J Clementson Ironstone 'Siam' Pattern 9" Plate Blue and White mid 19th c.
This is a very striking plate in it's pattern and proportions. Marked J. Clementson. Ironstone, Siam, the registered diamond mark is from the mid 19th century. It is also stamped with a 5. The size is just a little over 9 inches and is about 1 inch deep. The medium blue pattern in the background is feathery in detail and the scenery is very Indian or Persian in style. The condition is amazing for it's age. There is hardly any utensil wear and I only see two tiny spots of discoloration; one on the edge and one just above the big tree in the middle pictorial. Antique Joseph Clementson "Oriental" Opaque Pearl Red Mulberry 9 1/4" Soup Plate
This is a very rare 9 1/4" soup plate made in England between 1839 and 1864 by Joseph Clementson of Staffordshire. The back stamp reads Opaque Pearl Oriental J. C Warranted Staffordshire. After about 150 years of use it shows some wear: scratches and browning on the back. Edge shows wear to the transfer, and the front has some loss of glaze in the center. Nevertheless, it has no chips or cracks and displays beautifully. Variations of this type of design were used by several mid-19th Century Staffordshire dish makers but the pink mulberry color is rare. Shipping is by USPS. The plate weighs 22 ounces unpacked. I pack very carefully and ship quickly.

Here is a 19th century plate in the Udina pattern. Measures 9" in diameter. Almost deep enough to be used as a bowl, the edge is 1 1/4" high. In very good condition, no chips or cracks, there are some utensil marks and some glaze wear on the edges. Please take the time to read the information that applies to you below. Child’s Transfer Printed Alphabet ABC Advert Plate FOX HUNTING Clementson Brothers Staffordshire England c. 1856 This is little child's ABC transferware plate. Circa 1850. The plate measures just 4 7/8" in diameter with an impressed letter alphabet border and rope twist edge outlined in black. The plate is transfer printed in green. It shows fox hunters on horseback with a team of dogs and a shrewd fox spotted in the distance. Titled FOX HUNTING, the imagery is richly detailed. The central image is surrounded by a banner advertising FRANCIS CLEMENTSON Importer of CHINA GLASS& EARTHENWARE in ST JOHN New Brunswick Canada. The Clementson brothers had various pottery businesses in Hanley in Staffordshire. Brother Francis Clementson moved to New Brunswick in Canada. And family began a new venture as wholesalers of Earthenware, China, ... moreand Glass Dealer and Cigar and General Merchandise. This ABC plate was a 19th century marketing tool made by the family in England and sold in Canada. The piece is unmarked except for an impressed numeral 50 or 56. It dates to the mid-nineteenth century. Plates like this were made as gifts and giveaways for good children and rewards of merit. Used to aid in children's education and moral training, and to encourage their imaginations in the early to mid-19th century. A nice rare plate.the only other known example from the same advertising ABC series plate is shown in the Transferware Collectors Club database. The plate is in overall good condition with a hairline crack seen at 12 o’clock. Over the letter V, and no other chips, cracks or repairs. Generalized patina and light staining on reverse side consistent with prior use. The workmanship is haphazard…not fine china, and not meant to be; it was made for children and probably considered disposable. Blue ponded glaze original to the making. There is a 1/2" hairline crack on the back that is under the glaze. There is a 3/8" split" in the front. There are 3 tiny spots on that back that appear not to have been glazed.
