For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. When opened the desk has pencil or pen rack at the top and a stop at the bottom of the desk top. In front of the desk top is a document We are not sure what this was made for, whether a school, the military, or even a plein air artist's desk. The size makes us think this was made for a child, not a full grown adult. So we are leaning towards a portable school desk, maybe a military school. When it folds all the way up there are two canvas straps, so you can sling it over your shoulder like a backpack and carry it to its next locataion. When it is set up it measures approx. 30" from the front of the desk to the back of the chair. The top of the desk is 25 1/2" high, the back of the chair is 23 1/2" high, the seat of the chair is 11 3/4" high and it is 19 1/2" across. The fittings are all iron with flat head screws. It has a leather stay on either side to keep it together. Overall in great condition, we see two screws loose under the desk top. Superb patina. Information on This Item This is a classic Victorian Walnut Secretary. Circa 1870. The carved details are excellent, and the smaller size allows you to comfortably place it in smaller spaces and lower ceilings. It measures 40 1/2" wide at the body and 42 1/2" at the crown x 21 1/2" deep and stands 83" tall. It moves in 2 pieces for ease of movement. Antique French Rococo Style Dressing Table/Vanity with Beveled Mirror C1885
This high quality antique French Rococo dressing table is made of walnut which is in superb condition. The beveled mirror and frame are in excellent condition. There are a full width drawer to the front and two small drawers on either side of the mirror frame. There are a few small signs of its age on the table top that are shown in the photos. It is in strong and sturdy condition and the hand carving is not chipped or damaged. It measures 35" wide. 22" deep, 28 1/2" high from floor to table top, and 59 1/2" from the floor to the top of the crest. Beautiful desk owned by my maternal 2nd great grandmother in England. It is constructed using veneered wood with decorative metal inlays. The box opens into a sloped surface for writing. Inside. There are compartments for pens and ink bottles(two with metal caps included) Two large compartments. Accessed by lifting the interior panels, can be used to store bigger items like paper. Inside there is a secret compartment that can be opened by lifting one of the dividers in the storage tray. When the divider is lifted. The cover to the secret compartment springs open, revealing three small drawers. When closed. The box can be locked with the included key. From the included note. 1890'S Double Sided Lady's Decorative Writing Desk Hand Carved Quarter Sawn Oak
Congratulations! You are bidding on a gorgeous 1890's Double Sided False Front Victorian Lady's Decorative Writing Desk with chair. The Desk is solid quarter sawn Oak with hand carved columns on the corners and leg opening. Hand carved"rope" decorative edge on the top and highly carved decorative legs with wooden ball and claw feet. The desk has all the original pulls. The contruction is of solid oak, dove-tailed corners on all the drawers. One of the drawers has had the bottom replaced with slats of wood(see pics) otherwise each drawer bottom is constructed of one piece of wood. Also, there is a split in the wood of the top of the desk. The split is approximately 1mm in width(very small) and I could not get it to show up on pictures accurately. The desk has been lovingly restored using an oak stain and a polyeurothane sating ... morefinish so that it will be hardy enough to stand up to daily use. As mentioned above the desk is double sided with a false front that draws attention to the unique hand-carved details of this beautiful piece. Very unusual carved desk with drawers and storage. The wood appears to be dark stained Walnut. The desk is 25 inches wide. 11 1/2 inches deep and 12 1/2 inches tall. The piece was made in the late 1800's and would be ideal for a computer table or as an office cabinet to store important data. There are three 7 inch wide drawers on the left side with a full 22 inch wide top drawer. On the right side is a 7 x 7 door to a storage area. Under this is another 7 inch wide drawer. The center opening is partitioned to take stationary and accessories. Really nice, usable old piece. It is obvious the desk has been used a lot through the years. Antique Quartersawn Oak Desk w/Drawers VERY UNUSUAL!
