HAND PAINTED ROYAL VIENNA PLATE'Besiegt' Artist Signed O. Dressel Description This auction is for an antique 100% hand painted Austrian"Royal Vienna" style plate. Signed by the artist, O. Dressel. The subject is"Besiegt. which translates to"Defeated. It depicts Venus triumphantly seizing Cupid's arrow, thus disarming love. According to some sources, it is a celebration of the erotic power of Venus. The plate measures 9 1/2" The plate is surrounded by a beautiful deep blue border with hand applied gilding accented with white beads(in one of the photos. The border appears purple; this is due to the flash) The plate is marked on the back with the blue"beehive" or Bindenschild mark under the glaze. And marked with the name of subject, Besiegt" in red lettering and Austria in green lettering ... moreover the glaze. The plate itself is from the German Hutschenreuther factory and is impressed with the number"24. The plate likely dates from the 1893- 1914 time period, probably from the earlier part of that time frame. I guarantee this plate to be 100% authentic. Over 100 years old, and completely hand painted(not a transfer) MEASUREMENTS: 9½" 24.0 cm) CONDITION: The plate is in EXCELLENT condition with NO chips. Cracks, scratches or repairs. The gilding appears to be completely intact with no missing areas or noticeable wear. Any white spots or lines in the photographs are from the flash and are not damage. Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Vienna Dresden German Bride Portrait Plate
Hand painted Dresden plate known as a brides plate. This particular one is mounted in a velvet frame. This is the second one I have had. I am unable to access the back without disturbing the mounting. Amazingly beautiful. This plate is in what I consider excellant condition. The velvet frame a bit worn as seen in picture reflects the age. These plates date from approximately 1890. This is revealed from my limited research.

Royal Vienna portrait plate. Hand painted oil on porcelain. This plate has the Wagner signature on front. On back is the blue beehive. Under the center star is the word Clairon. Numbered on the rim is 4572/ 448. 93a I believe the subject on front may be Comtesse du Barry Dec: 448 Depose Plate is 9 3/4" wide. Lovely woman with blue eyes, in pearls and a gold braided decolletage. Plate itself is a work of art. Raised applied gold and blues and grays and black. Plate is in excellent antique condition from a grand daughter of a well known RI family. In the fourth picture you can see a small scratch along her neck and down onto her chest. Not too noticeable but can be repaired. This plate is so ornate; the painting is exquisite. Very reasonably priced. Plate will be double boxed and insured.

Antique Porcelain Portrait Plate Royal Vienna Bavaria Hutschenreuther Signed
Antique porcelain portrait plate from the Hutschenreuther company of Hohenberg of Bavaria. Germany, circa late 1800s. 9 9/16" wide, signed P. Porges(5th and 6th photos) lower right in the water below the boats prow. Titled on the back(8th photo) Kuss der Wellen" Kiss the Wave) which I believe is referring to a sailors love of the sea is as it is to a woman. Exquisite expression of the subject in a somewhat Greco-Roman style, the young sailor bent over the gunwale of his boat in an embrace with one of the two maidens in the surf. Very well executed heavy gold decoration at edge of subject and plate brim with the outer background color a near cobalt but with a slight gray hue. A note here, the terms Royal Vienna and Royal Bavarian are somewhat loosely used due to the common use of the beehive mark(8th photo) among German, Bavarian ... moreand Austrian ceramists of the day. On the back the is the period Hutschenreuther impressed mark of a crown over a shield, the shield enclosing a C M upper and HR lower(last photo, sorry about the clarity but these are hard to show) Also, on the back is the number 1584(9th photo) Now to the frame(2nd and 7th photos) When I got this piece about 20 years ago I couldn't find a frame that I liked, ended up using a heavy composite body for cheap wall clock, not an easy adaption. 13 3/4" wide, 2" deep, sturdy and heavy, if it doesn't suit you contact me for a less expensive shipping cost(lighter and smaller package) plus I will do a $5.00 discount for my savings in packaging. If you do want the frame just pay as invoiced. Condition is no chips or cracks, very slight wear at the outermost of the gold decoration of the edge(top of piece in photo 4 is the heaviest wear) overall excellent condition. Insurance is on my dime for US bidders.
