Sevres 1846 Chateau de StCloud S46 Signed Debrie Portrait Plate – Mm de Lamballe
Here is a beautiful Sevres. Chateau de StCloud, Louis Philippe portrait plate on a scalloped, molded blank. It's marked on the back with the green, oval Sevres mark with S.46. in the center, indicating it was fired in 1846. There are additional Sevres decorator marks on the back, indicating that the plate was decorated in 1846. The plate has a lovely blue outer band along with an extensive gold filigree inside of that. The center of the plate is decorated with a portrait of Madame De Lamballe, better known as Princess Lamballe. She was born Marie-Therese-Louise de Savoie-Carignan in 1749. She was married in 1767 at the age of 18. Her joy was short lived. Her husband died shortly after the marriage and she was one of the victims of the French Revolution, dying in 1792. The plate measures 9 5/8" in diameter and is in excellent condition ... morewith no chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines or repairs. Sevres has long been considered the most elegant of French porcelain. Having enjoyed a long history of ownership and promotion of its products by French royals. King Louis Philippe(1830-1848) ordered vast quantities of Sevres porcelain for the French palaces and for his personally-owned chateaus. Each piece was marked with the Sevres manufacture date(in this instance, 1846) Louis Philippe's personal monogram and date(again, 1846) and finally the inventory mark from which chateau the piece was manufactured(here, the Chateau de St Cloud, a gorgeous palace on the outskirts of Paris that was a victim of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War) These three plates, measuring 8 3/4" across, are of pristine white porcelain with elegant gold borders decorated by sky-blue ribbons interspersed around the rims. 1846 Sevres King Louis Philippe Charger 13" DIA Chateau de Trianon LP Monogram 1846 Sevres bowl from the Chateau de Trianon service. Guaranteed to be authentic from the royal dinner service. Due to the size and shape. This is most likely a very rare piece which is the reason why it was restored. Condition: Was professionally restored in the 1970s by Harry A. Eberhardt& Son of Philadelphia. The top left corner had a crecent shape break which had been repaired with old staples yet was removed and overpainted. Wear to gilt decoration. Repairs, original restoration sticker on underside. I am listing several lots of authentic Louis Phillippe porcelain directly from an American estate where it was assembled in the 1920's through dealers in London. Louis-Philippe was a great patron of the Sèvres factory and among his many orders were commissions for dinner services for each of his official residences. The level of decoration on these pieces is called"Le Service des Princes" and was used by the King and his family in various castles of the crown(Chateau des Tuileries. Chateau des Fontainebleau, Trianon, and private residences in Neuilly, Eu, and Bizy) With the Revolution of 1848 the King was forced to abdicate the throne. Leaving the numerous dinner services bearing his monogram obsolete. These services were dispersed and sold during the 1848 revolution. Many made their way to other porcelain manufacturers in the region where they were redecorated from the mid to late nineteenth century with two cherubs on a cloud. Measurement: about 13" DIA.
