It has burl walnut panels coming down both sides, heavy crown molded top and a crest with big ball finials on each end. It has a commode base with three drawers and a door. The only thing I don’t like about this cylinder desk is that the finish is light, similar to a cherry, but it is walnut wood. It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. Tall Antique Victorian Oak Cylinder Desk Carved Secretary Glass Front Shelves
Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. The brass escutcheons, while quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks. Each side has developed a separation in the mahogany as part of the wood's natural aging process; these age separations are purely cosmetic and don't affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. The fall has also become uneven over the years and has sustained some wear to the corners but remains, like the rest of this piece, very sturdy. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks and the back feet were also replaced during the restoration. Overall this antique bureau remains in very good condition and would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection! The large Secretary Desk Bookcase has a half round mirror on the left top side over the desk area and the right top side has a double brass finial and rod gallery over the bookcase area. Everything is completely original except for the mirror which was broken has been replaced. There is a small wood professional repair to the bottom left corner of the drop front lid but that is minor and matches the grain and not noticeable. It has been completely refinished to restore its original Golden Oak finish and ready for your beautiful ... morehome. For sale is an antique Victorian style secretary desk. This desk is from the late 1800's and has been partially restored at some point. It appears to have some newer brass finished handles and lock bezels. There are some very unique carvings along the top spindles and on the drop down leaf. There is a key for the desk lock. But it does not appear to work the lock. The wood appears to be solid cherry. The mirror has been replaced and the shelves are glass(does not appear to be original) The rear of the cabinet seems to have been replaced and was painted. Welcome! I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique Victorian black walnut slant front secretary circa 1870. This piece was recently picked from an old NH home. It is made of solid black walnut and retains an original finish. The lid and doors have nice burl panels and rosettes. No breaks, but the some veneer cracked on left front(see photos) It has a nice interior with lots of cubby holes and a few drawers. One of the original wavey glasses is broken in bookcase top. The bookcase top measures"deep and has 4 adjustable shelves.This is a two piece secretary and stands 93" tall, is 49" wide and 19" deep. Adjustable shelves for books or displaying glassware. This top part of the cabinet is removeable. The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. The fall front provides a large writing surface. The desk portion sits over a full width single drawer with two half width drawers and a cupboard base w/ door underneath. All drawer fronts have applied rectangular panels with walnut burl veneer covering the entire panels. Antique Victorian walnut secretary desk. In good condition with a few repairs. The drawer bottom has been replaced with plywood on the bottom drawer. Two small interior desk drawers have small round nails, some interior scratches, hinges have been moved on the drop front desk lid, some missing burl veneer and splits on bottom corners of drop front lid, some missing burl veneer on bottom right, a small piece of wood missing on bottom left. The Victorian secretary is all walnut with burl walnut highlights. Incised design on drop front lid, original wavy glass, chamfered panels on interior of bottom doors, original chamfered panels for secretary back. The secretary measures 79" high, 48" wide, and 18" deep. This a very nice quality piece of early Victorian furniture worthy of repair. And priced reasonably. Incredible find.beautiful old Plantation Desk top. In lovely condition. Not abused, from a non-smoking home. Usually the only the bottom part of the plantation desks survive. But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. An age-appropriate pull would be wood. So it should be easy to replace. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. Victorian cylinder or barrel roll- top secretary desk and bookcase - 1800's
Antique high top desk/bookcase. The top and bottom come apart at base of glass door book case. This is a warm- toned walnut wood with burled walnut panels. My parents purchsed this as an antique in the 1950's from previous elderly owners- not antique store. They did not replace any of the hardware or the glass during the time they owned it and I believe these to be the original. But have no way of telling- glass has tiny bubbles, but I don't see a wave. The desk appears to be in good condition. The top of the desk pulls out for a writing surface. The writing surface is rough on top and some of the drawers have ink stains. as mentioned- this item has pretty much been left in original state. This is a very attractive and interesting piece. This is a Victorian burl walnut butler’s secretary desk. Purchased from a local estate, this gorgeous solid black ... morewalnut butler’s bookcase desk is in original condition. All we did was polish it up, and some minor wear shows here and there in the finish, but it adds charm and character. We did replace the felt on the desk because it was in rough condition. This is called a butler’s desk because back in the old days, the butler was an important person in the household. He took care of the house, paid bills, and did all the food shopping. He would get the groceries, and he would make the list on this desk. It was also used as a dish cupboard in the dining room. This one has lots of burl on it, lots of rosettes, burl trim all over, and racetrack moldings on the doors, which retain their original brass hardware. The beautiful solid black walnut case has a carved crest on top, which is normally missing on these pieces. There is truly burl all over this piece: on the top, the face of the bookcase/china closet, rosettes and buttons. The handles and burl walnut on the drop down lid are unbelievable. This secretary was built with Old World craftsmanship. This antique desk stands 48" height x 28.5" width x 14" depth. The original glossy finish has been revarnished over the years and is very well preserved with enough wear for warm antique patina. There are stains. Mars at the edges, shrinkage separations from age and ink stains for character. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The drop front key is a handle only, the lock does not work. Inside are cubicles and small drawers. A separate piece for easier moving. The bookcase has a working lock. A wonderful example of the Eastlake style. This piece is estimated to have been produced around 1890, toward the end of the Victorian era of design. The simplicity of design of this splendid piece is more in the lightly adorned style that Eastlake preferred. Much of his work was interpreted with more embellishment. Generally disdained by the influential designer. This example in finished in butternut glaze on solid cherry wood. Details such as the unique drawer facing dovetailing are common to the designs of Eastlake. The dimensions of this item are 51 inches high. 29 1/2 inches wide at the top and 15 1/4 inches deep with the desk panel folded up into the unit.
