is believe to have occurred at Heritage Auctions on September 27, 2011, when lot 86496, a pair of 38 in(96.5 cm) bronze-mounted porcelain vases in the Sevres style, sold for $55,000. Great antique French plates. 8" across, transfer ware with hand painting, each plate is artist signed, one is numbered 5 on front the other has number 7 on back, both incised with letter M plus something else, french writing on back telling story on front. Whimsical exaggerated pictures, one looks like it has a devil in the background with a butterfly net, in the foreground a soldier making advances to a reluctant damsel, second plate looks like a thief with soldiers holding swords coming after him- this is my interpretation. This is a complete set of twelve antique plates marked Creil Et Montereau Terre De Fer France plates. The mark on these plates tells us these were made around the turn of the century. All of these plates are entitled at the top Les Sports and are numbered one through ten. These are transfer ware plates with bright blue decorative borders. They all are 6" in diameter. For the age of these plates- they are all in very good condition- most have crazing. This set is a rare hard to find set. Antique Creil-Montereau Platinum Ground Charger Plate-1878 Rose & Thorns, Birds
We are proud to offer this Antique French Creil- Montereau Decorative Arts Ceramic Charger. Circa 1878. Montereau made English Porcelain since the 1740's. This amazing style of chargers got displayed at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855. By the late 1870's they developed this stunning platinum-ground glaze in combination with natural sceneries and vivid colors. The finely painted image has two birds perched on flowering cacti with delicate blossoms in the background. One bird has a bug in it's beak. This is probably the"Rose& Thorns" pattern( Other patterns included"Lily of the Valleys" Holly's" and"Vines" Charger has a gold rim. Underside is stamped" Montereau B&Cie 37" and has remnants of glued labels on the surface. There is a stress crack that runs within the ... morecharger. It ends without crossing the plate fully. From the lower right edge. The crack runs through the large rose and ends above the bird's eye( the bird with the bug in his beak) Barely visible from above. We've tried to show it in our close-up pictures of the underside of the plate. There is some marring and light scratching around the other bird's beak. Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this lovely antique French faience tin glazed cabinet plate made by the Creil Montereau factories in the mid to late 1800's. This plate is in the"Oriental" style which was very popular from the mid to late 1800's. The background might look white to you on the photos but it has a blue tint to it. It features a tree. A flower and a fence in the oriental style. The scalloped rim has a great decorative border to frame the center scene. Just lovely! It is well marked on the back with the"CM" of Creil Montereau and oddly enough the pattern name is"HOLLANDAIS" It is also marked with"TERRE DE FER" and"J2" It measures 9- 9.25 inches from top to bottom and almost 8.75- 9 inches wide. This is an auction for a pristine Creil et Montereau wall or decorative round plate(rare. Even in France) in their series of Robinson Crusoe. It is number 5 of the series(Robinson apercoit des tortues au bord de la mer) and has seal with original serial handpainted number in back. It is 8" diameter, attachment in the back to hang it. Attachment is removable so you can use as a regular plate to receive your keys or change in entrance or in the middle of table for cream, sauce or else. It has a tiny almost invisible line in the front somewhere, not sure if it is a defect or part of the design. It is so tiny you cannot see in picture or at 20" hanging distance. I am French and vacation in France every summer and bring back clothes or antiques. This specific item belonged to my grandparents and is guaranteed authentic. Two B & C Creil et Montereau "Bal Masque Plates, ca. 1863
Two Antique B& C Depose Creil et Montereau Transferware"Bal Masque" Plates Two fabulous decorative 8" inch plates from the French Creil et Montereau factory. The Creil factory was founded in 1797 and merged with Montereau in 1840. For sale here are the No. 2 and No. 7 plates of the series"Bal Masque" or the Masquerade. The plates are transfer decorated in a green floral design around the border and black engravings of costumed figures in the center. The plates have very subtley scalloped edges. No. 2 reads: Monseigneur Satan Et Son Aide-De-Camp" No. 7 reads: Est-Ce Possible. La Fille A Roland. These plates were gifts purchased in France and still retain their stickers from the antique shop which identifies them as being from 1863. The plates are in overall excellent antique condition. There are no chips or ... morecracks with the exception of a fairly large chip on the rim of the No. 2 plate which has been re-glued. Some of the chip is missing exposing the white underneath but because of its position within the border pattern the chip is barely noticeable. Set of Six(6) French- Antique Creil& Montereau Plates Don Quichotte 19th century This is a splendid set of six(6) French plates made by Creil& Montereau from the 19th century. The plates depict Don Quichotte in various scenes and all have script of the back of each plate. The plates have numbers on the front of the plate under the image. There is also some sort of clover? on the back- impressed into the ceramic mold and maybe letters? I can't make it out. Four of the plates are in good condition with normal crazing for age. Two of the plates have damage. One plate was broken and was repaired(glued back together) One plate has a large chip on the rim.