Here you are bidding on an"Antique Quartersawn Oak Desk" This is quite an unusual but attractive looking desk. It has six drawers with oak handles. The drawers each have flat skeleton keyholes(one is missing) and FOUR of the drawers have small brass and black plates on them with numbers. The desk has paneled sides and front and metal bottoms around the legs. The metal bottoms have a L shape as to screw the desk legs in place to the floor. I'm surmising this was a factory desk of sorts or a business place desk. Not really sure. The desk top has two ink well holes on it. It is a very sturdy desk and its integrity is in place. There are some intials carved here and there and some markings(see pictures)0n it There are some markings and ink stains inside the drawers as well. All in all it actually adds to its look without diminishing ... moreits appearance in general. As you can see from the pictures its really a sweet looking item and quite different. I have never seen a roll top desk quite like this one. It might have been custom made for use in a office. It is all original, in obvious need of refinishing, unless you prefer the original condition, albeit stains, scratches, etc. typical of piece of this age. There is a large roll up door on left with compartments and one drawer, the board pulls out allowing leg room to work at desk, it seems a big short, but if you measure to top of pull out board it measures 25" high, appears to be ample room for your legs. Overall dimensions of the desk are 45" wide by 31" deep by 44" tall. The right side has small roll up door with compartments for files, note the name"Dearborn" stamped on surface. 12 x 8.5 x 5 inch leather covered Victorian(circa 1860) writing box. Original key(working) and a cobalt ink container included. Nicely aged wood interior& brass hinges. This antique roll top desk has been in the family for thelast 40 years. It was refinished when originally purchased. The date isestimated based on the drawer construction using a spoon carving. 1850s Renaissance and Rococo Mahogany Desk
This desk is from a Baltimore estate where the desk descended from a conductor for one of the rail companies who said the desk had a New Orleans connection. In my estimation it was made between 1850 and 1860 and is sort of a hybrid of Rococo ornament and Renaissance solidity. The case. Pedestal drawer fronts, and fall fronts are"plum pudding" mahogany, the upper tier of drawers and cubbies are curly maple fronts trimmed out with rosewood. The lower pull out desk is outfitted with more maple fronted drawers and a central cubby, trimmed out in rosewood, with scroll sawn side pieces in rosewood. All of the drawers have handcut dovetails and the secondary wood appears to be mahogany or walnut. The lack of poplar or pine as a secondary wood may indicate the work of a French cabinet maker. The finish on the fall front drawers/cubbies and the pull out desk section is orginal, the outside case and pedestal drawer fronts have been refinished. The desk cabinetry is finished all the way around and there is a back panel between the pedestals of the kneehole that finishes it off. 27" deep. 52" wide, and 55" high to the top of the foliated gallery. Antique writing desk secretary 1800's Please read provenance.
This rare and ornately beautiful writing desk was discovered at the estate sale of the heirs of Mrs. Theodore Peterson of Boston. The desk came with a handwritten history of the desk. Said to have been bought by Mrs Peterson in England sometime in the 1800's. Mrs. Peterson is said to be the mother of civil war officer Homer Black's wife. Eugenie Peterson. Mrs. Peterson died in Harrisburg in 1924 according to the timeline document. The estate sale conductors claimed that the desk had hand written letters from civil war officer Black in it but they were removed by the family to be kept in the family. I have done no personal research to support the letter's claim and thus do not guarantee the claim of the letter or the estate sale conductor's story but I will include the letter that came with it. The condition is amazing considering ... moreits age. The drawer pulls are missing. The leather top is worn out and separated at the seam, the top handle is missing, there is some damage where the pull or possibly a latch was originally, there is missing veneer on the right side of the top. See pics. Despite all this, the dovetail joints are tight, the hinges are set in place and the only odor it emits is that of wood. No smoke or mildew, just good old wood smell. I will carefully pack and ship to the lower 48 for $18.00 and I will ship to other locations at a calculated rate depending on country or location.

Surrounded by ¾ inch brass design Hanging brass cascade design from tower Three hand painted drawers below tower Brass decorated inlaid/imbedded on each of the sides of the desk& around tower drawers Roll top up reveals three additional drawers and back indented compartments Hand painted facing on front cover: Hand painted cherubs and portrait of a young woman Front cover opens down showing leather within the wood Below the front cover is another hand painted drawer which opens in one piece using handles on either side. There is a lock in the middle. Each leg is carved with same design and the top and bottoms of legs have gold-brass tips to protect the wood I purchased from an antique dealer. Measurements: 41 inches tall 32 inches wide 19 1/2 inches deep pull out writing surface 27 3/4 inches wide by 15 3/4 inches deep and 29 inches high to the floor. approximate weight of this desk is 75 lbs. This 19th century cylinderoll desk is solid and tight and has the locks on the drawers intact but we do not have they key. The lock is missing on the roll up desk portion. This RollTop Desk(47hx32dx54w) has three major moving parts aside from the six side drawers and four inside birds-eye faced drawers. The first moving part is the Facing which rolls back. The second is the desktop which rolls out to reveal 4 more birds-eye detailed drawer facings(facing only and not actual drawers) The third is a writing platform embedded into the desktop which can be propped up as shown in one of the pictures. None of the locks work- as I have none of the keys to test them. There are imperfections in the form of scratches and in one area(top tight as shown in one of the pictures) where a portion.About 1 to 1.5 inch square, of the wood facing is missing.

Henry Stern is world renown for his antique shops in the French Quarter and was one of the biggest collectors/dealers of his time. This lap desk is in as-found condition with the original tag(pictured) The leather has some glue residue on it from the previous owner. for auction is a very rare model signed grand rapids desk company roll top desk with a bookcase on top. i have a 20 years book with one identical to this listed in it. it was valued at 2800 osver 20 years ago. anyway. This is a wonderful desk, great quartersawn flake all thru all the boards. great construction and quite heavy for its size. it has too many features to mention, but hopefully the pictures will bring them out. the desk portion is 28 inches deep, 31 tall, and 40 inches wide. it has nicely form doors with great carving on the fronts, the one on the left opens to expose three small drawers, the one on the right opens to nicely scalloped dividers. the knee hole of the desk is rounder out at the back and is nicely paneled on either side. the roll top is 11 inches tall, 37 wide, and 25.25 deep and has a nice set of cubbies with a pull ... moreout drawer and pencil holders etc. the roll top rolls like butter and has the grand rapids desk company brass name plate over the lock of which i do not have a key. i have a key blank for it and can make a key if i get time. the top bookcase portion sits in a recess of the top of the roll top and is 37 inches wide, 10.75 deep, and 30.5 inches tall including the crown board. it retains the original wavy glass, lock, quartersawn oak fancy dividers for the top of the glass and has one shelf which can be adjusted to your liking as there are additional holes in both side of the cabinet to place the shelf holder pins. the entire unit is nicely paneled and finished all the way around so it can be placed anywhere in a room and will look nice, it is not necessary to place against a wall. the unit is three portion which come apart with ease. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. A very fine and probably one of a kind antique American R.J. Horner highly carved mahogany full standing winged griffins with tails Ca. 1890's. This a rare large oval solid mahogany top which measures 59" inches long. It also has four original draws two in the center one on each side and two on each end of the oval top.The only one I have seen before. This desk is in very good to excellent condition for its age.All of the original wings are present none have been broken or repaired. Note in one photo you see the oval top lip on one end its up a bit off the apron just missing a couple screws forgot to screw it down they are in the draw. Most of the ones I can find are the number 2& 3. In the"School Journal" Atlanta. Ga 1895, there is a advertizement for the number 2, which leads me to believe this Desk pre-dates 1895, possibly as early as 1884. This is a assumption on my part. I have not tried to clean desk yet and it is somewhat dirty right now. I will add photo's cleaned up when done. This would be a great piece to take back to original condition if desired. The desk dates to the early 1820’s and retains most of the red wash paint over cherry wood. She has a beautiful pierced scalloped bottom apron standing on Country Sheraton legs below 3 drawers. The large top drops down to reveal a period custom interior that is all original to the piece as this piece has been in storage for the past 40 years or so. At one point the leather straps supported the lid but as you can see by the photos. Both of those are dried up and can no longer be used but can easily be replaced. She has the original 2 large backboards and I guarantee that this is the original red wash finish. The woodwork and carvings on this one are just amazing. The back topper and finials are still on this one and look original. There is a piece of wood inside the desk that props the desk top open when need to be in it for things. I see no pieces of wood missing on this great desk with exception of piece where lock to desk was in top. The inside of the desk has a nice light colored exposed wood to it. There are two small drawers in here. Plus three cubby holes to put things in. There is also the handle that holds that top up while removing items from inside. On the side, there is a door that matches the woodwork on the other side. When opened, there are four pull out drawers ... moreto store your items in. Hinges on top and side doors are all in great shape. Only issues I see to report are that the locks for the desk and side drawers are not there. Some wood missing by where the lock got taken out in the top section, ink stains inside desk and the felt on top needs to be replaced with felt or better yet do it in leather.
